Damn ipod

So I get me internet hooked up and decide to get my itunes set up. I plug in the ipod to the new laptop and wait to transfer all my songs to itunes. Itunes is updating my ipod and avast anti virus alerts me that I need to re-start, so I do, only to my suprise that my ipod reformated itself upon disconnection. The update basically wiped my entire song collection out. Anyone here technically familiar with ipod's?

[DAS REICH] Blitz 08-10-2006 06:54 PM

oOo: Wait, I didn't know your Ipod could transfer everything on it to the new computer..

obligitory "ipod is defending itself from your shitty music", "self defense", helpful insight.

TGB! 08-10-2006 10:32 PM

Your iPods music is gone. The chances of you recovering it - even with hd recovery software - is nil. Has happened to me before. Enjoy life.

c312 08-10-2006 11:05 PM

Wait, I thought you couldn't transfer songs from ipods to PCs without 3rd party software.

I'm pretty sure it wiped out your songs because you synced it with an Itunes library on your new computer that presumably had nothing in it, therefore it made your iPod the same by wiping everything clear.

Madmartagen 08-10-2006 11:07 PM

wow, that sucks.

Doctor Duffy 08-10-2006 11:09 PM

Yeah, I usually make a copy of everything I get, just in case shit like this happens.

Mr.Buttocks 08-11-2006 06:57 AM

I hope you learn from this incident.

Jonsey_ 08-11-2006 11:52 AM

You cant transfer songs from ipod to pc, and also no way of getting all ur music back so basically you SOL i have your music folder on my PC dono how much more music you had but i have around 200 of your songs.

Machette 08-11-2006 02:14 PM

Yeah I had something like 15000 songs. Oh well, always good to start over again.

Proteus 08-11-2006 03:46 PM

Good ol' WMP, never failed me.

I made a rhyme.

you store you music collection on your ipod ? that doesnt sound like a good idea to start with.

Machette 08-11-2006 04:37 PM

Had it all on a CD but lost it in my move. Just wanted to know if anyone knew anyway of recovery but looks like a lost cause. Better start bit torrent again.

TGB! 08-11-2006 04:49 PM

Anyone who thinks you cant just move music from your ipod to your computer is an idiot. What APPLE™ does - and this is inGENIUS, is simply randomize all of your music into crazy ass folders which have nothing to do with each other and, I assume, runs a lil bit o software to call these albums together. But the music is all there. In glorius MP3. Its all in ipod_control hidden folder. But as it renames EVERY FUCKING FILE and tosses it in random fucking folders, sorting it all out may well take longer than just redownloading everything.

Lets not turn this into a ipod vs zen debate.

Arch 08-11-2006 05:17 PM

IPOD>ZEN FTW OF THE GAME

Short Hand 08-11-2006 05:27 PM

same thing happen to my old 10g ipod, it sucks man.

gtboys34 08-11-2006 05:53 PM

shouldve backed up your mp3's and transfered them to the new laptop

9mm BeRetTa 08-11-2006 07:17 PM

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I think the orignal topic is already dead...

So if I have say 100 legit songs on my iTunes on my home computer, there's no way to get those songs on a new school laptop? Or can I copy them somehow so my school laptop has the same files as home?
