jesus christ...36 years later

From what ive read this game has been drastically scaled down form what it was intended to be, all the elements that made it something that stood out have been seriously nerfed or removed totally.
I remember i posted a screen of this game years back with that funny looking m4 varient in it, ballisticwookie was still posting here so that shows how long ago that was. eek: |
Holy shit I forgot this game even existed. It looks terrible now.
|
PC Gamer UK has reviewed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and given it the score of 87%
Here is a couple of excerpts: It's best described as a first-person shooter/roleplaying game/ survival horror hybrid, in that order....the horror is the thing that underlines the whole game. It's what makes it work. It's what makes it different. It's: Enormous, atmospheric It's not: The hype, nearly as buggy as you'd expect, monster-stuffed rock: |
is it me or does that bloom lighting effect not look very good
|
I dont think the game in general looks very good based on screens, those cocks at fileplanet have yet to send me my multiplayer "beta" key despite the fact the games gone gold so how the fucks it a beta? oOo:
In the pic miyagi posted that hand\arm and gun look like something you'd expect the original half life engine to produce. |

whats the premise? there are nuclear mutants still living there that the military is sent to kill?

my pc's hard drive is on its way out and will only last a week or 2.
Looking for a replacement now, anyone know a good hard drive company? it'll only be for about 100-160 gigs in size cry: this game is out in a couple of days but when I have my pc up and running again, i'll post my thoughts |
seagate? western digital?
I think i've use WD hhd's all along and never had a problem. I don't know if i will be able to run this game too well. i dl R6 vegas, and i couldn't get past the opening loading screen. thats the first time i couldn't play a game on this rig. |
Seagate and WD are both great.
I prefer Seagate because they are bit quieter under full load. |
That game used to look so good, now it just looks like shit.
|
its not all about the graffix you video card whores! nvidia/ati have the wool over yer eyez
btw, i got a seagate barracuda drive, installed it last night, seems fine :) |
Im in the middle of selling up mosta my components, motherboards sold, one of my graphics cards is sold, sound cards sold, cpu will be going soon as well.

This thing was meant to release around the same time as halflife 2 and in the 2 years since that they did nothing but cut features instwed of add them. Back then the game was meant to be finished but they were granted mroe time to fix some bugs, in other words they didn't want to get bent over and get fucked by half life 2 sales. May 2005 was the release date and since that the games just been downgraded more and more, anything that made the game special has long since been removed. annoy: |
everyone knows its not the game that was initially promised and thats been made public for years now. Some of the die-hard fans need to get a grip on real life for a second and just enjoy what they can from whats now still a decent game.
You can't please everyone...especially die-hard fans who you can NEVER please. People take games far too seriously sometimes rolleyes: I just play to have fun, be scared, be entertained.... |

Absoloutely nothing. People may still buy it for the name but to me its not worthwhile anymore. It was at one time something unique, now its just a face in a crowd of clones. Theres far too much of this these days, developers promising this and that and one by one the promised things get removed or changed or moidified in some way, game devs just seem to love fucking people over by sucking them in with hype then delivering nothing. |
I suppose thats the way society is though I guess when it comes to selling products. Hype is such a vital tool in sucking people in and building up their hopes...
Thats why I've always rewarded dedication and original approaches to games where the publishers are as honest as possible. Goin off-topic, stumbled upon this video, not sure if its new but I've not seen the footage elsewhere of Crysis. its named 2007 so it can't be too old. Initial part of the vid we've seen but the 2nd half has some impressive visuals and physics http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=48761 This, imo, is going to set the new standard for FPS games, can't wait to play although I realise it will bring my current rig to its knees... annoy: |

