At long last, we are delighted to confirm the impending Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta. The ETQW Closed Beta has been going extremely well and yielding excellent results. We want to give more people the opportunity to give us feedback on the game so we’re going to open a Public Beta with 60,000 slots available. This way we’ll be able to test many more combinations of hardware, RAM, CPU, graphics card, drivers etc. than we’ve been able to ourselves, and also get a better idea of how the game plays for the general gaming public. The Public Beta build will consist of a single map named “Sewer”, which is part of ETQW’s Pacific Campaign. Set in Japan, the map revolves around a Strogg base hidden in, well, a sewer. It’s an interesting mix of outdoor and indoor, vehicle and infantry combat, deployables and counter-deployables and good old-fashioned FPS combat. If you’d like to help us finish ETQW, we’d really appreciate your participation. If you want to just play a game for free you may find it a frustrating experience. This Public Beta is not the Demo - it’s not the finished game, but an opportunity to get feedback from a large group of people while testing stability and performance on a wider range of hardware combinations. The Public Beta will also collect some information on your hardware configuration, so you shouldn’t apply unless you’re comfortable with that. When the Public Beta opens, participants will be sent their unique license code that is required for play. As we don’t have the infrastructure necessary to download tens of thousands of clients, we’ve asked FilePlanet to help us distribute these license codes along with the beta clients. A fixed number of beta slots are being set aside for Fileplanet subscribers, so if you already have a FilePlanet subscription, you’re in the front of the queue. The rest of the slots will then go to those with free FilePlanet accounts. To be clear: You don’t have to pay anyone anything to participate in the ETQW Public Beta. It’s up to you if you want to pay FilePlanet for use of the improved download services they provide. We will reveal more details on the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta, including the official start date, in the near future. Hope to see you all online very soon! |
What'll make or break this game is how much it plays like a quake game, this is supposodly a whole new take on a "quake" labelled game so with some luck it doesn't turn out to be quake 3 or 4 + vehicles and larger maps. Problem is the beta testing at present its with quakeheads who will most likely be demanding that it play exactly like a quake 3 or 4 just so they can (as usual) have a headstart on everyone else.
Did that with quake 4 and look what it got them, a game thats multiplayer mode bombed even quicker than doom 3's. |

i will try to get a free key but i dont have luck with this kind of stuff |
may I be the first to ask - where is the 360 demo?
|
Heard from a buddy of mine who close beta tested it, he said it's not so good.
|
Well heres some beta gameplay
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pJ9S9KN0ku4 bounce bounce bunce bounce..... Yet another fucking id branded game where they fall back on the same snorefest gameplay from about 1997. I don't even want to think how the game will play on a console if the final product incorperates this shit. So much for this supposodly being competition to the battlefield series, its gonna attract nothing but hardcore quake fans who will just dominate the game online and fuck over anyone else, essentially this game is quake 4 + vehicles + bigger maps, and with the speed he was getting from strafejumping i don't even know why vehicles are in the game. With the way quake 4 flopped you'd think they might have realised by now that their mp gameplay needs a serious overhaul, guess the hints not sunk in yet. rolleyes: |
wtf it looks shit, which is good because means less of a reason to upgrade my rig.

Yup, well to me it seems ID are pandering to their fanbase yet again. Quakeplayers will tell you that strafejumping lets them move around the map faster, oddly enough the infantry in QW have an infinite sprint so theres no excuse for this bullshit. I don't get why ID are afraid to change their gameplay, its like they have to tongue the balls of the few people that still play quake 2 and 3. newsflash, quake 2 was released in 1997, quake 3 got released in 1999. Thats 10 years ago for quake 2, even quake 3 pretty much retained the quake 2 gameplay. Then quake 4 got released in 2005 and STILL had the same fucking gameplay despite one of the designers saying he felt quake 3 was a failure as anyone new to the game got their ass handed to them on servers because the multi was practically the same as quake 2. Now theyre bringing out quake wars 2 years after quake 4's online flopped harder than a sumo falling from 500 feet and theyre apparently STILL sticking to the same fucking gameplay. oOo: oOo: I Just don't get it, it seems id are content to let their little hardcore fanbase have a leg up on anyone new by having the same lame gameplay in multiplayer. If this is the case then quakewars can go suck a donkeys schlong, i doubt may people are gonna buy a game when theres a hardcore fanbase that have been playing pretty much the same style of game since 1997. The beta then the demo should be a pretty good indication of how this is gonna play out. As of now im pretty pissed that theyre gearing this game towards a very small minority who seemingly are afraid to try new games for fear of actually having to learn a new style of gameplay. cunts |
looks boring as fuck

