I dont know about you guys, but I hate buying presents for others during the holidays. Seriously, wtf is the point of having all these sales, discounts, free shipping etc if you cant spend your money on shit that you want. I always have extra money during the holidays and i have to fuckin slum it the rest of the year by ordering off the value menu at McDs and taco bell and living off ketchup and mustard packets at work, so why shouldnt i spend my money on shit that i want now when its on sale? If i just let people buy me stuff, i end up getting coupons, clothes that are too small, CDs and some gift cards to places i never shop at. 3 years ago i gave my gf of 4.5 years a jacket, sweaters, shoes, a clock from Ikea that she wanted and she didnt give me shit. I also got her a pair of sapphire earings. Its the same every year: i helped my mom and sister get a car this one year, help them out of debt and take them out to eat all the time. when the holidays come, they give me a bunch of shit for not being able to afford presents for everyone. I just came home with 3 large bags of shit that i bought for me from best buy, target, and anchor blue. when i walked in, the first thing i hear from my family is "oh shit what did you get us?? dont tell me, youll ruin christmas." fuck you guys, this shit is mine! im in my room now buying shit thats on sale from amazon, overstock and whatnot. i just got season 1 of that show "Milenium" for $15 on overstock.com last night. I think the holiday shopping rules should be reversed. everyone should spend on themselves and thats it. I'll take them out to the movies and dinner this year....maybe - thats it.

Its your money, spend it how you want to. I never break the 50$ limit on a person.

I spent a lot of money christmas shopping, got a lot of stuff for my best friends, but my brother is going to get spoiled, spent the most on him. no lady friend this year, so i dont have to waste money.

only really big spending I did was getting a lady friend of mine a heart shaped diamond necklace. but I hate it when you put all your time and effort in them and in the end all they want to be is 'just friends' loney:

I buy cheap gifts with value. My dad just bought a digital SLR so I bought him an inexpensive book on learning digital photography and Photoshop. Cheap with meaning is the way to go.

I was feeling bad for you until you mentioned that you lived at home. Still, pretty shitty that they're sucking you dry. My family has always been just the opposite. They don't ask for shit and tell me not to spend money on them. I want to buy them stuff and never know what to get them.

i know exactly what you mean tho man, fuckin xmas is so commercialistic nowadays, i would honestly rather that no one got me anything, that way i wouldnt have to get anything for anyone...

and its not like i dont care about these people, or that i think they dont deserve to get presents or material objects or whatever, but i just hate all the pagentry and shit, and when its all over, after all the presents have been selfishly and feverishly opened...what does it all come down to? do you love your family any more or less? no...

i think all the crazy gift giving is centered all around children

That's what makes Xmas fun for me. My boys (almost 5 and 2) are all jazzed up now. The little one doesn't even know what to expect, he's just enjoying the decorations, tree, etc. At this age they're easy to shop for and hard to let down. They'll be happy with whatever they get.

I realize that this won't last long, but like Nyck said, you have to raise your kids to be greatful for what they have and not spoil them and give them a sense of entitlement.

I went x-mas shopping with my bro and cousin. My mom handed me some cash before I left. We walk into Wilsons leather and they are having a sale so my bro and I bought leather jackets "for eachother". beer: I also got him a boony hat from the army surplus store(40% off everything, anyone need bdu's for $10?)

i dont buy that bullshit about being nice one time of the year. im not a dickhead, i dont treat people like dirt throughout the whole year, so theres no point (imo) to be "nice" to everyone else just because its a hallmark season. i was going to make my brother a pc this year, but he doesnt have the room for it in his room and his gf is so retarded that she would prolly break it in the middle of a fight. shes the kind of person who throws shit and takes her tantrums out on your property. i do things for people all year long and for some reason i always have some surplus money at the end. alot of stuff i want to buy for myself is on sale and i can afford it now. i just dont see why i have to buy a bunch of stuff for everyone else when i can get what i want. i love my family, no matter how much they suck sometimes, but this year i think i dont want to do that whole gift thing. it sucks cause i know that they all got me stuff. i would rather take them out to eat at a nice place and go see a movie or something. i dont know, ever since my ex, ive hated every single holiday since. ffs, women are trash.

i can see how you would think that about most of the ppl here, but i do my best to treat everyone as i want to be treated, often to have it thrown in my face...

i dont like the feeling of pressure i think madmartagen is talking about that you need to buy buy buy for everyone or else youll come off as a bad family member, its not the way xmas and the holidays should be...

and i used to do charity with my parents when i was in hs, sometimes i wish i could do some of it again, i know i should, thats really the best way to feel good about yourself for xmas


anyway, i think i wanna celebrate kwaanza from now on, i went around the mall today with my brother when we were shopping, and we were doing the kwaanza solute to everything we saw "harambii! harambii! harambii!!!"

Good for you. No really, fuck others and there greedy asses. Fuck all this "its a time of giving" bullshit, the only reason people give is because they know if they dont they wont get shit in return. Its completly a season of getting. If it were a season of giving, youd walk down to Toys r Us with your kids and have them pick out toys, then youd give them to toys for tots or some bullshit. Hell even those toys for tots kids are greedy fucks, "its just not christmas for these kids if they dont get a toy". What the fuck is that bullshit, way to instill the true meaning of the holiday in them. Give the mother fuckers some glue and maccaroni and have them make eachother cards or some shit, grand total cost 14 bucks.

I stopped buying "christmas" shit at like 5. Mostly cause i didnt give a fuck about the holiday and figured i wasnt going to celebrate it, so why the fuck support it. Every damn year i told people dont get me a damn thing, they still did and would ask why i didnt get them anything. I'd hand them back the shit they gave me and say "i dont do this fucking holiday". Get some puzzeled looks from others when your 8 saying shit like that. Though most people didnt start wanting to know where there presant was until i was in middle school.

These days more of my family has caught on and are only giving 1 or 2 things and have really toned down the scale of the production of the christmas eve and day family get togethers. They are starting to feel the lack of joy in the season i felt at age 5.
