.45 shopping

So im gonna buy some new .45 pistols in the next 2 weeks. Up here in Maine we have a huge trading post with tons of guns. I saw every flavor of AR-15, some crazy ass sniper rifles (M24 and I think I saw a .50 caliber gun as well). Anyways I was looking at their selction and couldnt help but notice that 1/3 of there pistols were all new and used Kimber models. Any idea why this is? Bad gun or just popular. ive read on some forums that it is a good starter gun with lots of add ons etc but have also noticed some negative reviews (but ive seen this on alot of various pistols). Anyone wiht experience care to comment?

Sgt>Stackem 08-28-2006 10:32 AM

a Kimber is not a starter gun. It is a Cadilac. The most popular is the 1911 Colt. I prefer Ruger because of cost and being US made. Go to a shooting range that rents guns and shoot some before you buy. What feels good to me may not fit you

Nyck 08-28-2006 10:37 AM

use it on yourself pls.

Get a Kimber Desert Warrior, or a SWAT, do it now. Atleast get a Kimber

Desert Warrior, the SWAT looks just like that, but in Black.

Kimber is one of the best .45's out there, very popular and very very good.

I shot one of these, very nice. Felt much tighter than I remember from my days in the Corp. Not as nice as a Kimber and what you see is what you get, but a damn fine pistol.

Machette 08-28-2006 06:09 PM

On Sale! oOo:

Who buys those kind of guns? eek:

are they even legal

Machette 08-28-2006 06:14 PM

I remember reading that John Ashcroft was going to ban the sale of the gun for public sale and keep it for military use only because of the fear of terrorist using it as a tactical weapon, cause really, who needs that kind of a gun for target practice.

They are fully legal in the U.S.

*awaits some gun huggers coming into the thread arguing that "them thar squirrels are tough lil bastards" hence .50 cal is required*

oOo: ed:

Machette 08-28-2006 06:18 PM

I just don't see the point. I'd be better to have the military be the only ones who can use it rather than any joe blow who can afford it.

geRV 08-28-2006 06:30 PM

Prefer this

Even though its a bb gun the look of it is amazing, only thing that can compare imo is an mg42.

As cool as that guy is, he isnt teaching tactical shooting though, who is going to stand up straight with their arms extended like that and shoot. Thats just for competition shooting i believe.

Eames 08-28-2006 07:20 PM

if your going to buy a .45 you must buy the m1911a1 model of the weapon. i think kimber and springfield armory make the best versions of the weapon. springfield sells a modified version of the "gi model" to carry 14 rounds, its pretty sweet.
