contacts, glasses, or lasik?

i currently wear glasses but before summer arrives, im gonna switch over to contacts hopefully. I'd love to get lasik but it's still pretty high. When it first came out it was $1000/per eye but now i've seen it advertised at $399/per eye. So im wondering, how is it wearing contacts? Is it more convienient for the average person? Do you see just as well with them in as you would with glasses? And phinally', is it true they'll get stuck in your eye if you fall asleep with them in.. cry: ?

Nyck 04-01-2006 08:17 AM

glasses

tomxtr 04-01-2006 08:23 AM

Daily contacts.

If you sleep in them, they dry out a little and are a little tougher to get out.

Decent Lasik is like $3000 around here. $399/eye = beware of Dr. Nick Riviera. My wife had it like 3 years ago and went from 20/450 to 20/20 and 20/15. Definitely worth it if you have the means.

just go contacts

04-01-2006 10:47 AM

i had contacts, i couldnt stand them. i like my glasses.

Poseidon 04-01-2006 10:56 AM

I had glasses, went to contacts and found them to be a pain getting in. So I stopped using both. I'll never go back to glasses now. Its only my left eye that is blurry anyway so I can see fine with both eyes open.

SoLiDUS 04-01-2006 11:05 AM

I have astigmatism, so contacts are out of the question. Since my correction is only -1 (only for reading and shit) on both eyes and it's either the operation or glasses, I'll go with glasses...

I have an astigmatism but I just got a special tonic lense, and it fit.

TonyMontana 04-01-2006 12:11 PM

i wear glasses, and have no problems with it, but man, don't cheap out on laser surgery. it's your vision ffs. pay the thousands if you have it

geRV 04-01-2006 12:31 PM

i have that exact problem is fucking gay

Chiodos86 04-01-2006 03:34 PM

i wear contacts and i barely change them out (which is really stupid actually) you should take them out when you sleep but most of the time i forget, you also cant rub your eyes at all while there in cause you rub them out and then your screwed...i would definetly keep your glasses around too though cause its nice to not have to fuck around with putting in contacts every so often

Pyro 04-01-2006 05:22 PM

I wear glasses...yoo lazy for contacts and it'll be odd after like 8 years of glasses...to see myself with no glasses...won't seem like me anymore.

ull lose ur sex appeal

CoMaToSe 04-01-2006 05:52 PM

lasik is too dangerous for me, contacts are too much of a pain in the ass to bother with in the mornings. Glasses dont bother me

jujumantb 04-01-2006 06:38 PM

Depends on the person for contacts, I can leave mine in for literally months at a time without them ever bothering me. Sometimes they are a little dry when I first wake up, but after 5 minutes they are back to normal. For me they are MUCH easier than glasses and are about the same price for how long glasses have lasted me in the past.

I rubbed my eye in the bathroom and it fell out, never saw it again. It was a monthly lense too, so it still had like 2 weeks left. cry:

The problem with toric lenses and astigmatism is that the moment either lense rotates, your correction goes out the window. That, and they're expensive as fuck...

I was paying £17 a month for a toric and a normal lense. Not too bad really.

SoLiDUS 04-01-2006 08:44 PM

Not bad. They expect me to fork over like 150$ a pair! eek:

SoLiDUS 04-01-2006 10:50 PM

Good genes = no need for correction in the first place. LOL biggrin:

Madmartagen 04-01-2006 10:54 PM

i have both, i use my glasses on weekends when im louging around the house and when i get home from work, cause if i take a nap, i hate getting up to take off my lens. i wear my lenses when i go out, to school and work. glasses are just convenient to have cause you can just slip them off and sleep.

whats the difference between soft, and hard lenses(does one of em help you see any better than the other? More comfortable?) .Also, i called lens crafters and they refuse to quote prices so can you guys give me an idea of how much contacts cost on average?

most are soft these days, they are much more comfortable and breathe better.
6 pairs run me about $80, though I've been getting them through my doctor, I'm sure you can find them cheaper at like 1800contact.com

gtboys34 04-04-2006 10:05 PM

cool, very cool man! Ty. One last question, how long does each pair last, on average?

Forte 04-04-2006 10:41 PM

I wear glasses. dont know why you guys think contacts are easier than glasses. you just put glasses on your face and you are good to go. contacts you have to wash them in solution, then put them in your eye one at a time.

Depends, I wear mine for a month straight, no hassle at all. Plus, losing a contact is nothing compared to losing or breaking a pair of glasses.

true, but for ease of use I just prefer glasses.

I know how it could potentially be bad. I understand I may be at a bigger risk for *gasp* an EYE INFECTION! Again, it depends on the person, mine have been perfectly healthy with my wearing pattern, some people are more prone to eye infections and such...
FDA has approved certain kind contacts for 30 days straight now, they let more oxygen through, something that is not actually NEEDED for everyone. [/i]

Daily wears for me. Less than a buck a day. About 10 seconds to put each in and I toss them before bed. No hassle at all. I have extras in my car, work, bag, etc. If they feel uncomfortable, I just switch them out.

Coleman 04-05-2006 07:29 AM

contacts seem to be alot easier for me. I can put them in just as quickly as it takes me to get the dust off my glasses and put them on. Plus, the whole world seems so much clearer with contacts. Everywhere you look is in focus. You don't need to worry about being caught outside if it starts to rain either. I f'ing hated with my glasses would get wet. Not to mention that contacts are a lot safer when playing sports.

and when you walk into a warm house after coming from the cold outside. and your glasses steamed up, hated it when that happened.

Forte 04-05-2006 09:24 AM

my lenses dont fog, or get water drops on them from the rain. the water just rolls right off.
