Airsoft

Was in VA last week and stopped at a gun store to get some stuff for my AR. While chatting with the guy at the store, he showed me a gas operated Glock 17 airsoft pistol. The gun looked like an original Glock and even had a metal slide. He loaded a full mag and let me try it on a cardboard target. Fucker was full auto !! What a blast.

Anyhoo, wondering who here shoots airsoft. I want to get into it and would prefer to go with the gas operated system over the spring system. What do you guys have and what do you recommend?

Re: Airsoft

used to be into it alot, might get into later in my life again, its a blast if you play with the right people..i was playing with current swat team members and ex-marines and it was great.. especially to see how a group of 8 well trained guys can take out 30 of us shitty guys...

but anyway, for pistols, you pretty much have to go gas, the spring ones are just for plinking around really (and killing bats if you live in this frat house). but if you are actually going to play, the pistol will be your sidearm in most every match (unless of course you are playing a pistol match).

Your primary weapon should be an AEG which uses a battery (usually held in the stock or grip) to drive a motor which pulls back a piston on a spring automatically. The selector switch is fully functional on these, so, depending on the model of gun, say on an m4, you can switch from safe to semi-auto, to auto. some even have the 3-round burst which is cool.

There are only a few gas operated rifle models out there, atleast when i played.

I do airsoft. Just bought a new gun, it should be on its way from Hong Kong sometime early next week. Full metal Marine M5 RAS with M3 scope and Harris bipod. biggrin:

Current gun is mainly for indoors fun (MP5SD2 with Aimpoint), plus my trusty sidearm; My G17 with metal slide, metal barrel and reinforced spring guide. Ill post a bunch of pics asap, if anyone's interested.

thatll work just as well for outdoors, it just wont be as "realistic" looking. Assuming (maybe incorrectly) its TM, all of their stock guns will shoot with about the same accuracy from the m16 down to the mp5, the longer barrels only make for a tiny accuracy difference. i dont really know about ICS or the other companies

You, wrongly assumed. biggrin:

Its a CA and I know it works outdoors, but it just doesnt keep the same standard as an armalite when it comes to 20m+. The places we play are mainly big gravelpits or huge semiforrested areas, so that new G&P M5 RAS will come real handy, seeing as Im gonna start playing as marksman. rock:

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 05-10-2007 04:14 PM

A forum for North East airsoft. They have links to places from Virginia to the top of Maine. I suggest you give it a look over, read up on a bunch of threads and learn what you want/ need. They also have a Buy sell trade section where you can find some good deals on Used equipment.

Tystnad 05-11-2007 02:16 PM

LOL at having to use orange tips!

I agree with both unknown and Milla, go for a used gun first. Thats what I did to get hooked. biggrin:

Other good Hong Kong stores:

Anyhoo, thanks for the tips. Looks like i'll be plunking down some moola for some toy guns. The real ones need a break !!

Milla 05-12-2007 05:31 PM

What it looked like Originally.

And the guy who built this Sig, his airsoft hand guns are usually pretty amazing and expensive. This just looks so real.

Also Sgt. Paine, use .20g 6mm bbs with that. With any quality airsoft gun you get, IE not from walmart use .20g

Arkan 05-13-2007 04:10 PM

Milla, thats some nice shit you got there.

Milla 05-13-2007 04:14 PM

Thank you, you should see my M16 sniper variant biggrin:

I havent been into it much lately since I got my car, i plan on maybe selling some stuff, but defiantly not my M4. If you want to buy some gear or something from me let me know, i have shit laying all around, and i guarantee most of it is new or used one time so its all in excellent shape.

Sniper101 05-13-2007 05:20 PM

might get a new gun soon. (I have the UHC Super 9 pro)
any suggestions?

currently looking at this one
http://shortyusa.com/index.html?RID=4328

Edit: this one looks "better"
http://store.matrixbb.com/servlet/-strs ... PS2/Detail

jujumantb 05-13-2007 05:41 PM

those 2 are the exact same model

Sniper101 05-13-2007 05:50 PM

i know, hence the "better"
the diff is one is almost $100 less with all the goodies

m00nraker 05-13-2007 06:55 PM

So, someone tell me how you exactly play. I know there are different scenarios and such, but how does one know when hes 'killed'

In Paintball its pretty obvious when you have been hit, but how does it work in airsoft? Is it based on the honor system or something?

Milla 05-13-2007 07:03 PM

Airsoft is based off the honor system, you can feel it when you get hit,its just not quite as painful as paintball...unless you play with people whose guns shoot upwards of 400 FPS. Getting hit bare skin leaves nasty welts, a buddy of mine had his tooth knocked out turned the corner got hit in the face. Of course he was playing against our County's SWAT team after hours in the movie theater.

Chronic Diarrhea 05-22-2007 05:23 PM

No, don't, that's awesome. You're not going to see too many SPRs lying around (or Mk 12, or Mod 1, w/e you Marines call it).

Milla 05-22-2007 05:25 PM

Meh, I need money to fund my computer upgrade project. I really dont want to sell it, and i'll probably regret doing it.

Stammer 05-22-2007 07:55 PM

Just got this yesterday, haven't gotten the gas for it yet.
