Calling all geeks

Ok, Arkan is at a crossroad and needs a lil' advice. Been wanting to get an iPod for sometime but now i'm thinking of that PSP instead. What i want to know is, pros and cons of each. Basically, what i'm looking for is something i can store music on and listen to while traveling. I know thats the main purpose of the iPod but i'm thinking gaming/watching movies/storing pics/wireless internet connection = more bang for the buck.

How much memory can you use to store music ?

geRV 12-11-2005 02:02 PM

I think for the psp you can buy memory sticks and can use it for whatever you want. Don't think theres any kind of limitation that only lets you use says 512mb for music with the other 512mb being used for game saves or profiles\vids etc.

Coleman 12-11-2005 02:13 PM

yep, gerv said it. You can get different size cards for the PSP. My brother has the 1gig stick and it's pretty damn nice. He has Batman Begins on it right now and that takes up about 600megs which leaves alot of space for other things.

I'd rather get a PSP over an Ipod actually. I'm not sure what the conditions are when you're listening to music (ie jogging, car, bus, sitting at the office, etc). If you will use it for those situations, the psp probably won't be your best choice of media players.

12-11-2005 03:15 PM

Yeah with the PSP you can get a few memory stuck duos, have one for game saves and one for movies/media etc..

although they now have the video iPod...

Judas 12-11-2005 03:36 PM

ive dled a couple of pron flicks formatted for that thing ... so, i guess if you need portable pron vs portable music then psp.

Well, i'm not 15 anymore and i get laid on a daily basis so that rules out my needing p0rn. I just want something i could store a shit load of songs on and use a docking station for amplified sound. I like the multiple uses of the PSP vs the iPod. Can anyone that actually has a PSP respond ?

Nyck 12-11-2005 03:48 PM

if you want something for music get an Ipod. huge built in storage and its MADE to play music.

The psp has no docking stations to hook up to stereos and shit that I know of.

anti 12-11-2005 03:51 PM

Aye, I've got both an Ipod and PSP. I don't have a big enough memory stick for the PSP so it's kinda worthless at the moment. If you get one, before you do anything you'll have to dish out a bit of cash for extra memory (when you just spent a shitload on the PSP itself). Wireless internet is kind of a joke, it's novelty wears off quick. Putting on emulators and playing old school Mario where ever you go is a +. Battery life isn't that great... and that's about it. I haven't tried movies yet since they won't fit on my 32mb included card. If I had to buy it I wouldn't have. Ipod is just too good for music, and that's all ya need imo.

Himmler 12-11-2005 03:57 PM

id get the ipod. the psp is nice but too much of a hassle. plus it will end up costing alot more than an ipod. (games, movies, memory cards)

Arkan 12-11-2005 04:01 PM

Thnx guys, i'm now leaning towards the iPod. I already have a comp, note book, portable DVD player, and game consoles. I guess all the extra shit with the PSP isn't necessary for what i really want it for.

Ok, next question. Where did you guys get your iPods? I'd like a 20 - 30 Gig one.

Himmler 12-11-2005 04:02 PM

30 Gig Video ipod. black. make sure u get the warrenty.

12-11-2005 04:05 PM

yep the new iPods come in 30 and 60 gig and they play videos by default.

Nyck 12-11-2005 04:06 PM

All my music I have on my computer = 2 gigs

Arkan 12-11-2005 04:12 PM

Warrentee eh? These fuckers are prone to breakage ?

Bucknub 12-11-2005 04:12 PM

all my music on my PC = 11.45gigs

no, its just that say in 1, or 2 years time somehow does break you can get a whole new one and say if they come out with a new type of ipod which they most definately will, you can grab that one for free.

c312 12-11-2005 04:17 PM

Most of the people I know who have iPods have had trouble with it losing it's ability to keep a charge. My brother's for instance, needs constant recharging to hold any charge. I would look for some alternative options to the iPod, unless you are aiming for the video one, because there aren't many good alternatives for the vid ipod.

All lithium ion batteries have that problem.

that only happens after about a year - 2years. not a big problem at all

Coleman 12-11-2005 04:56 PM

wtf, how often are you gonna watch a video on a 2inch by 2inch screen? When I have a music player, I usually use it when I'm listening to music in the car (can't watch videos then), when I am studying away from my PC (no point to watching videos then), when I'm walking to class (can't watch videos then), when I want to fall asleep (no point to watching videos then).

Unless you use public transportation alot and just sit there while you travel, I don't see a huge use in the video feature. It's a stupid gimmick if you ask me.

Arkan even said he had a protable DVD player. There ya go, there's the video.

iPod is smaller than a portable DVD player.

So why is that not a big problem? A year- 2years is not a very long time, I would certainly want it to last longer than that if I paid all that money for it.

And Akuma, I bought a Dell DJ at the same time my brother bought his iPod and his has terrible battery life compared to mine.

Akuma 12-11-2005 05:19 PM

We'll I've had my iPod for 3 years and it still keeps a good 10 hours of battery life compared to 12 when I first bought it.

considering im on my 2nd ipod for free in the last 3 years, that doesnt seem like a big problem. if it was every month that it would die, then yeah that would be a problem. but after 2 years its not a big problem at all imo. lots of shit doesnt even last 2 years. take a look at hard drives, lots of them fail within months. other computer hardware somtimes doesnt even last 2 years. and with the ipod you can get a replacement for as little as $75. and whatever type of ipod they have then too

Coleman 12-11-2005 05:36 PM

i just don't see why you would want to buy a product that would always tend to break...even if you do get a new ipod. It would be such a hassel to send it in al the time for a replacement product.

Nice arguments, Now im definately going towards a Ipod oOo:

Akuma 12-11-2005 05:47 PM

iPods don't break anymore than any other MP3 player.

You know why there are more cases of it breaking? Because 1000x as many people have iPods as all other MP3 players combined.

anti 12-11-2005 05:51 PM

here we go again with the zen vs. ipod. no one ever really produces any strong arguments, its just fan boy flaming.

who wants to get two in 3 years? and why should you settle to have to pay anything at all? you're saying it's fine if your ipod breaks, cause it only costs $75? I would rather buy a player that wouldn't break in the first place so I don't have to pay ANYTHING.
