It happened again.

so I can see my car outside my office all day, I stared at it several times throughout the day wanting to just go home 4:30 just onemore hour! . well 5:30 finally roles around and I walk out to my car and WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

my back windshield IMPLODED AGAIN. I was so fuckin pissed. I called up the company who replaced it 16 months ago and told them the situation

"did someone try to break into the car or throw something thru it?"

"No its in the back lot of a highly trafficked business building its been parked all day there was nothing wrong with the windshield and no one has touched it. It exploded in the parking lot while parked."

I mean it was only like 84 today I was so pissed. It has to be with heat and pressure or something

anyway they are sending someone out tomm to look at it and determine from the impact point(there isnt one) if it falls under their lifetime limited warranty and they should replace it for free.

we are also writing pontiac to find out whaqt the FUCK is going on thats twice the windshield has imploded all over the car seat and back. Thank god my daughter wasnt in it she would have been completely covered.

yea my wife sent an inquiry to pontiac with photos from both occasions.

Ill be damned if im paying 200 bucks again someone else is taking care of that. I have NEVER seen it before in my life and now twice in 16 months?

I mean this time we didnt even close a door to cause a surge of pressure. the thing just POPPED parked in the parking lot

Whatada 06-11-2007 10:09 PM

You wouldn't have to worry about your daughter. I think windshield glass is made to fracture in a way so that it doesn't cut when broken. I'm probably wrong. I dunno.

that shit sucks though. fix dat shit.

[DAS REICH] Blitz 06-11-2007 10:12 PM

i've never seen a windshield implode... seems video worthy

I assure you that is not a known issue of pontiac Sunfires. (have you checked to see if the pressure releif gate is blocked in the trunk ?). It is on the passenger side part of the trunk on the wall, just pull th carpet off and look. IF it is blocked, then this explains your issue.

Coleman 06-12-2007 12:28 AM

make a sunroof by cutting a huge hole in it with a buzz saw. problem solved.

On J-Body's (Sunfires/Cavaliers) all it is is a rectangle shaped gate, divided into 8 sections, with a flap on the outside. (THis prevents water from coming in)

Nyck 06-12-2007 06:52 AM

I have a grand am...any difference

ninty 06-12-2007 08:08 AM

Yeah, since this has happened more than once, you might want to try and see if they will install laminated glass in the back. I doubt most cars have laminated rear glass, but it may be worth it, especially with your kid. No glass shards if it happens to explode, and may end up being stronger that just regular tempered glass.

we bitched up a storm about it because it SHOULD be replaced for free under the warranty but they would not budge going up the corporate ladder.

we ended up setting for replacement for 100 bucks(though were still pissed). they are coming out tomorrow to fix it.

1080jibber 06-12-2007 03:18 PM

i knew a guy that had that happen to him a couple of times too, the first time his car was parked in the parking lot. and then again when he was driving.
both times it happend with the back window, old dodge caravan.

it sucks cause you have to pay for that shit, fuck, even if someone smashed it you would still have to pay for it.

Zoner 06-12-2007 03:24 PM

I've never heard of this happening to anyone I know. $100 is alright, though...but it still licks anus.

Nyck 06-12-2007 03:49 PM

think were gonna get the glass coverage on our ins

no deductible and free replacement for like 8.50 more amonth

Arkan 06-12-2007 05:04 PM

Nyck,

Do you think if you tinted the windows and kept one of those reflectors inside when it's parked that it may cut down on the heat inside? Sucks but perhaps you should leave one of the windows cracked a bit to let out hot expanding air when you park it. I would be pissed too. Glad the kid wasn't inside but then again, if she were, what kind of parent would you be leaving your kid in a parked car while you worked? oOo: lol

Pyro 06-12-2007 05:24 PM

my grand am has been perfect

I guess they import all the good ones to canada.

nyck, why not just invest in some tint for your ride? They say it helps in an accident so i think it may prevent your window from shattering as well
