Nyck, support the new bill going through Michigan to repeal sales tax on gas if it goes over $1.95 a gallon. Michigan is one of the only states to have sales tax on gas above and beyond the other taxes on the gas. Write your elected officals. Ill forward more info to you if you want it

is this the one that Jenny G is pushing?

HeadUp 04-27-2006 10:08 AM

i saw something about gas prices in relation to state and federal taxes on fox news

while gas station attendants make only 14 cents per gallon at around 2.19/gallon, gov't taxes are almost 50 cents per gallon

they were saying the gov't is playing on the ignorance of the american ppl and making us think its the gas companies (which i still think it is partially), but its actually just as much our gov't's fault

then an argument over what we should do about it ensued and neither the libs or the cons had anything useful or realistic to offer up

the gas companies are the ones who are pulling in the big $$$, not the goverment or the gas stations themselves. Sure the goverment brings in money but in canada at least, it is called a "road tax" which goes into public transportation and road repairs.

Madmartagen 04-27-2006 12:35 PM

lol, reminds me of W's tax cut check. 'omg im gonna git a $300 check!!!!' election year fuckwads

isnt that because they tax it more? I thought it was sold for the same price all over and it is up to the Govts to tax the living crap out of it

Do you honestly expect them to give more than $100 per person? That's nearly $1 billion they are handing out.

Hold on there, chief. Aren't they taking this out of your taxes ? Therefore, aren't you just "giving" yourself 100$ ?? Someone explain this to a guy who hasn't slept in 24 hours.

Machette 04-27-2006 05:13 PM

It's alright..the U.S has got all the money in the world.

does anyone remember the price of gas before katrina, before 9/11? What was the avg cost back then?

btw, nyck, please stop with the racist jokes!

Unknown_Sniper 04-27-2006 06:08 PM

before 9/11 I was just starting to drive and gas around me was about $1/gal with bad days it being $1.12

jujumantb 04-27-2006 10:21 PM

Its a speculating that is driving the prices up... the simple solution is to have the government regulate oil instead of it being on the open market for faggots to bid the prices up...

c312 04-27-2006 10:37 PM

ehh, we like our economy to be laissez faire so that is probably out of the question.

The pound is also stronger than the dollar so its not a one-to-one comparison.

The governments not about to hand out checks to 150 million crybabies - no doubt it would be a voucher, non-redeemable for cash (at least not to the consumner). They might even make it only available to individuals with registered vehicles (if this thing gets off the ground - which it wont).

What the fuck is "Lithuanian" - some East European Ska-Band who pop anal beads ass-to-ass as part of their on-stage gimmick?

Seriously - help me out here. . .

When did we try to regulate it? I dont recall, I aslo dont recall how it could possibly make it worse?! Remember katrina? Remember that smaller hurricane that hit around that time aswell? Well, for the smaller one, a few days before it hit, gas went up 20cents... all because of speculating.

laissez faire doesnt mean socialism, it means "hands off" as in the government doesnt regulate business/industry. Ever since hoover gave way to FDR, the government has played a huge role in business and industry regulation. Though this is all pretty much pointless to the topic.

The only truly monopolistic country is Hong Kong.

It is very hard for any country to totally have their hands off the economy, I think it may be impossible.
