Is America close to Civil War?
I read a question posted by somebody on a political forum and it got me thinking. To what extent is America at risk of a second civil war?
Personally, I think it's highly unlikely, but not impossible. America's structure of civility and governmental order is far more advanced than what it was from the time period of 1820-1861. We do not have civil unrest at this moment, but some of the current issues bring about the same level of emotion as slavery did back then. I think that if it were to happen, it would be the cause of an increase in governmental control over the will of the individual. |

Well I do declare... -Bob |
I think its pretty much impossible.

People are not willing to fight for their country or what they thing is right anymore. There won't be a revolution or civil war unless something drastic happens. This goes for Canada as well.
|
civil war will occur, between whites and latinos
|
HAHAHAHA Civil war. That's fucking hilarious. We are all slaves to the fucking dollar. And the sad thing is too many of us like it that way.

American's have no reason to "rise up", no matter what the protesting shitbags would have you think. There will be no revolution because the MAJORITY of American citizens are fat, well paid, and happy with their HDTV's.

You forget that the world only cares about whats in it for their own self interest. Which in all cases is money. The world will tolerate America's imperialism as long as their wallets are fat. GTFO Your theory is flawed, please stop making Canadians sound ignorant. |

The aspect of America's world involvement is the fact that so many nations rely on the strength of our economy to survive. I don't like this, and many other politicians don't like this either, both on the Democratic and Republican side. It's easy for people to forget that the world is very hypocritical when they denounce our decision to get involved in other nations' affairs (not looking at this as Iraq, but our historical involvement with all nations). Those same nations then get mad at us when we do decide to get involved in foreign affairs, even though they desperately depend on us. I would like to see us say, "screw you all, deal with your own problems," but we can't do that, simply because we are the most powerful nation in the world. The rest of the world acts as if they don't want to see us intervene with foreign affairs, but if we were to completely pull back (and pulling back refers not only to Iraq or Afghanistan in a military sense, but everywhere militarily and financially), people would be outraged over it. As a nation that has the world's most powerful economy, we have a duty to look out for our fellow man.
Now you can argue whether or not we make wise decisions regarding foreign affairs, but don't put partisan politics into it. I hate politics, I hate to see where both parties are heading. There are going to be blunders, as well as successes, in regard to foreign relations. There always have been, despite who holds the office of the Presidency. |
