Space shuttle launch

It should be launching in about 1hr 20mins from now. They're launching even though they found a crack in the insulation foam lining the fuel tank. Let's hope it doesn't blow up!

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God’s love be with you

Spoken:
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Lift-off

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare

“This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear....

“ am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do.?

the shuttles are such an inefficient means of transport. if they want to continue the program they're going to need a much more advanced fleet. that being said i'd love to take a ride on one.

1080jibber 07-04-2006 02:15 PM

5000 MPH ed: ed: ed: ed: ed:

no there going 7000 MPH ed:

Blase 07-04-2006 02:18 PM

That was interesting.

1080jibber 07-04-2006 02:19 PM

4 miles a second biggrin: i have got to start reading about this shit, just crazy

ninty 07-04-2006 02:24 PM

when the shuttle is in earth orbit it will be traveling at 17,000miles/hour.

that's only 4.7 miles per second whle the speed of light is around 186,000 miles/second, contrary to CNN stating that the space shuttle travels at 18X the spped of light.

4.7 miles/sec seems fast, but on an interstellar scale, this is painfully slow.

mr.miyagi 07-04-2006 02:24 PM

sweet launch

I heard one of the astronaughts say "I forgot my Ipod, can I quickly go and get it?...."

bukdez 07-04-2006 03:15 PM

i saw challenger blow up...

Arkan 07-04-2006 05:25 PM

Well, now my buddy can come home. He's a parajumper and got deployed to Florida for the launch. Everytime they launch from the east coast, he gets deployed for possible rescue/recovery operations.