Gamespot - 8.5 IGN - 8.2 Computer & Video Games - 8.0 PC Gamer - 87% EuroGamer - 8/10 bit-tech - 8 Gerv what video card you got? think my ati x850 256mb could run this baby? it should do........can't wait til some of the performance issues are ironed out. maybe i should sell my ati and buy a better one, know of the best agp card thats cheap. ive been with ati last few years now, maybe a shift back to nvidia is in order...tho ati cards you seem to get more value for money, they last longer imo |
x1900 pro agp miyagi. fastest agp out there. make sure you have 450w and 20a or more on the 12v rail
|
As ninty said fastest agp is the x1950 pro, though saying that ive been reading a lot of problems with certain versions all artifacting at stock clocks.
The "HIS 1950 turbo" apparently had or has a bug where the fan would only rotate at 40% so that left the card to cook hitting over 100c. My cards an x1900xt crossfire edition, it'll do me till i can afford to get a new system. Ony reason ati cards seem to last longer is they've had manufacturing problems with the new cards, thats behind them now though and theyre meant to be launching them in may. |
I had the sapphire version.
i read about problems with the vrm heatsink on the card. i wasn't having gpu cooling problems, but on occasion when i was messing around in ccc the screen would go blank and it would take a second to come back and say that the card stopped responding so the driver reset it or something. i didn't want to have to deal with that and i didn't want to spend the $300 so i took it back. maybe i'll buy it when it's more stable and the price drops because it would probably give me a bit more gaming time. |
I've been playing this for a couple days and it's more or less exactly what I expected. More RPG elements, the ability to go prone, less loading screens, and a much better faction system for some depth would be nice but it's a pretty solid game.
The firefights are enjoyable since the AI is half-intelligent making it difficult even on easy. Groups of mutants or humans can communicate with eachother and attempt to outmaneuver you. Exploring the large maps for items, whatever can be fun and you usually run into some type of trouble. Graphic options on medium/high with a lag here and there. p4 3.0 x800 1gig ram |
yo Ferich, how is yours playing? theres a fix out for people havin lag. you able to run Dynamic lighting? I'm only on static lighting but everything is on max in advanced settings. Seems to run great now. I had initially had dynamic on when I first tried the game and could only run 1fps! but now I get about 40-50 with this tweak. If you haven't, use static lighting after pasting this fix into your file, its in Shared Documents:
(don't bother pasting in the initial binded keys, skip past those and try the rest downwards. also you can change the resolution at the bottom if need be) Go into your User.alx file. It can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\STALKER-SHOC Replace all the text with the following: _preset Default ai_use_torch_dynamic_lights on unbindall bind jump kSPACE bind crouch kRCONTROL bind crouch_toggle kSLASH bind accel kLSHIFT bind sprint_toggle kX bind forward kUP bind back kDOWN bind lstrafe kLEFT bind rstrafe kRIGHT bind llookout kQ bind rlookout kE bind cam_zoom_in kADD bind cam_zoom_out kSUBTRACT bind torch kL bind night_vision kN bind wpn_1 k1 bind wpn_2 k2 bind wpn_3 k3 bind wpn_4 k4 bind wpn_5 k5 bind wpn_6 k6 bind artefact k7 bind wpn_next kY bind wpn_fire mouse1 bind wpn_zoom mouse2 bind wpn_reload kR bind wpn_func kV bind wpn_firemode_prev k9 bind wpn_firemode_next k0 bind pause kPAUSE bind drop kG bind use kF bind scores kTAB bind chat kCOMMA bind chat_team kPERIOD bind screenshot kF12 bind quit kESCAPE bind console kGRAVE bind inventory kI bind buy_menu kB bind skin_menu kO bind team_menu kU bind active_jobs kP bind map kM bind contacts kH bind vote_begin kF5 bind vote kF6 bind vote_yes kF7 bind vote_no kF8 bind speech_menu_0 kC bind speech_menu_1 kZ bind use_bandage kRBRACKET bind use_medkit kLBRACKET cam_inert 0. cam_slide_inert 0.25 cl_cod_pickup_mode 1 cl_dynamiccrosshair on g_always_run on g_autopickup on g_backrun on g_corpsenum 10 g_eventdelay 0 g_game_difficulty gd_stalker hud_crosshair on hud_crosshair_dist off mm_mm_net_srv_dedicated off mm_net_con_publicserver off mm_net_con_spectator 20 mm_net_con_spectator_on off