Do you think that Nvidia's use of multiple GPU's could be attempting to cover a proformance gap? It just seems that Nvidia seems to be pushing the dual GPU options rather hard. Is it a strive for the top of the game again, or is it an attempt to cover some sort of failings?

A little bit from column A, a little bit from column B...

Just bragging rights since they have it out and ati don't. Ati's been doing that kind of setup long before nvidia but not for mainstream customers, was always intended for rendering stations etc.

I like the fact they can basically get 2 cards in one though, multiple boards is something id rather not bother with. For one theyre too power hungry, big difference in power terms powering 2 cores instead of 2 complete boards. Just have to wait and see what ati do with their "multi vpu" setup.

id get one. Especially seeing how my computer is suck ass now.

Graphics cards only as good as the rest of your system, hexus.net done a review on a dual 6800ultra sli, not even the fastest current amd cpu could feed them quick enough to get all the performance out of them.

Id be suprised if they tried to market it, that wouldn't fit in the majority of pc cases.

Need a mobo that supports quad-processors!! ..but I am told they are terrible for gaming. What makes them so "bad" for gaming? oOo:

eek:

Why would you needa a quad cpu mainboard for an sli setup? Not like it'll drive the graphics cards any faster unless a games coded to take advantage of dual cpu's or whatever one will just sit there doing nothing.

As for gaming, dual\quad cpu boards are usually intended for servers so they usually dont have a lot of overclocking options, some do but a lot don't.

The main reason that dual/quad CPUs aren't used for gaming is because they don't do anything. No games take advantage of dual cpus (or hyperthreading). So it's a massive waste of money if you are just using it for gaming.

geRV 03-11-2005 04:46 PM

From what i know quake 3 takes advantage of smp, not saying much though, a game thats near 6 years old. oOo:

Dunno whos gonna buy that kinda card, 2 6800 ultras in sli take up a lot less space..for that matter a voodoo 5 6000 would take up a lot less space and it had 4 much larger vsa chips on it. eek:
