microsoft vista

what do you guys think? Is it worth buying or should i stick with xp for now?

Sniper101 02-17-2007 11:58 AM

unless you have XP-64, id stick with XP. Vista will be a hugh sucking sound on a 32-bit system. Plus, a lot of school networks dont support vista yet. Id give Vista another 4-6 months before Id try to upgrade. That way, everyone else, or at least most, will be able to support it.

I upgraded and I really like it. I wouldn't pay full retail price for it though. hake:

That sucking sound is you breathing through your anus.

geRV 02-17-2007 03:06 PM

Had a few of the release candidates and i liked it a lot, just a nice visual change and a lot of nice features. Have to say though i dont like the fact that on default startup theres around 45-50 processes running, on my curent xp at bootup ive got it down to 19.

Bucknub 02-17-2007 03:07 PM

this is something I d actually pay money for, but until I get it, xp + Vista theme, will do me just fine.

Godsmack 02-18-2007 09:38 AM

im still running win2k oOo:

TGB! 02-18-2007 09:48 AM

Its cool so far. I installed it on my THINKPAD - which means no AERO but whatever. Runs fine and fast for me. Yea the ReadyBoost is a little odd, but at least it makes the overall usage experience much more smoother. This is the first Windows install where I didnt have to hunt down a single driver.

Nyck 02-18-2007 11:18 AM

we arent recommending it to our clients for a while.

we have 3 or 4 techs using it and have had many issues with VPN connectivity(it just wouldnt work with our sonicwalls)

its pretty smooth and nice looking and might be good for basic pc use, but business functionality is still shaky.

Miscguy 02-18-2007 12:43 PM

When i buy a whole new computer it will have vista. But the $300 some odd dollar price tag just for an OS is stupid.

Thats the big issue, nothing supports it as of yet. And as for the sucking sound, its not going to work as efficiently on a 32-bit system as it would a 64-bit. the smart thing to do would be to have a 64-bit system if you want to get the most use and best efficiency out of it

Eames 02-18-2007 01:29 PM

well i have an amd 64 bit system

Sniper101 02-18-2007 01:52 PM

then Vista would be ok, but be cautious if youre on a network that requires certain software for connectivity. The software might work, but the front end recognition software most likely wont. if youre on a network talk to the administrator about whether there setup supports vista.

I installed it on my computer and every bit of software and every driver I need has put me back to where I was. . .except running in VISTA instead of XP.

Does XP work - of course. But just like a car, after awhile you want to get a new one.

At the very least - leech it and then try it for 30 days. If its cool - go buy the serial, if not - go back to XP.

Having said that, theres not a chance in hell we'll be seeing it on our machines at work anytime soon.[/b]

You didn't say that originally; you said that Vista running on a 32-bit system would suck. It doesn't.

Sniper101 02-18-2007 03:44 PM

it was a poor choice of words. As an example, you could put standard parts in a high performance car and it will still work. But you wont get the performance you paid for. The good thing is they have the hardware now that will allow you to get the most out of it. But not all intermediate software supports it which is why I'd recommend against getting Vista for another few months, until other companies catch up. Especially if youre on a network, like a school or work network, a private one shouldnt be too bad

In the past 64 bit systems were dodgy as shit, mainly becuase of half assed driver support, far as i know now companies have to release 32 and 64 bit versions of drivers in the one package to get certified by ms.

So no more gay driver support which is a good thing, still dunno what version im gonna buy though. ed:

The Ultimate Extras haven't turned me on so far. Dreamscene's about the only half-decent thing, and I think I'd get bored of it after a while.