mm_net_srv_gamemode st_deathmatch mm_net_srv_maxplayers 32 mm_net_srv_name BLACKBOX mm_net_srv_reinforcement_type 1 mm_net_weather_rateofchange 1. mouse_invert off mouse_sens 0.32 net_cl_icurvesize 0 net_cl_icurvetype 0 net_cl_interpolation 0. net_cl_log_data off net_cl_pending_lim 3 net_cl_update_rate 30 net_dedicated_sleep 5 net_sv_log_data off net_sv_pending_lim 3 net_sv_update_rate 30 ph_frequency 75.00000 ph_iterations 24 r1_dlights on r1_dlights_clip 10. r1_glows_per_frame 16 r1_lmodel_lerp 0.1 r1_pps_u -1. r1_pps_v 0. r1_ssa_lod_a 64. r1_ssa_lod_b 48. r1_tf_mipbias 0. r2_aa off r2_aa_break 0.800000,0.500000,0.000000 r2_aa_kernel 0.5 r2_aa_weight 0.250000,0.250000,0.000000 r2_allow_r1_lights off r2_gi off r2_gi_clip 0.001 r2_gi_depth 1 r2_gi_photons 16 r2_gi_refl 0.9 r2_gloss_factor 1.4 r2_ls_bloom_fast off r2_ls_bloom_kernel_b 0.7 r2_ls_bloom_kernel_g 3. r2_ls_bloom_kernel_scale 0.7 r2_ls_bloom_speed 100. r2_ls_bloom_threshold 0.001 r2_ls_depth_bias -0.0003 r2_ls_depth_scale 1.00001 r2_ls_dsm_kernel 0.7 r2_ls_psm_kernel 0.7 r2_ls_squality 0.5 r2_ls_ssm_kernel 0.7 r2_mblur 0. r2_parallax_h 0.04 r2_slight_fade 0.05 r2_ssa_lod_a 96. r2_ssa_lod_b 64. r2_sun on r2_sun_depth_far_bias -0.00001 r2_sun_depth_far_scale 1. r2_sun_depth_near_bias 0.00001 r2_sun_depth_near_scale 1. r2_sun_details off r2_sun_focus on r2_sun_lumscale 1. r2_sun_lumscale_amb 0.5 r2_sun_lumscale_hemi 1. r2_sun_near 12. r2_sun_near_border 0.75 r2_sun_tsm on r2_sun_tsm_bias -0.01 r2_sun_tsm_proj 0.3 r2_tf_mipbias -3. r2_tonemap on r2_tonemap_adaptation 1. r2_tonemap_amount 0.7 r2_tonemap_lowlum 0.0001 r2_tonemap_middlegray 0.6 r2_wait_sleep 0 r2_zfill off r2_zfill_depth 0.5 r2em 2. r__detail_density 0.44 r__geometry_lod 1.2 r__supersample 4 r__tf_aniso 12 renderer renderer_r2 rs_c_brightness 1. rs_c_contrast 1. rs_c_gamma 1.2 rs_fullscreen on rs_refresh_60hz off rs_stats off rs_v_sync off rs_vis_distance 1. snd_acceleration on snd_cache_size 32 snd_efx on snd_targets 24 snd_volume_eff 0.8 snd_volume_music 1. sv_anomalies_enabled 1 sv_anomalies_length 3 sv_artefact_respawn_delta 30 sv_artefact_stay_time 3 sv_artefacts_count 10 sv_auto_team_balance 0 sv_auto_team_swap 1 sv_bearercantsprint 1 sv_client_reconnect_time 60 sv_console_update_rate 1 sv_dedicated_server_update_rate 100 sv_dmgblockindicator 1 sv_dmgblocktime 0 sv_forcerespawn 0 sv_fraglimit 10 sv_friendly_indicators 0 sv_friendly_names 0 sv_friendlyfire 1. sv_hail_to_winner_time 7000 sv_pda_hunt 1 sv_pending_wait_time 10000 sv_reinforcement_time 0 sv_remove_corpse 1 sv_remove_weapon 1 sv_returnplayers 1 sv_rpoint_freeze_time 0 sv_shieldedbases 1 sv_spectr_firsteye 1 sv_spectr_freefly 0 sv_spectr_freelook 1 sv_spectr_lookat 1 sv_spectr_teamcamera 1 sv_statistic_collect 1 sv_statistic_save_auto 0 sv_timelimit 0 sv_vote_enabled 1 sv_vote_participants 0 sv_vote_quota 0.51 sv_vote_time 1. sv_warm_up 0 texture_lod 2 vid_mode 1280x1024 This game is fantastic, only just installed it an hour ago, where do you find the first weapons in the stalker campsite? You have a pistol that you can access after you talk to that wolf guy. Just scroll up or hit 2.
|
why is this game only $40 cdn? not that i'm complaining...
|
Not sure, bought mine for £17.99 which is a bargain, depends where you look. Other places are normal price.
shit its 2.30am and I wanna keep playin. Gerv, you running it on max dynamic settings? the lightning looks damn nice and I only have it on static too |
Havn't really mesed with it much, so far the performance seems to be pretty jumpy in places.
|
Since Crysis was mentioned, i just felt like saying... This will be the second time crytech has made me upgrade my PC, and i was not let down the last time. This looks to be 10x's the awesome, and im tempted to jerk off to the screens. Basically im going to pay whatever i need to hardware wise, to play crysis with all the eye candy on.
|
crysis is the game everyone is waiting for, I think its going to be the next step up in gaming.
As for Stalker, new patches released today, many many fixes (about 60+): Get the U.S patch here: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/STALK ... ONLY;77220 or NoN-U.S here: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/STALK ... Wide;77221 Note: this patch wipes your save games. I've only just started so suits me fine. Off into the Zone I go dance: edit: the patch fixed a sound issue I was having, WOOP! rock: |
