Build me a system.
Over the summer I plan on getting a job to pay for a new computer. My Gateway upstairs isnt cutting it anymore and I need something new. So to get some ideas I want you guys to build me a system. Just tell me what would be the best for the tasks at hand and i will put it toghether. I plan on doing mainly Gaming, Mapping, porn, and any other video effects. My budget is about 2000-4000 bucks. beer:
and thanks in advance. |
get a 20gig ipod since you're a loyal Apple user. Do all of your solitaire gaming on it.

AMD64 CPU
Gigabit Motherboard Antec PS + Case (Sonata) High-end video card SB Audigy2 1GB Corsair RAM (LL) SATA drives DL DVD -/+ R Floppy (Good old tech tool) If you get the best of everything in there, it can run ~1800$, MAX. Anything more and you're getting the royal screw job... |

shit man with a 2k - 4 k budget i would get more than 1 gb ram... more like 2 MSI or ASUS mboard... with SLI compatable... 6800 ultra 480 watts + for power supply |
I'll put one together for you after work. happy:
|
I'm pretty sure you will have to aquire a different Windows XP as the Gateway disk should only work to restore your Gateway.
|
If you actually registered your Windows XP (I assume) with the previous PC, you
need a new copy. Just do like 90% of PC users and download it. happy: |
im thinking about getting one of these :

ed: geez, in that case just go to newegg.com and find the most expensive stuff available, you'll still prolly fall under $4000. |

Just curious, but how many of you consider monitors an important part of buying a new computer? - Or do you just find a shitty one and it? oOo: eek: |
Depends on the res you want, more expensive = higher res or lcd. Im using a 17" lcd and it does what i want of it, didn't cost a bomb either.
|
I got a 19" flat screen that freakin rocks, and it was like $300 (us) after some $50 rebate thingy.

What do you suggest for a CPU cooling solution since you linked to an OEM part. Not a "retail" which would have stock cooling.
Edit. [url:92d97]http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-514&depa=1[/url:92d97] $2 more for retail. |
Oh yeah... XP-90... too lazy to link.

I haven't figured out what the point is of having two of those... eek:[/quote:5af56] hmmm lets see... think of this... actually ... it is this. but ne ways one card supports the left side and the other supports the right side for unbelievable frame rate.... its worth it if you have the money... with your computer you must of gotten it right? |

[quote=Himmler]

then his set up must be wrong cause you can almost get 80 percent more frame rate with dual.... |

That RAM I linked it some of the best stuff out there. BH-5 chips that are already clocked at 250mhz at 2-2-2-8 timings. I don't know why he wouldn't overclock. Change 2 things in BIOS and your done. Maybe he just wasn't up-to-date on current tech and wanted to know what the best was. As for the video cards, you can substitute anything you want in there. I'd take dual 6800GTs over a X850XT anyday. |
Woulda been just better linking to the gaming benchmarks, sli doesn't always make game run a load faster, lot of the time it will keep your frame rate more constant rather than churning out 300fps.
|
with the sli in those benchmarks you dont even see a more than a 50% increase dude, why waste $1000 on two ultra caards when one x800xt or one ultra can EASILY do the job? well in the present time anyway...in a year or so sli might be required for some games
