Black based Movies/sitcoms
i've always wanted to know if other races watched our movies (average majority of) or was it just us watching them. I'll name a few in no particular order
boyz n the hood (hence the avatar), Roots, waiting to exhale, dont be a menace while drink your juice in the hood, higher learning, thin line between love and hate, menace to society, above the rim, disappearing acts, dead presidents, friday etc etc. as far as sitcoms go, family matters, in living color, cosby show, good times (rereuns of course), martin, .. |
lol not me
does dave chapelle count though? |
yeah chappelle..how about Animal or Baby Boy (both starring ving rhames)?
|
boyz n the hood and dead presidents are classics.
What is it with you and race though!? |
nothing man!. I was just a little curious about the topic above, thats all. I admit, i have been a little sensitive the last few weeks about 'my race' but it's all good. Im sure you guys are all cool (with the exception of camo toes) in the real world.
|
I've watched Boyz n The Hood
I've watcched The Cosby Show and Family Matters, but I hate those stupid ass black sitcoms that come on UPN or the WB network. You know, the ones with that Brandy girl, and some other shitstains. It's like they're trying to be overtly black only just because. Cosby Show owns you though. |

ive always found black entertainment to be good stuff. i think ive watched just about all the black tv shows. i was a big fan of martin, and in living color ( as well as the other wayons brothers show ). one of the few animated shows i use to watch was the ed murphy one - the pjs ( awesome show ). i watched the huxtables. ... and i dont just "not watch a movie" because it features blacks. ive seen all the ones you mentioned, and probably more. I just couldnt get his voice outta my head. Good stuff... good stuff. Dont be a menace has to be one of the funniest movies ever created. I remember i was like 8 or 9 when i first saw that (yeah, nice role models eh?) and EVERYONE in the theathre* was laughing their asse's off

Friday owns. Also, I saw "How High" in a theater in a black neighborhood (Fairlane Mall for you michiganders) and it was one of the funniest things of all time.
PS - I'm a white guy thats actually a minority... I live in the inner-city of Detroit which is roughly 85% black. I'm not saying I know what it is to be a true minority, but I've experienced things that many of you never will. |
surprised no one has brought up the boondocks.
|
seen higher education, ray, baby boy (hahaha nigga squat), the wash (one of my fav movies), soul plane, fridays, down to earth, those dmx movies, chappelle, etc
i love black stand up, chris rock, tommy davidson, old cosby, richard pryor, some of BET stand up, etc. my friends and i make fun of a lot of the niggas in pgh, there are a lot more dirty ghetto yard apes than respectable black people...or at least in oakland where the university is, where the crips are right around the corner and a drive by is not new news i try not to judge people before i meet em, but in many cases i can tell by the way they dress and talk and act. either way, my love for hip hop and interest in soul and black expression in film and personal effort to not hate others based on race has me try to accept everyone for who they are and enjoy black entertainment a lot |
i've seen all of those "black movies". I really can't get into any of the black comedy shows on the WB network. I just don't understand the comedy in them I guess.
