Saturday, May 6, is Free Comic Book Day!
For those of you who are still comic book geeks like me ... tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day. Here is a link where you can enter your zip code and locate a participating comic book store near you.
http://www.freecomicbookday.com/ [quote:88b93]1. What is "Free Comic Book Day?" As the name implies, Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world are giving away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. 2. When is Free Comic Book Day? Free Comic Book Day will take place on May 6, 2006 . 3. Are they really free? Yep! 4. Is every comic book store in the world doing this? If you're asking about convenience stores with a spinner rack of comics in a corner somewhere, the answer is no. This event celebrates the independent comic book specialty stores, thousands of which exist in North America alone. Each one is unique in its community, with a style and personality all its own, and each one carries a full line of comics, graphic novels, and related products. While we hope every one of these stores will take part, each store will determine on its own whether or not to participate ...... .... 10. Is this just happening in the U.S.? Any comic book store in the world can participate in Free Comic Book Day, although there may be some limitations on which titles are available in which countries due to licensing and other considerations. Wooohoooo!!!!! The store near my house gave me three freebies since I bought something!!! I got a Superman comic, a Spiderman and the 65th Anniversary issue of the Archies. I got the Archies book for my 15 year old daughter. I figured she was too old for it but I used to buy her Archie books when she was younger. Much to my surprise, when she finished reading it, she said, "That was good Dad. Thanks!" ...... Sweet.
Anyway, each comic is a "special" issue and has the "Free Comic Book Day" logo on it. there are about 28 titles that are participating. The store I was at had a box full of the free issues. They had a couple of Superman books, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Conan, Liberty Girl, The Archies, Transformers, Donald Duck and several others that I was not familiar with. Titles for all ages! It was a pretty dang good selection and it was tough just picking three. I forgot to mention, I bought three Sgt. Rocks from the early 70's. The Sgt. Rock graphic novel that Joe Kubert illustrated a couple of years ago called "Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place". I also bought a set of three Avenger books from early 70's. So much for "free" comic book day! LOL |
Awesome.
