take a graphics/web-design class. then share your work. other than that, keep on practicing.

TonyMontana 10-26-2005 04:50 PM

Proteus 10-26-2005 10:29 PM

It really is terrible though.

Forte 10-26-2005 10:39 PM

telling me specefic things that are terrible about it would be a little more helpful.

Tripper 10-27-2005 02:04 AM

For a start:

*Center the text on ALL the buttons.

*Limit your website to no more than 3 main colours. Make sure they match.
(This includes buttons)

*Make sure the banners and headings have anti-aliased text. It looks really ugly without.

*Don't use more than 2 typefaces (a.k.a fonts ....Use one if you can, but ONLY two if you MUST) and make sure those two match. Your current choices could be improved. You should only really need one font because of the lack of text on your site anyway.

*Sort out the borders around the links...Make them all match.

*I'd look into making the general layout look more interesting and less "half-assed." Black and white is really quite boring when it's used like that. Throw in a colour.

*The anti-aliasing throughout really bugs me....

....Fix that and then show us how you go with it... freak:

Poseidon 10-27-2005 07:59 AM

put a table around the whole lot and centre it.

Make it look more appealing - add colours rather than black and white.

Like trip said, try to use only 1 font

You need something at the bottom to finish off the design.

thanks. this is actually very helpful.
I prefer the look of black and white over everything. considering everything on the website will be grayscale, except for those links at the top.

Sniper101 10-27-2005 02:34 PM

what are you using to do the scripting? directly from photoshop? Id recommend using Dreamweaver to do all the finite stuff, like creating the table and centering it. or you could edit the code directly

[code:3529a]<table width="779" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
[/code:3529a]

this is the line you need to edit at the top, copy and paste it if you want, notice i added the align="center"

Also for the color button links at the top, create a second set, grayscale, and create a mouse over, that would fade them into color, that will look better. Use dreamweaver if you can to do the coding or Google for the script to do that, i cant think of what it is, but as far as i know youd edit the CSS file to do so

Forte: the layout is looking better, still needs some work though

Judas 12-05-2005 08:42 PM

not too bad ...

my advice to you is : try to find a site you like and them duplicate it ... itll help you learn how to do what it is you like about the site and then you can apply it to your site however you see fit. im not saying to do exactly what theyve done, chances are you wont anyway, but itll be pretty damn close.

http://www.butterflysmasher.com is actually what I am going off of.

Bean 2 12-05-2005 10:54 PM

simple is always better when making a website. First you should think of what your trying to do with the site(what is the point of you making the site) which should determine a lot of the style. Also think of who will be looking at the site and try to cater to them. Your buttons should be accessible and clear and there should be some arrangement to the overall site. Graphics help attract people and there should be 1 or 2 fonts at the most like others have said, and the font should match the overall theme of the site.

heres one layout i just made to show you simplicity works.

yeah, your in pretty good shape so far. some things i noticed are the differences in the logos and their positions, and you should also consider adding some other colors.

Forte 12-06-2005 08:49 PM

Anyone likes a clean black and white, if it's clean. Yours is to irritating on the eyes. Ease it up a little with some gray or something and make it less blocky and smooth everything out.
