Came back an hour ago from the early show, amazing film. Mendes did a good job following most of the book but got side-tracked in a few scenes, to send different messages acroos. The film to me spoke massive volumes on troop behavior, eg. *Spoiler* In one scene Swof and his spotter is able to kill someone but the action is over-ruled by a superior officer, Troy (the spotter) then begins to get emotional because the war has brought such heavy boredom to him, but it's also something most marines want to do when they get in a war (kill the enemy) ...Very good film, I couldn't answer whether or not it was anti-war or pro-war but I can tell you its very marginal..

you realize its a true story right....the director didnt do shit..he filmed the guys life

I read the book Nyck, so I do know what was real and what wasn't....

Here is what Mendes added (spoilers)

-In STA training someone dies from machine gun fire from a obstacle course.
-Friendly fire from a-10's (Mendes even stated in an interview he added it)
-Some of the daily activities that the marines do arn't in the book, I would list them but its pointless.

there are a few others but I really can't remeber the book that well to list every single one, I read it before the summer and intend on buying the book soon.

I thought this movie was better than the book.

The movie was great, it portrayed exactly how Marines act, the slang we use. I mean its pretty much all completly accurate in the life of a Marine back at home and overseas. Definatly an awesome movie.

P.S. Swofford wasn't in STA. He pretty much made up a big chunk of the story/ book so it would be interesting.

I dunno, I kinda wanna see it, but theres still a bajillion other movies I've been wanting to see, too. I missed out on that Tom Cruise movie, and Charlie and the Chocolate Facts. And Doom, too.

I dont really go to movies often... they're fun, its just not really my thing.

I don't think war movies have to show fighting, a movie like Jarhead proves this..I thought it was a unromantic look at war and it was very well done. Your comment reminds me of some of the kids in the theatre (13-14 year olds) looking for a war movie with blood and guts everywhere and they got the opposite. But the t.v spots do show most of the scenes were explosive sequences commence, obvisouly why they think it'll all be fighting.
