your first job

the McDonalds thread got me thinking about my first job. i was 12 and I worked at a pet store cleaning crap out of cages. It was a fun job because I got to play with all the critters but it also sucked because all the critters crap all the time!!
$1.00 an hour!!!!! rock:

KTOG 08-07-2006 11:43 AM

Waiter at a fancy retirement home. Every week you'd have new patrons because the old ones died.

Jotun 08-07-2006 12:09 PM

Airborne Butters 08-07-2006 12:10 PM

Dishwasher...

hated it at first, but then slowly realised it was awesome because , as a fat kid, I got free foods n drinks, easy ass hours, tipped sometimes and payed 10 bucks an hour. Half the time I wasn't even doing anything other then farting round with the other dishwashers playing stupid games.

Doctor Duffy 08-07-2006 12:13 PM

I got a job at a Thai restaurant doing dishes.
Boring as fuck, nobody ever came to the restaurant, so I sat around for 4 hours a day and ate creamcheesefakecrabmeat wontons and sometimes played with the cow brains in the freezer.

I've mowed a couple lawns this summer, and got $50 for one of them, but this asian dude seems to have taken over the entire neighborhood (as far as lawns go) and they all have him as their lawnmower already.

Industrial Trailer. They rent trailers (45-53 ft. semi trailers) to companies who then store stuff in the trailers. They had a huge yard with all the trailers, and I would basically do maintenance.

Sweep out trailers
Paint entire trailer. (Only did it a couple times but it sucked ass)
Scrape and prime rusted metal around read doors
Tar roofs where cracks were
Attach industrial trailer signs to the trailers

They also rented out those big cargo boxes you see on ships. I had to paint and clean up those suckers also.

I think I got $8 and hour and this was probably 8 or so years ago.

Worked good hours. 8-4:30 and got to be outside and get a tan all summer long. Not much supervision because I was trusted to do good work and basically got to work on my own fixing up the trailers.

Coleman 08-07-2006 06:18 PM

haven't had a government-known job yet. I've been doing handy-man work for about 4 years now that mixes lawn care and do-it-yourself house projects like installing air conditioners, painting rooms/houses, sanding railings down, priming/painting metal railings, etc.

Madmartagen 08-07-2006 06:32 PM

worked at a nursery on saturdays when i was 15 years old and made about $30 each day. when i got out of the service i got a job at a computer returns warehouse stocking and processing product. it was cool because i got to drive all kinds of heavy machinery and got a dollar extra for driving. i was making about $11 per hour until they transferred me way out in another county. i was part time, so it wasnt worth it and since i was part time, it was hard for me to show up on time, so i got fired. it was the best thing though, cause i went to Sony and got a nice job there. that was a fun job and i worked in customer service supporting the reps making $14 an hour. i used my position in the company to get me a ticket to E3 that year and i started dating one of the managers. they relocated the whole dept to san diego county, so most of us had to get another job. it was hard and i couldnt get anything that could match the pay, so i went to a temp agency and got a data entry job for $12 an hour at this vocational school. it was the shittiest and most unrewarding job i've had and so even after they hired me and gave me a dollar raise, i decided to quit after i took a trip to Canada. a month later i went to another agency and they found me this sweet job at my current company for $15 an hour. i started out being an admin for the Telecom dept in blackbery support and the person i worked with was cool enough to teach me everything and so she started relying on me more and more for billing and technical support. our VP had me doing some projects after they figured i knew well enough, and started she started asking around if they could hire me permanently. upper managment said no because of budgeting and staffing restrictions, so when my contranct expired, i was let go at the end of this last April. i went to phoenix and chicago to do some sightseeing while i was unemployed and kept in touch with them during my time off. About 5 weeks later, my partner and supv persuaded upper managment to bring me on for another contract until the end of this year. hopefully, they will be able to hire me full time. i am looking around for some Telecom-IT certificates so i can bump my pay grade in case they do. when they brought me back, my supv told them to give me an extra dollar per hour, so im making $16 at a job i love. if i dont get hired here full time, i will probably try to get into the mortgage industry. i am going to school at night now, but i hope i get hired here, i could do this long term for a while.

LAWLOMFG oOo:

Bucknub 08-07-2006 06:37 PM

very first job I has was an "under the table" one I had working for my Dads friends doing maintainence work in office buildings

Mainly I steam cleaned carpets
Stripped and waxed floors
Cleaned
Painted
did that for about a year every single weekend. and every weekend I hated doing it. but it was all I had at the time and was still too young to get a real job and I needed money.

2nd one was working with my brother in a warehouse and delt with Truck and Car tires.

basically had to take out the tires from the trailer and put them on the skids and then someone (maybe me) would have to stcik them in the other trailer the same way lol, was sucha complete waste.
Did that for one Summer and Fucking quit that bitch

Didnt work for about a year after that. Then the next summer came along and I applied at so many stores and neither of them called me back. Until early october I received a phone call from an employer that asked me if i was still interested in a job, and I said sure I was.

That place now just Happens to be My Current Job In the grocery Store Bakery and it will be 3 years this upcoming October that Ive been there.

Ill never EVER quit that job. It has done SO much for me and has always been there for me. Ive gotten an increased wage so many times since Ive been there, I Have my own car now and pay for it, I also have dental benefits which cover 100% for me. and just the people I work with is reason enough to go in. There hasnt been a day in the past 3 years of working there that I didnt want to go in.

What I do there:
Close
Break out we call this because I have to break out the foodz for the next day that have to be baked (sweets, buns, scoop muffins, bagles, baguettes - whatever the fuck
packaging
Set up - Come in in the morning to full all the bins for the buns and bagles and fill the baskets with bread and shit then fill tables with the frozer order we get in.
Bake - Baker all the breads and buns and sweets, just whatever.

also, During those 3 years there, I also worked at another retail store (canadian tire) Full Time. WORST fucking place to work in. I HATED everday I had to go there. I thought it would have brought me in some extra Cash, but NO, they started you off at $8/h FULL TIME wtf, I made around $500 every two weeks LOL what a shit hole. I worked in the hardware department for about 3 months until things got all changed then they transfered me to the Sports Dept, Which was a little better because Iwas working with people my own age now. They then put my incharge of the Bike Section which was fucking dredful,

I had to go in the back room upstairs and bring whatever bikes I needed back down in to the floor, ONE by ONE and put them on the racks, some were on the floor and some were at about my height and some I had to clumb a fucking wobbly ladder to put up. and there was Two aisles I had to take care of.

needless to say I dont work there anymore. I Quit just before I summer really started to get underway. There was no way I was putting up with those stupid fucking customers all summer long for $8/h. I worked there for 6 months.

Arkan 08-07-2006 07:13 PM

1st job was a porter in a bakery. Had to wash the baking trays and prepare rolls/bread/bagels for the cook.

It wasn't a bad after school job. Got to flirt with the counter girls.

we have alot of hot cashiers too. i had a few over one night and watched them make out with ecahother when we were all wasted. one of them is around 115lbs and has a nice perky set of d's; she also has a hting for me, which would be awesome but i'm in a really bad position between her and my ex so i'll probably never be able to do anything with her (again). i need to clean up my act anyways, promiscuity was never my thing; i'll leave it to fluffy.
