clotting blood

does anyone know anything to take to clot blood? like for bloody noses.

Coleman 08-08-2005 03:04 PM

i have had my share of bloody noses. With my large ass nose, you'd be suprised about how much blood can flow from it ha. I had this stuff that I got at CVS. You dab it on a tissue and stick it up our nose and within a few minutes, the blood flow would be halted. I'll see if I can find the bottle somewhere.

Tripper 08-08-2005 03:04 PM

oOo:

I thought blood clots were terribly dangerous?

Zoner 08-08-2005 03:04 PM

Might wanna see a doctor.

In the meantime, tilt your head back and stuff kleenex in your schnoz.

Don't forget nose breathing.

Coleman 08-08-2005 03:16 PM

sometimes if you pinch/put pressure on your nostrils with your index finger and thumb it'll stop the bleeding.

Old Reliable 08-08-2005 03:30 PM

ohh sounds like the common gas-station fist fight stupid:

yup thats the way your supposed to do it. Your not supposed to tilt your head back cause you can choke/drown on your own blood

yep. I just shove some klenex up there and pinch it where the bridge of the nose is. stops most of the bloodflow. I used to get them all the time when I was little. I woke up and my entire pillow was covered in blood and my face and hair was soaked in it. kinda scary when your 8.

find the bridge of your nose and pinch just below it heres a pic
WHILE holding you head back at about 45 degrees. also find someplace dry that will help with the clotting, to humid, like a steaming shower will loosen the clot and cause it to bleed again

I believe it should be holding your head 45 degrees forward (as to stop you from chocking on your own blood. As far as im aware... first aid books have been changed to this.

08-08-2005 05:36 PM

Usually i just snort and hack it all out (like a luggie), it clears my nose right up.

Short Hand 08-08-2005 05:36 PM

45 degree's forward if you are out for the count.

Doctor Duffy 08-08-2005 05:41 PM

I've only had a bloody nose once in my life. Whats with them? Everyone I know get's 'em, but I only happened to get when when I was six, and was running to jump over the bed frame in our backyard my dad was staining, and I tripped and banged up my nose. Never, ever had a sudden bloody-nose.

dr nein 08-08-2005 05:43 PM

I dunno, I seem to get them at random every once in awhile. Maybe sneezing too much or something.

first aid books keep changing back and forth between pinching the bridge of the nose and pinching the nostrils.

I once had a nose bleed in school (6th grade). The nurse told me to pinch the bridge of my nose. It kept bleeding and bleeding. So I went to the hospital in an ambulence. The doctor told me to pinch my nostrils....another told me the bridge. Then they quaterized my nose, but it only worked for 5 years or so and now I get nose bleeds every so often. They're usually caused by dry weather and the inside of the nose cracks up.

sorry to hear that, must have been horrible for you. all this talk of nose bleeds brings back the aweful feeling/taste when i was young and made the mistake of tilting my head back while i had tissue up my nose and i actually ended up...uh, tasting the blood. ICCCCKKCKCKCKC!!! oOo:

I have a ruptured vessel. for 1 week every other few months or so I get tem daily. The vessel just pops under the pressure. they last 8 minutes at most but the are not fun to have. Tilt the head back and pinch where the bone starts.

Sergeant_Scrotum 08-08-2005 10:57 PM

I do believe the official way is to just keep your head level, tilt it back and its going to fill your stomach and you will throw up. Tilt to far forward and it will gush out due to high back pressure. Then apply constant pressure on either of the two places suggested. Just keep it there constantly. If you keep moving it and changing position the platelets will never have time to clot the blood and stop the bleeding.

Sniper101 08-08-2005 11:13 PM

its actually more like 30 degrees, which is just enough to hold most blood vessel there verical so they can clot without running. and youre right, they always keep changing from the bridge to the nostrils. i perfer the bridge since, if done properly, more effective than the nostrils since you have something to pinch the vessels against. but the nostils is a more general one since its easier to do for effectiveness

Jimbo@ 08-12-2005 05:57 AM

Go to the sink and blow your nose as hard as you can. Blow all that blood out.

Bleuachdu 08-12-2005 08:01 AM

Whenever I wake up covered in, presumably my own, blood, the first thing I do is hop on to GF1.com for some friendly conversation and sound medical opinion.
