Just get PC3200 no matter what you have. Most of the time it's cheaper than 2700/2100 anyway and it will downclock itself.

I've heard good things about the Asus as well however; folks do say the chipset fan goes out so maybe buy an aftermarket up front if you go with that. This one works: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835110103 I'm not sure about the DFI Infinity. Most folks opt for the Ultra SLi-D or DR's but they are pricy. Something to think about both Asus and Abit will have "32x" versions of their SLi boards out soon (next week or two) which is 2 16x PCI-Express lanes in SLi mode as apposed to 1 16x PCI-Express lane split 2 ways. However I can't really imaging that you would find yourself wanting more bandwidth with 2 6800 GT's in SLi mode even if they were running at on 8x lanes. Nother point in regards to your upgrade. I would go ahead and got with 2 GB's of RAM (2x1GB kit) as opposed to 1 GB. I ran into problems with all 4 slots populated on my Abit AN8 SLi (4x512) running at it's rated speed and timings (from what I've gathered it has more to do with my CPU than the motherboard as the memory controller doesn't handle all four banks being populated well. Heck it's in the friggin manual I just didn't read it). I did upgrade to a 2 GB kit (2x1GB sticks) of this stuff: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820220040 works well. |

lol, the 3800 daul core outperforms the 3.8 and costs less... why even try out intel.
|
because AMD is made in 3rd world countries on forced labour, its morally wrong to buy AMD chips!

A haggis shaped cpu heatsink? ed: For people saying intel > amd oOo: At the moment amd is the better cpu, intels only cpu that can compete with them is the pentium m chip and it was originally designed for laptops and takes a lot of its design from the old pentium 3 coppermine chip. Untill intel can come up with a dualcore version of that and address some of its weaknesses amd is the better cpu. |

My monitor has a yellow tint on it. It has been like this for awhile. I tried tightening cords and that didn't work. Im able to like smack it a few times and it goes back to normal but minutes later it will go back.
So, I need a new monitor. I need to find a cheap monitor [under $300] that works good. Help is appreciated. beer: |
depends if your you'd go for TFT or CRT.
You wont get a really good one for that price, but you could get a really decent 19" CRT monitor for the price. Quote:

Micro-Center has 19' reconditioned name brand monitors for $89.00 after a $30.00 rebate.
The RESTART Trift Shop has 17' used monitors for $25.00. Bought one for my Mom. |

This isn't an 'upgrade' question , but a troubleshoot.
I have a Western Digital HDD that a buddy gave me. IT has like windows 98 on it with some other shit. Anyways, I've set the jumpers to slave and my computer registers it, via device managed, hardware manager,etc... but the only problem is I see no way of accessing it. I can't find it in 'My Computer' . All I see is my other hdd and my 2 CD drives. Any help? |
Right now I'm looking at Device Manager and I keep noticing that my primary hdd is labeled C: but the slave hdd won't show up as anything...
do I have to label the other one or assign it somehow? |
Right Click My Computer - Manage - Disk Management
Your new drive will probably show up as "Unallocated Disk Space" or something, Right Click - Format |

that's what I'm seeing...still not sure if I'm clicking the right area or something. |
Scroll down and see if there is another HD that doesn't have a name.
|

there isn't... I'm seeing the main hdd as C then the two CD drives as D and E |
