German Police Run Over Green Peace Protestors With a Speedboat

Members of the environmental pressure group Greenpeace took to the seas in an attempt to deliver a message to the Baltic coast hotel where the summit is taking place.

But one of the boats was eventually capsized by chasing police. Three Greenpeace members were injured, the others taken to shore and arrested before reaching their target.

Meanwhile back on dry land, protestors were still getting wet. Water canon was used to clear access routes blocked by hundreds of anti-G8 demonstrators. Several injuries were reported on both sides, none of them serious. Some arrests were made but far fewer than the 160 detained yesterday.

Demonstrations have been banned around the 12-kilometre fence separating the summit and the protest groups. But that has not deterred thousands continuing their sit-in blockade of the entrances to Heiligendamm.



Pity they didn't have a MTB or U boat handy... I hate hippies.

Most people probably don't know why they don't like Greenpeace but they do know how it's painted by politicians and popular media - ala all this hippy rubbish. Granted I'm sure you could find plenty of bizarre things GP members have done but the same can be said for any large organization.

i second that...and to add to it, the ones that protest the war at the funerals of fallen soldiers. BTW NH it signing in a bill that will outlaw that...but you wait, someone will make a class-action suit out of it saying it is unconstitutional (which, sadly, he would be right)

Im not actually a hippie, I'm politically moderate...The fact that you think I am a hippie places you so far up the tree of redneck-ignorance, the only people above you are retards and dead people.

i think the dude who started greenpeace left because he said the group was becoming too radical in their tactics. some of the messages are fine, yeah, but any time you hear about them is when the do something stupid. maybe they have to do stupid things to be heard, otherwise you'd never of heard of them due to what the media covers. so perhaps their tactics are a byproduct of our society.

Why did people hijack airplanes? because they knew when they landed there would be a camera crew and their message would be broadcast around the world. Pretty easy way to get your message heard. Same thing with greenpeace. Do outrageous stupid shit, get on the news. It works like that for everything.

Martin Luther King Jr. used that tactic pretty well also. I believe he held a protest the week before the beat down, and the police did nothing, so it didn't make the news. So he went to that other place, knew the cops would beat the shit out of them which they did and that made the news and everyone in the nation was shocked. Civil rights through beatings and the media. Simple idea really, but effective.

I dont think that every member of greenpeace is going around doing stuff to make the news....Its a pretty massive organisation, if that were the case we would hear alot more about greenpeace....The only stuff I hear that's radical is the tactics they use against whalers, which I agree with personally.

The fact that people lump them in with any protesters who are of the liberal persuasion shows how stupid and ignorant people are, and that's what Im saying here. Im not saying that greenpeace has never done anything wrong in their entire existence because im speaking for hundreds of thousands of people. I do know that they're not going around ruining soldier's funerals. I also know that all their causes are for good - and if we didnt have people like them around, then alot of assholes would get away with some serious environment-ruining shit - Without any kind of resistence.

This is our planet too, and for me greenpeace represent that. I think that's a good thing - Why would you want to align yourself as an enemy of that?

It's not like we're talking about PETA here...
