Laptop Processor Question
im going to be buying a lptop for university, and im unsure of centrino vs. p4's. how would a 1.8ghz centrino compare to a 3ghz p4? i havent seen a centrino in the 2ghz range, but numbers dont always mean the same in comparison to other processor speeds, i.e. amd vs intel. i know centrinos have longer lasting battery life, but im more interested in computing power and speed; so centrino or p4?

p4 rock:

Isnt the Centrino just Intel's built-in wireless? Not a processor?
|
id be betting the centrino doesnt get as hot as the p4.

Centrino is just the wireless...
But all Centrinos use Pentium M which kicks a lot of ass. A 1.8ghz PM is roughly equal to a 3.2ghz P4 except the PM uses much less power and runs a lot cooler, which is very important in a laptop. |
AMD on the other hands > * so rock:

get a desktop, you won't regret it

Do Centrinos run cheaper and are they any good for some gaming? oOo:

Yeah the pentium m's are pretty good, they take some influence from the pentium 3 designs. I dunno if a 1.8 would be equal to a 3.2 p4 though, the pentium m's have some trade offs which makes them perform lower in some things than the regular pentium 4 chips.
