All that grease was likly for storage, to limit the amount of water damage and rusting. Not un common for tossing a rifle into long term storage when you dont want to deal with it every month to maintain it.

cosmoline, it is a bitch to remove. After you fire the weapon it will sweat from the wood. There are many websites that offer tips to get it out. One way is to complete disassembly and pack the stock in kitty litter, if you are in a warm climate put it in the trunk of a car while in the kitty litter and it will help sweat it out

Go down to sully's talk to the guy standing by the black door in the back of the pub. Tell him you need tools to persuade someone to do somthing for you. He should let you in. Have money in hand..... |
wonderfully smooth bolt, cept the bullets for a .303 are expensive!
The s/n 55C1096 puts the date of manufacture early 1943 in a plant in the United States. The rifles were shipped over via the Lend-Lease act. this rifle was shipped to England and given to a soldier who may well have fired it at The Enemy. When the soldier was finished with the rifle, it was stored. The military stored firearms by covering them with grease. This was not a problem, as they had personnel who might grumble about removing grease from firearms but could be ordered to do it nonetheless. |
cool .... rock:

I know quite a few brits who own an enfield. They had to go through months of waiting and a mountain of paperwork though hake: Took me 5 minutes to fill out a form and a routine background check and i was out the door with the gun. Oh well laws are laws. |
