So yeah

Got my Prodrive (a British company who builds the WRC cars for Subaru) exhaust put on my car, I don't think it sounds ricey, but knowing all you fucks in here will be like "omfg rice" IMO Subaru Boxer motors don't sound ricey. Without further a-do here it is.

ftp://gcstudentweb.gcc.vccs.edu/patsosb ... t_clip.mp4

PS. lol @ water shooting on camera from me cleaning the exhaust and not drying it. Money shot ftw.

This clip doesnt do justice, it sounds a lot better in person, sounds really loud cause the camera is uber close. Its not that loud in person.

If the car is still without a spoiler and you put this on, i may have to hurt you in ways you have yet to imagine.

ninty 05-10-2007 07:00 PM

sounds pretty good milla. don't think it sounds rice, but i'd have to hear it when it's actually driving.

Short Hand 05-11-2007 02:35 AM

need drive by nig. say a nice down shift into 2nd, pulling to 4th. ( i know mine sounds best when doing so )

The good thing about this exhaust is there is no droning sound when you let off the gas on the highway like you hear really annoyingly inside most ricers.

Im getting a spoiler for my B-day in July negro, relax, but there is one thing i wanna know, what do you think looks better.

This spoiler off the STi Limited (not the one over the rear windshield, but the one on the trunk)

Or the regular WRX spoiler:

TonyMontana 05-11-2007 11:28 AM

the raised WRX spoiler ftw

Miscguy 05-11-2007 09:49 PM

Sadly, i must say the raised, WRX spoiler looks better and is what i completly expect on your vehicle. I say sadly because i do prefer a more subdued look. But it is truly much better.

I like the first spoiler milla, I have yet to see a subaru around where I live with that type of spoiler. That shit looks clean man! rock:

I often wonder why guys buy a car then try and make it sound like something its not. It is what it is, A compact car with a little nothin motor. If you want the sound and the horsepower, buy the car with the ass to make that sound on its own. Hint, if it only has one pipe it aint worth the trouble or expence. It was ment for basic transportation, just use it for that.

If ya cant afford to run with the big dogs why bother gettin off the porch. Its a waste of time and money and makes ya look bad in the process. Guys with the true horsepower machines laugh at guys who do this kind of thing, as they drive by thinking how cool they are. With that car your better off driving by unnoticed.

Im not trying to start anything here, Im just telling you the reality of this kind of waste of money for basicly nothing.

Whatever the hell that means, But butch did grow up during the muscle car days and owned, 68 camero 396 big block, 69 corvette, 57 chevy 427 big block, 69 gto 400 big block and did more then my fair share of street racing for money so I feel somewhat qualified to voice an opinion on what a car should sound like.

It was the same then as it is now, back then there were guys who couldnt run with the big dogs so they jacked up their 73 nova with a six cylinder, put some wheels on it and changed the exaust. Then they tried to hang around with the real muscle cars and pretty much got laughed at for their trouble.

Times aint changed that much. Guys and thier cars are still the same. The term all show and no go works the same now as it did then. A crappy little 4 cylinder car is always goinna be just that EVEN WITH A SPOILER ON THE BACK!!!! muffler + spoiler does not add up to fast or even impressive. If you want the badass car dont buy the one that sounds like a lawn mower and try and make it something different.

Save the money and buy the right car to start with!!!

Here's another old sayin...you cant polish a turd no matter how hard you try.

anti 05-12-2007 04:33 PM

that's a pretty cool story and all butch, but what would happen when you took a corner at high speeds in those cars?

oh yeah, a big thumbs down to street racing oOo:

Its not really a waste of money, you grew up in a totally different generation. I mean you can find a WRX or a Honda or any import really beat a modded muscle car, it just depends how much you want to put in to it. Just because I put a small exhaust on which is barely audible from far away, but loud enough to i can actually hear the motor rumble i see nothing wrong with that, its not like i have an obnoxious exhaust on. I also enjoy the gas mileage and the fact that even for a small 4 cylinder it sure does get up and move, but I bet if you even drove a WRX or an STi you would see how much more fun it is to drive.

I mean just for reference

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKymaKcNq80

And just because Muscle cars are awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hjvN0uBezU

4 cylinders can be fast, but like you say,. its all about how much money you want to spend.

And you know your a red neck if...you cant drive

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGHx6Ymi5H8

I mean no offense butch, i'm not trying to say you dont know what you are talking about, and im not trying to say 4 cyl. are better than V8's, i for one would love to restore an old Camaro or Charger or any old muscle car, but the fact of the matter is, you don't know about the power some 4cyl can make for a couple thousand dollars. Than again, the WRX's weren't designed for straight line racing, but rather auto crossing, thats where a real race is, when you have to spend money on breaks, suspension, not just motor parts and transmission parts to go fast in a straight line.

butch 05-12-2007 08:44 PM

I agree with ya there although theres a lot more to it then just engine and transmission, My thing is taking an old car through a complete restore. My next project is to build from the ground up a 34 ford 3 window coupe. A lot of work and money goes into a project like that. Someplace in the 40,000 dollar range by the time its done. Most guys who do serious restoration projects do complete suspension changes to increase handling capabilities.

I watched all your videos and am not really impressed. Best time I saw was 13 and change. That would be about right for a built 4 cylinder. Thats not bad but as quarter times go its pretty sad. Like you say we'er talking about 2 different sports really. But the real point of my post was unless you really going to go all the way with you ride then why bother. I would think suspension and horsepower would be the place to start dropping the cash. The spoiler and pipes are just basicly cosmetic. When your serious about building the badass ride it always starts with the power plant and anything else that makes it go faster. At that point then worry about cosmetics.

What I said about the all show and no go is absolutely true. I wouldnt even bother unless you have the cash to take it all the way!!!

As for my project, here's a video of a 34 ford and the general idea of what im shooting for and what I think a ride should sound like...also note the time after the run:

http://www.sgttech.us/butch/34ford.wmv

Here's the motor I plan to buy, and build it from there:

http://www.sgttech.us/butch/350425horse.wmv

By the way, its nice to be able to exchange ideas about cars and do it without a bunch name callin and other bullshit that goes on around here, good luck with your ride. Maybe post up some videos as you get further along. Ill do the same as my project moves along.I should be ordering the frame and suspension in the next few months. Hope to have it completed in a year or so as long as the money holds out.

I know, stock STis run low 13's. With engine management from http://www.cobbtuning.com and a turboback exhaust, its not odd for an STi to run a mid 12, and you are talking about spending about maybe 1200 (if you buy a used turbo back) and getting yourself about 40 HP to the wheels. Not to shabby.

What I really want is for my father and I to build an old Muscle car, he has been talking about doing it for years, but he has more things to worry about, such as finish rebuilding parts of our house, so the money to put towards an old car is kind of out of the question, because they aren't cheap anymore. I would love to build a Camaro or a Challenger.

Sex on wheels.

I went to a car show last night, and i just threw my car in for fun, I was basically the only import there lol. It was all like 2007 SVT Cobra Mustangs, old Camaros, old Mustangs, and a few of those Hot Rods you are looking to build, I should go next friday and take some pictures for you.

It's good talking cars butch, i'm always down for a good car chat. I love pretty much everything, V8's, 4cyl, auto crossing, drag racing, etc etc, I wish i knew more about mechanics though, thats one thing that I would love to do, but its not like I want to start ripping my motor apart and rebuilding it when its my Daily driver lol. PM me anytime and we'll talk, I look forward to your project, and Arkans is coming along nicely.