[quote="Chronic Diarrhea":d084b]Gerv, allow Insurgency to heal your strafe-jumping woes soon.
sleeping:[/quote:d084b] Nothing to do with strafejumping "woes", more the fact they advertised this game with 2 trailers showing off what looked like team orientated combat and now looks like being another 1997-style 50mph bounce along fragathon. annoy: Whens that insurgancy meant to be coming anyway, still months end? |

Looks like the first load of beta keys for quakewars go out the middle of this week
[quote:2d950]The best part, and I've been waiting five paragraphs to say this, is that Day 1 of key distribution is currently scheduled for the middle of this week. That's right, the first batch of keys for the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Public Beta will go out in just a few days! FilePlanet's ETQW sub-site will be going up that same day. Now why are we spreading these out over several days instead of throwing all 60,000 keys out at once? Simple: We want to make sure that as many people as possible get the chance to obtain a key and we feel that scheduling a predetermined number of keys to go out each day is the best way to do this. We're also going to be gradually ramping up the number of available keys with each passing day, so as time goes on, more keys are passed out per day. This allows us to steadily increase the load on our back-end infrastructure, making sure we can effectively test that. Of course, a multiplayer beta is useless if there are no servers to play on. Towards that end, we've been working closely with a select number of Game Server Providers to get servers for the Public Beta up in North America, Europe, and Australia. We will continue to work with GSPs around the world to make sure Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars servers can be found in every major territory when the game ships. [/quote:2d950] Already a link on fileplanet to dload it, at an amazingly lame 20k\sec rolleyes: http://www.fileplanet.com/122489/downlo ... ars-Client |

|
that link doesn't work for me, jus sends me straight to the 'subscribe or die' section. I'm a free member, will i be able to get the client and possibly a key this or next week?

Well ive been playing it for a while today, graphics are actually pretty nice and some of the scenery in the map looks good.
The game has no stamina and infinite sprint, you can also hop around as much as you like so you can guess how farsical the infantry combat looks, its more of a game of who can hop about like a tool and get a few lucky hits in than anything. Imo the infantry combat also feels a bit "floaty" as well. For some ultimately retarded reason any armoured vehicle gets affected by almost every weapon, if theres a tank driving by you can shoot it with a pistol or smg and it does damage, the damage a smg does is pretty extensive considering its firing bullets, about 2 magazines laid into a titan tank can drain maybe a quarter of its health bar. Same thing for the strogg walker etc. The vehicles are pretty ok in the way they handle, theyre not really what i would call battlefield like. You can knock wheels off apc's etc to disable their movement..at least when you're just messing around in spawn, in game as of yet ive yet to see any vehicle get its mobility disabled, people just seem to go for the kill. The one feature i really like about the game is the anti personnel\ anti air\ anti vehicle structures. Initially they can only be around your base but when you take over other parts of the map you can plonk them further afield. Its something new to this kind of game and something that obviously battlefield has never had. Theyre totally self automated so no need for someone to sit in one for 15 mins guarding an area. I dunno its the kind of game i want to like but the infantry combat seems more luck orientated than any kind of skill being involved. If it was slowed down some and not so fucking "hoppy hoppy" id say this game has the potential to take a dump all over the bf series. They also need to tone down smg's damaging tanks and other vehicles ffs thats annoying as shit. Upped a few pics here 1920x1200 maxed settings 4xfsaa 16x aniso http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gerald.marley/etqw/ |

Wow...that's ridiculous. So basically if a tank happens to get in the middle of about 8-10 infantry he will be destroyed effectively without the use of any anti-tank weapons. Developers who do shit like that just flabbergasts me. Instead of relying on your brain and wit to overcome a tank moving into your position, you can just assault him with multiple SMGs or camp until enough infantry respawn to help you destroy it. That eliminates the entire point of having a combined arms type of game. Each vehicle should have the purpose of halting infantry or push them backwards, not simply serve as a large target for being dominated by the class it was designed to impede. It would work a lot better if you had to use your brain to hide or find an anti-tank RPG-style weapon near to counter the tank. These types of games should be all about countering: each vehicle/weapon class should be very effective for a precise situation, and likewise be very vulnerable to a precise situation. |
videos of it here: http://www.theoompa.com/Stuff/QuakeWars/
Wicked stuff happy: I guess the damage meters can be lowered and generally balanced as I recall playing in BF games at the beginning where certain weapons were overpowered. That is easily changable so it'll be fixed at some point rock: Graphics look sweet, think it'll be ok on an Ati X850 XT 256mb? Is it available for download for free members or is it still subscribers only? |
Far as i know its available for regular fileplanet accounts now or later this week.
It would run on an x850 but you'd need to scale some stuf back, drawdistance is massive in this game, no "mystical fog" on the horizon like every battlefield map. |
