Same, dude AMD processors and memory are cheap now. I plan on going with a X2 5600 |

WHY do you want to stick with amd? The core 2 duo fucks anything amd has up the ass while fisting its sister and fingering its mother. Amd's only hope is the barcelona core due out this year, the phenom processor range. After that intel have the penryn core out on 45nm which will more than likely once again give them the peformance crown. Seriously buying amd at this point in time is totally retarded, the lowest end core 2 duo with a slight overclock (1.6 clocked to 2ghz) is comparable to amd's best cpu on the market at present (3ghz). I'll stress this again do NOT buy an amd setup as presently they get totally decimated by intel in performance and that lead only increases when the core 2's get overclocked. for anyone not in the know assassins creed is ps3 and 360 only. |
Well I hate intel and Intel is very expensive.
|
C2D E6600 is probably only a little more expensive than an X2 5600+.
I was in your boat a while back. When I did my last build it was all AMD, cause they were actually competing with Intel. Then I just followed AMD and know their motherboards and shit, and knew nothing about Intel. But now AMD has kind of dropped off so I have been looking at Intel again and getting familiar with their mobos, and i'd say right now, in my limited knowledge when compared to gervis, the E6600 is the best deal out there. I'll probably build in the fall and have to decide then which way to go. Depends if AMD's new processors are out by then. |

Buy this cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115003 couple it with a good mobo and gfx card and you won't look back. |
lol @ bias about computer companies
i go with whatever works best, not what brand name it has |

I plan on getting a 8800, as the ATi card seems to not compare. But the 8800 is to expensive for me still. strv you suck at life anyway. |

Review of it here, you can see that the lower clocked core2 is is just as fast as amd's 2.8ghz fx62.

Alright lets just say i never plan on overclocking....still think i should go with intel?
From those benchmark test it would seem a 5600+ would outperform the Core 2 6400 |
Quote:
5600+ afaik is 2.8ghz, same as the fx62 in those benchmarks. |
Quote:
haha my 3500+ is doing decent against the big dogs. |
I dont know gerv, reading the review of the 5600+ on that site it seems to be pretty good, probably tied with your core 2 duo. (not over clocked that is) And its only 175 dollars which in Pounds is damn cheap.
|
If you want my advice, do what im doing. Waiting till the new cores come out later this year and buying whatevers best. ddr 3 ram is already on the horizon and some new intel mobo's are supporting it.
Just save your money till later this year. |

While were on the subject of hardware i have to say the new nvidia control panel is absoloutely shite.
Kinda reminds me of my last dfi motherboard, all these fucking options leaving me scratching my head. They seem to be doing some dodgy shit with these drivers, in bf2 for instance in the external cam the hind helo seems to drop in level of deetail long before my x1900 ever did. Performance is pretty good though using those settings in dod sauce http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gerald.mar ... he0002.jpg eek: |
My buddy has the 8800 with a 5200+ and i watched him play BF 2142, and it ran real smooth with everything cranked up. Looked real good.

Id still have my 2900 if my psu coulda handled it. cry: |
assassians creed comes out mid september
|
mmmm dod sauce.
ddr3 ram this year will limit you to intel only though, right? amd boards won't support ddr3 till next year i think... |

Was testing this gts against the results i had earlier with the x1900 and 2900xt, all at 1920x1200 4xaa 16xaf, 2900 seems to beat out the gts most of the time, even when its overclocked. All on vista 64:
