Preparing for college...
I'm planning on getting a laptop before I head to college but I can't find a place to customize it the way I want it; i/e without all the extra crap.
I want it with an AMD 64 processor, at least 1G RAM, and a nice graphics card. I'll buy an external hard drive because I don't need all my games and music with me and I can cram the internal one with school stuff. I was looking at HP because they have the expansion dock with the internal 160G HD, charging capabilities, and a lot of ports for various media/whatever. And they're one of the few companies I've seen which offer the AMD processor. I'd love to spend under $1500 on the laptop itself. Any help/advice or should I just take out a loan and sell my siblings into slavery? |
who are you

P-Ms are superior to A64 Turions in terms of battery life. They are usually cheaper too. But either are great.
Get a Dell i9300. You can get a good P-M, up to 2GB of RAM, and a Go6800. If that's out of your price range, maybe look at Acer or ABS with 9700s in them. You can probably get one for under $1500. |
battery life isn't too important as long as I have a cable, I can just find an outlet.
I've already looked at dell but I'll check that one out and I'm going to look at an acer too. Alienware made my wallet cry..... |
I'd stay with a desktop for college unless you get some great upgrade-trade-in deal for a laptop. Nobody brings them to class, a few bring them to the library, but they have computers there anyways. Much more economical to get a desktop for colleger IMO

you should be ashamed for ruining that shirt design.

hp's are a good choice as far as being able to customize them w/out all the extra shit. I brought my desktop here and it works pretty well, with a few downfalls, #1 its a btich to lug around biggrin: 2 the internet is as slow as hell here, most ive seen a DL in my room is 56.3K and they FORCE McAfee which couldnt be any more fucking annoying in terms of EVERYTHING about it. so make sure your school doesnt force McAfee, that way you dont buy a $50 1 license 1 year subscription to Norton, which is by FAR better

ive seen that design in your sig somewhere before lostdude, its not from the mix weapons of mass creation is it?
anyway, i recommend a desktop myself, but if you are looking for a laptop anyway, go for a dell or i hear acers are fairly decent for a gamer |

Your laptop should be strictly for work. Thats all I use mine for. My p3 laptop gets nearly 4 hours of battery life.
(use the leftover money you would save on that laptop to build a decent rig for gaming in your dorm.) MObile gaming sucks big balls, I treid it on a classmates mobile 9700...... not fun. even with a mouse. |

Laptops are aweful to play on, even if you have a great mouse. The keyboard layout is just aweful and uncomfortable for gaming. It is so difficult to find the right keys and to use them effectively

laptop keyboards once used to are much better than desktop keyboards, as the smaller size and flatness of the keyboard on laptops respond faster then the huge ass clunky keyboard keys, unless you have a decent keyboard. Also the keys are closer together so makes for quicker use with not stretching needed. And its awful, not aweful. Im getting a powerbook when i get some pay sorted, even with the IBM chipped ones at the end of the range it would be better than the first intel powerbooks at the beginning of that range, plus they seem to last longer than PC notebooks that seem to go out of date as soon as you buy one. |
the reason powerbooks don't go out of date very fast is because you can't do anything on them...
