1st cod 2 review
http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145019&did=1
This is worth looking over as well. [quote:2c1f5]Beauty, but at what cost? So exactly what does it take to get Call of Duty running in your house the way it looks in the screenshots? Here at the office our combination of a 4000+ Athlon 64, 1 GB RAM and a 7800 GTX get the job done maintaining a smooth framerate at 1280x1024. But that can fall off quickly. On a 3200+ Athlon 64 with the same amount of RAM but a plain 6800 no amount of reducing settings would smooth things out, and without the anistropic filtering and high texture detail much of the game's effect was diminished. More troublesome were the technical issues that cropped up on our high-end machine. While it powered through DOD: Source and F.E.A.R. with nary a hiccup, Call of Duty 2 had a nasty habit of dropping to the desktop, and, at times, causing a full stop error complete with the blue screen of death. Typically these signs are indicative of a driver issue, but on such high-end equipment they are troubling nonetheless. [/quote:2c1f5] Remember the demo came with "normal" settings and not hi res textures or anything. IGN review added http://pc.ign.com/articles/661/661230p1.html 6 cd's oOo: And according to ign the performance is better on the retail version, which contradicts the 1up review, then again ign said the same about fear and from what ive seen it still runs like a turd. And possibly the most retarded thing of the lot, in multiplayer your health regenerates like it does in single player. oOo: |

I'll be passing on buying this.

This is disconcerting.
Methinks I'll hold out a week or so before buying it. |

So using grenades to damage the enemies is now rendered pointless, if you don't get a kill right away their health goes back up and theyre unharmed. I say again oOo: |
Quake 4 > CoD 2

btw did you see
"since you can rapidly regenerate health. Yep, as long as you duck behind something for a few seconds, after taking a bullet or three in the face, you'll be just fine. You won't be able to sit on grenades or dive into a nest of angry Germans, but you'll be able to stick and move like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even an MG42 is manageable, as long as you have something solid in between it and you. Hide, pop up, fix, fire, drop back down, repeat ad infinitum. This Wolverine-like feature will be essential in certain high-powered engagements, but I would sooner have health packs or a medic, rather than be able to take hordes of enemies almost single-handedly. It's cool for a while, but then things get a little too easy, once you get the rhythm down. And it's there on all difficulty levels, and in multiplayer." oOo: 13 maps(4 remakes from original cod) No Vehicles DM,TDM,CTF,HQ, S&D modes Its fucking original COD with a boob job. No Thanks |
Although the health regen sucks ass, it will be modded in no time.
I despise the lack of vehicles, for those who don't want them play dm, tdm, etc. ffs. I also think the infamous shotty will be included, which is bearable considering the ppsh is still in the game. I'll pick it up this week for the sp. Then, like an idiot, I'll wait for a year and a half for the ex pack to have vehicles. |
Year and a half for an expansion? More like 5-6 months tops. spank:

Everything looks wet it's fucking annoying to look at.

the only thing i dont like is the health regeneration. but i bet that is fixed in a mod within a week of its launch.

Even though the Health Regeneration is a main concern, the mere fact that the game requires a $500 video card to run optimally is what makes me not want to purchase it.
|
I've never been able to run a game "optimally", so I'm not worried about it. The demo ran fine for me on passable settings, so I'm happy with that.
I know I'm never gonna be able to run anything at gerv-like quality, so I've resigned myself to that fact. |

Hi Gerv rock:

I should have rephrased optimally. That meaning max settings with decent framerate.

Watch out for [BoRo]*iMpAcT* and friends. |
Single players pretty linear to me. Seems to be every mission is shoot germans, take objectives then repel germans from taking it back from you.
Gotta love the 20,000 lines of combat dialogue they said they put in the game, sounds more like they copied 2 sound files both saying "mg42 ahead", and "thats an mg42, copied them 19998 times then stuck them into the sound folder. I must hear those lines used 20 times a mission at least and it got sleeping: after the first 30 uses. The real kicker to me is the game performs like SHITE at high res with any form of antialiasing applied, and id love to know where the fuck the performance is being sucked to. No physics or anything to worry about, game looks "ok" at best not that much of a boost over the older cod imo. Then again it goes without sayin that most likely this is some form of an xbox 360 portover or at the very least has been coded to run better on that so we prtty much get shafted in that respect. |
I'm actually digging the SP missions. I'm playing them at pretty mediocre settings, but I still the game looks great. I guess I'm just not as picky.
The Russian missions were cool, but a little short. The Brits are at least comical with MacGregor, and the US missions are kicked off nicely by Pointe du Hoc. Geting off the rope and advancing is a bit of a bitch! Pretty chaotic stuff. I've only played the MP once and liked it. There are a few too many icons floating around though. Mods will take care of that soon enough, I imagine. |
i liked the sp too .... brit missions kind of sucked dongs but the russian / americans were fun

Thinking of buying COD2
I have COD and CODUO, I also have MOHPA and MOH warchest. I had to upgrade my graphics with a GeForce FX5500oc/256mb PIC card to play MOHPA. I am thinking of purchasing COD2 or should I save my money?
Here is my system: System Manufacturer: eMachines, Inc. T2245 Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.20GHz Memory: 512MB RAM HD 40GB and slave 200GB DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) GeForce FX5500oc/256mb PIC card Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition ,Service Pack 2 Will this machine operate COD2 or will I have to consider more upgrades? If so which would I be better off doing buying the upgrades or a PS2 or Xbox 360? |
You can run COD2 if you turn all the effects off and run in dx7 mode, which basically makes it CoD1.
