I work in IT support for a College. I have sooo many stupid things happen its untrue.

Like today:

I phoned a woman in the libary,

Librarian: Hello Learning centre
Me: hi, its mike from IT, I need to install some software on one of the machines in L301a, yet this PC is currently in use, can you give me a time, where its convenient to connect up, as its only a 2 minute job.
Librarian: Yes just old on one minute, and i'll check
Librarian: the room is free at the minute if you want to do it now
Me: No its not, im connected to it remotely, and theres someone typing an email as we speak
Librarian: No theres not, the room is free.
Me: No im connected to it and there is definately someoen on it now.
Librarian: there is no one in the L301a at the moment.
Me: Sigh ok thanks i'll call back later.



Yesterday:
Woman came up,

woman: im having problems with my laptop, the speakers arnt working.
Mark (my collegue:) Oh really
woman: Yeah you plug them in, and the text speach doesnt come out
Mark: The text speach??
Woman: yeah the text speach:
Mark: you mean the sound?
Woman: Yeah thats it

I usually turn up to find 95% of the time its either:

1: unplugged from socket
2: unplugged from port
3: Not turned on.

i work in IT/Telecom blackberry support for an investment-lending company. our customers are our sales reps and make millions of dollars but cant/dont take the time to learn how to use their blackberries.

i spent 45 minutes on one call a few months ago with a person who lost access to his emails and we were trying to figure out what happened. finally, i got him to admit that he had tried to download something and he told me that he had tried to get a Bon Jovi ringtone. by doing so, he made his blackberry lose its encryption and drop his email service. the blackberry stopped working as soon as he tried doing this, but he didnt mention it and thought that the solution would just conjur out of thin air. plzdie:

I used to work at an ISP's tech support 1½ years ago, and people used to call in about hardware failures aswell. We had no obligation to help them, but I used to help them out if I could. Thing is, it was a 50/50 Men/Women situation when it came to absolute stupidity with computer hardware. People above the age of 35 shouldnt be alowed to use computers at all. A good example would be this lady who called in:

Me: Yadaya, what can I help you with?
Lady: Hi, my internet isnt working.
Me: Ok, could you please be more specific?
Lady: Well, I click the internet button and nothing happens. I bought the Telia (name of the ISP) Internet 020 (modem internet), installed it and it still wont work. Could you help me?
Me: Well, what happens when you click....

Lots of searching for software issues. 10 minutes later:

Me: So, its safe to say that everything is properly installed. What kind of modem do you have?
Lady: Modem?
Me: Yeah, the piece of hardware you connect to the phonejack in the wall.
Lady: What does it look like?
Me: Well, theres two kinds, internal and external. Do you have a regular phonecord connected to your computer or to a little box, about the size of a pocketbook?
(You can hear the lady woman crawling around under a desk or similar, looking for the modem)
Lady: I cant find any phonecord connected to the harddrive (Yes, she called it harddrive).
Me: I think weve found the problem then. You need a modem to connect to internet.
Lady: Nobody told me that. Where can I get one.....

From there, I just tolod her how to get a modem and so on.

I hated that job. That job is the reason why I hate people.

Speaking of stupid people, i was in "Subway" getting a hero. Lady in front of me is reading the sign that clearly says:

12" hero = $5.75
6" hero = whatever the price was

Kid behind the counter asks her if she wants the foot long or the 6" hero. As she's reading the sign, she asks: "Whats the difference between the foot long and the 12" hero?". I fucking burst out laughing.....stupid fucking cunt.

Thank god the only idiots I have to deal with are drunk temps who get yelled at all day by the warehouse manager.

I work for ISP support and I get stupid cunts all the time.

For example
Customer: "I can't get on the internet and it hasn't worked for 2 months"
Me: What are the lights on the cable modem doing atm?
Customer: Lights??
Me: Yes the lights on the box we gave you when you were installed
Customer: My PC?
(lots of stupid shit follows)
Then we get to the fact that the standby light is on the modem
Me: OK seems the modem is in standby press the standby button
Customer: It doesn't have one
Me:SIGH!!!

I wanna work Internal IT...fuck tech support...id need to be guarenteed 15 fine women a night after work to unfrustrate me.

theres a helpdesk in internal IT. Almost as frustrating at times.

I'm moving to helpdesk early next year, not particularly looking forward to it.

One of our major problems at the moment is one of our buildings has currently gone 'live' on wireless. I got a helpdesk call the other day saying:

Woman: I cant access the network.
helpdesk operator: Ok, no problem let me try to ping your pc. No success. Mike go check the wiring for her will you,

So I go upstairs to find her PC wasnt plugged into the network, No problem I think, go back downstairs grab a network cable - ensure the port was live on the switch, and run back up.

Hey what you doing she shouts. I replyed Just plugging it into the network, No, no no, its supposed to be wireless!!! I then spent the next 15 minutes explaining that the wireless was for INTERNET access only and the fact you need a wireless adapter plugged into your PC or laptop. Something that was clearly documented when we announced the launch!
