PC Fan nightmare on elm st. [pics included]

Ok here is my dilemma, been having extreme temperature issues with my cpu and case [yes, like Stammer in that other thread] and would love some advice on how many fans and where to put them as up until now i thought it was all fine until i saw my CPU temp was.....82!! and case was 40 degrees celcius.

I took pictures to show my case and its hotness. added arrows showing where fans are now.... [sorry for big image size]

Thats the way I would put em. Might also consider changing the GPU-cooler. dance:

Poseidon 08-02-2005 05:46 PM

^ Yup what he said.

I always base my fans on circulation going from front to back. and also top fans blowing out bottom blowing in (based on the principle that heat rises)

mr.miyagi 08-02-2005 05:55 PM

Wow thanks for that +1

I may have found the problem, the grill type front on the bottom has NO FANS so all the heat is going around the middle/top/back, nothing is pushing it from the front.
So i best buy a fan for the front, but where do i plug the fan into?
would i basically be putting it into those 3-4 white plastic prong things on the m'board?

just wondering, how many fans in total you got in your pc case?
cheers

Poseidon 08-02-2005 05:59 PM

the fan should come with a male and female molex. So you always have a spare molex connector dangling somewhere.

My PC has 4 case fans

Theres diff. types of connectors; thos that goes onto the mobo, and those that goes onto the PSU.

Ive got 2 80mm's in the case, 1 80mm on the cpu, 1 80mm on the gpu and one 120mm in teh PSU. Got room for two more aswell, but havent been arsed to get new ones.
Current temp:
CPU = 43C
Mobo = 23C

Stammer 08-02-2005 06:03 PM

Yup what he said, thats how mine is setup...sort of.

I hear those acrylic cases are shitty. oOo:

Snipes, dont lock a thread just becuase the problem is solved. People might still want to discuss in it.

Miyagi, have you checked the fanpositions, so that you are sure about the sizes?

... So hostile... annoy:

MotoxXx 08-03-2005 06:40 AM

6 80mm case fans (3 inbound, 3 outbound), 2 80mm PSU fans, 1 80mm CPU fan, 1 GPU fan, and 1 fan on the chipset (not sure what size but its very small).

The only really loud fan in my whole system is the CPU fan, and well my Fx5900 had a pretty loud whine during gameplay but it's kinda dead now.. (messed with the bios)

CPU Temp: 20c idle, 32c load.
GPU Temp: 48c idle, 56 load. (56c isnt bad seeing the threshold is 120c)

Akuma 08-03-2005 07:44 AM

Uhh.. ya you definitely might want to get some fans in that case.

The PSU's fan isn't designed to take all the heat out of your system, it's just for the PSU. You need a fan in the back at least. I don't know if there are any in the front of the case, but you should have some there too.

If it's just your CPU that is having heat issues, you should upgrade your heatsink too. That looks pretty puny and the grill looks pretty restirctive.

Nope, and do what Akuma says.

Zalman has some kick ass heatsinks and cooling systems.

I asked since i wasnt sure, too many threads get reopend after months of nothing cuz no one reads the dates, and you know how Zone hates that. So when the problem is solved i lock it. If they need it reopened or what not all they need to do is PM

mr.miyagi 08-04-2005 02:42 PM

just bought 2 80mm case fans. theres a motherboard slot for 1 but not the other.
both fans came with a 3 way wire, 1 slides into mobo, 1 end is a male molex and the other is for the fan.
When ive tried it however it strangely doesn't work, fan only works when i plug it straight into the mobo.

been googling for ages too, no help anywhere..... wallbash:

edit: are there any other sockets i can use apart from my ONLY 2 '3 pin' white sockets [for fans] and the molexes, as i'm out of molexes......

mr.miyagi 08-04-2005 07:42 PM

my cpu fan is constantly on 100% usage, have no ad/spyware on here, hijackthis seemed ok, wonder whats causing this?.......

Sniper101 08-04-2005 07:57 PM

run task manager and see how many things are running under processes

geRV 08-04-2005 08:06 PM

U got the same case as me eek:

Eh, do you mean cpu time or the fan? If its the fan its meant to be on full all the time.

KTOG 08-04-2005 08:17 PM

I couldn't give a shit about my airflow, my computer is a piece.

mr.miyagi 08-05-2005 06:59 AM

Ah yeah sorry for confusion, was my cpu usage, lol not my fan which is always 100%.

ANYWAYS, thanks for all your help guys, I've bought some molex adapters and have successfully applied 2 case fans inside...
Temp is now about 40 cpu, 33 case, which isn't perfect but it'll do me for now.
The main thing that was wrong was that MOTHERBOARD MONITOR WAS WRONG, it was telling me my cpu was 82 degrees C and my case was 50-ish C.........so i checked in the BIOS and got those lower readings. So in future check your temps the bios way.

Have fixed the 100% cpu usage too, just disabled the startup programs in msconfig and used a process of elimination in terms of programs running, i seemed to have fixed it.

Cheers! beer:
