02-25-2005 05:34 PM

lol this is just ridiculous..then again, if you bought one now, you wouldnt need a new one for another 5 years.

no..you wouldnt NEED one for a few years, but yes in probably 8-12 months there will be a new one out. but shit, i have the x800 xt, i wont NEED to get a new one for at LEAST 3 years.

Doctor Duffy 02-25-2005 06:22 PM

How do you guys have so much money for this stuff? Dont any of you realize it doesnt makea noticable difference, at the rate you guys are buying video cards? I mean, stepping up from a GeForce 3 to a newer one will give you a dramatic increase, but jeeze, you guys already think its time to upgrade your 9700's. THEY'RE FINE. You will see a minimal difference, like maybe dust particles, and that for sure is not worth the extra $400. Seems everyones desperate to get the highest FPS..to get 20 FPS instead of 17.

Sorry, just my little rant.

eek:

Try doom 3 on a 9700 with max settings then try it on an x800xt-pe with max settings, i went from a 9500pro to an x800 and there was a shitload of difference. I prefer to play games (sp usually) with everything cranked way up, these days you can get games and crank them up to their max out of the box, a few years ago that wasn't the case.

getting 20fps would suck. yeah like gerv said, good luck running doom 3 on the settings i use on a 9700.

holy jebus when is that bad larry coming out?

Short Hand 02-25-2005 08:56 PM

SUpposedly doom 3 can only show its full glory with a 512 card. So there will be a bit of huss over this.

Jesus, man, I use a GeForce FX 5200 and can run at High on 800x600. (Though, with a little tweaking to the .main) and I never have any slow-down, stutter...in fact, I was just sooo surprised it actually ran on my system. Well, Doom 3 is one of those friendlier-hardware games...ah, nevermind, im gonna go check out another topic.

No, it will work on Ultra settings on any of the highend 256MB cards. 6800GT and up can do it well. I get a slight pause before entering a room, but the frame rates are nice and stable.

geRV 02-26-2005 07:15 AM

There are some areas where ultra don't work properly, ive seen screens that look ok but some rooms have missing textures because of the card not having enough ram to display them, usually theyre pretty small though. Ultra qualitys more or less pointless anyway, the difference between high and ultra isn't noticable at all.

Gonzo 02-26-2005 08:10 AM

when is this thing coming out!!!

geRV 02-26-2005 08:15 AM

Due "soon" for pci-e, then a further wait for the agp version.

Just wondering, but how di you guys go from AGP to PCIE...did you replace EVERYTHING or just the mobo?

Akuma 02-26-2005 12:05 PM

Depends if you have a CPU that works with the current PCIe motherboards. Meaning socket 939 for AMD or LGA775 for Intel.

99.687% of people will have to replace almost everything.

i have a regular pci motherboard, can i use this card then?

geRV 02-26-2005 12:14 PM

Nope need a pci express motherboard, probably better waiting till the agp version of it appears.

And like akuma said unless you have an amd 64 (939) or an lga-775 pentium 4 you're gonna have to upgrade your cpu as well, ddr-1 still works on most of them but some accept ddr-2 ram only.

exactly, your running it on 800x600. i dotn know exactly what res im at, and i cant check becasue i dont have the cd right now, but i think its 2nd to highest or highest and i get around 50-70fps if i can remember correctly and that is with AA and AF turned on max. i highly doubt you could run that.

geRV 02-26-2005 02:45 PM

Basically you may be able to get a good framerate on a 5200 but the higher end cards are a lot better at sustaining that rate when a lot of action is going on along with having antialiasing and anisotropic filtering enabled. For multiplayer sustaining a high fps is part and parcel of doijng well, if your fps is gonna bomb to like 15 or 20 from 60 then aiming etc will be a lot more sluggish.

Jonsey_ 02-26-2005 03:52 PM

is there a great speed and quality difference between, pcie and agp?

Akuma 02-26-2005 03:55 PM

Not right now.

lasagna 02-26-2005 04:00 PM

i seriously dont understand half the things you guys have just said eek:

Doctor Duffy 02-26-2005 04:09 PM

I dont care that much, Im always atleast years behind the latest tech. The next card I think I'll get is a GeForce FX 5600...

....thats because I only have PCI slots.

Innoxx 02-26-2005 04:11 PM

Roflmao. I used that for a long time, just to play MOHAA with. Jeeze, man, why do you still have it? Especially when you can go pick up something even remotely good, like a Radeon 9000, for just $30 bucks.

lasagna 02-26-2005 04:14 PM

whoa a radeon 900 is only 30 bucks, i only have a 7500 loney:
