Canadian PM Martin will reject missile defence
|
This comes as a total suprise to me.
I thought that 100% Martin would sign on. I thought for sure he'd buckle under the pressure of the US. Apparently he buckles under pressure from Newfoundland about oil revenues, but not to the US. oOo: Either way Martin is another lame duck. It only took him 8 months to make up his mind. Do the research and make a decision. Then make that decision public. If you really don't know what to do, call a referrendum. Or look at the polls that showed the majority opposed the thing. It'll be interesting to see the fallout of this decision if it is true. How will the US take it? How will it effect NORAD and how will it effect the relationship between the two countries? http://www.cbc.ca/clips/rm-lo/sorensen_mckenna050222.rm |
i thought our relationship was comming back together. this is going to weigh it down more. annoy:

lo0l, no one cares. any of this being put on american media?
|
Its only an issue in Canada. The US government doesn't even care let alone the US media. They wanted us onboard, but now that were not, it doesn't change anything for them.

from what i understand the US said they will launch missles over/through Canadian airspace whether we're on board or not...
|
That's what Cellucci said, ya. He didn't seem impressed.

yeah, exactly, i don't have a problem with this, put missle launchers all over the North, there's nothing else up there anyway...

We just don't give moral support to a missle defence program...we still are on board for helping track them and shit.

Fallout:
http://www.reuters.ca/locales/c_newsArt ... ID=7778600 I was also watching CBC and they said Martin called Bush last Thursday to talk about the decision and Bush hasn't called him back yet. |
Bush feels Canada isn't valueble in any way to America. if it could somehow benefit him to invade us I am sure he would. Did Clinton not have more realtions/ continous contact with Chrtien, then Bush has with Martin ?
|
Clinton is different. Everyone got a long with him. I think Clinton and Chretien still golf together.
Also I Bush has been in Europe for a while. I don't know if hes back or not, but maybe thats why he hasn't called back. And, of course Canada is valuable to the US. If canada agreed to missile defence, the US can say, look, Canada signed on and everyone likes canada. So if they approve of it, it must be fine. And that works for any situation. If the US can get canada on board any of their projects, it pretty much legitimizes it. The US is going their own way. The US has also given Canada many opportunities to be "valuable" and productive, but we keep turing them down. SO I don't blame them for getting this way. Their going in a totally different direction than Canada is. |
