mk. I dont care if they steal all the food out of a grocery store, but when there is no power, no cable, no satilite, and a shit load of water, I dont see what good a 48 inch plasma screen will do, or 5 cell phones, or diamonds, hell even shoes and new jeans wont do anyhting cause they will only get soaked. Food yes, goods no.

"Meanwhile, actor Sean Penn made his own personal attempt to aid those in New Orleans, but the small boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

The 45-year-old Oscar winner had planned on rescuing stranded children, but an Agence France-Presse report indicates he apparently forgot to plug a hole in the vessel's bottom, which took on water within seconds of its launch.

Asked about his goal in the soaked city, Penn replied: "Whatever I can do to help."

But with the boat loaded with members of his entourage, including his personal photographer, one bystander taunted: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?"

What an Asshat! He didnt give a shit about helping anyone! He just wanted to use the situation as a photo opt!! spank:

You sell that shit and you get money. Alot of these people have nothing at all now. The storm has left them with absolutely nothing. There is lack of support from their own government and they've been sitting there for over a week with nothing, twidling their thumbs. They're obviously gonna go take stuff that is just sitting there. I can't say I wouldn't either.

Ya exactly especially if you steal alot of diamonds and go to another state and sell them and get enough money to start a new life.

Jimmy Paterson 09-06-2005 04:17 PM

ZOMG you mean they need 14 pairs of new shoes? and 10 fishing rods? and a brand new tv when then dont have power?

ninty 09-06-2005 04:19 PM

oOo: oOo:

Talk about out of context.

Dion isn't advocating looting, rather that there are more important things that should be focused on like saving lives. Material goods shouldn't much matter in a situation like this. I guess people need to make up their own mind as to what's more important. Setting aside police to control looting, while people essentially die, or forget the looters and help those that are in need of help. I agree with Dion on this one.

Sell the TV and the shoes. You have money. Now you can spend money on food or anything else required for survival. Hell, shoes are a good thing to have in a drowned city.

Whats wrong with the fishing rods, NO is now an entire lake, might as well make the best of it biggrin:

TodzumPapst 09-06-2005 08:32 PM

It just goes to show you what people are like in NO. When 9/11 happened people came TOGETHER to rebuild, NO was like OH shit Free STUFF LETS GO LOOT THE QUICKIE MART. NO's Population is worthless. There are some good people but not much.

You can't really compare the two. During 9/11 you could still walk a couple of blocks and get a deli sandwich. Let's put all of NYC under ten feet of water and see what happens.

Proteus 09-06-2005 08:39 PM

On one hand looting is obviously bad, but these stores are going to get burned to the ground and plowed over anyways. Who gives a fuck.

I totally disagree with your statement. New York has proven itself time and time again. We've been through 9/11, blackouts, snow storms, hurricanes, countless sport championships, and people here tend to help one another for the most part. We had a complete blackout last summer and people helped others get out of subway tunnels, elevators, and wherever. People were sleeping on the streets and you didn't have mass looting or silly shit like that.

When the Rangers won the cup in '94, the whole world thought NY'ers would riot. Could you imagine their faces as they watched people celebrate in the streets without flipping cars and lighting them on fire? How bout all the Championships the Yankees won recently? You didn't see any rioting either.

So why does NY have a bad rap? Pyro, i can gaurantee you were never here.

A giant storm that floods the city and destroys 50% of it is considerably different to a power blackout.

Although I agree it probably wouldn't happen in NYC, because they'd probably have a decent relief effort within DAYS instead of weeks.
