Insurgency
Today is presumably the day for the release of Insurgency. Their forums just hit 1000 people a few minutes ago, and their entire server is shitting a brick. I'll be getting back to everybody with a review once I play the game, but for now try to help crash their servers by going to their site and hitting F5 over and over beer:

Im hoping it will be good. I havent updated / opened steam in about a year lol.

Well there's not been any official statement of a delay, but it has been delayed. The reason for the delay was you couldn't holster grenades. You could still switch back to your weapon though, so what was the big deal? They could have easily released today, then patched in a day or two, but instead they've decided to constantly "promise" a release all day today. I have my doubts it will come out tomorrow. They really need to learn a few things about PR.
|
So this is for HL2 right?
Pretty BS how they keep delaying. |

Reading the forums have been hilarious, Some guy made a thread praising the devs for making such a great game and the first response was, "SHUT THE FUCK UP." happy: People are extremely rude though, many people have started threads saying something like, "RELEASE THE FUCKING GAME YOU ASSHOLES!!" ffs it's free, what's there to really complain about at the end of the day? oOo: |
Well apparently it is supposed to be released within the hour according to the forums. It seems like a pretty awesome game and I hope it will be able to play it tonight.
|
I can't play anything for a few days, waiting on a motherboard arriving, laptop ftw. oOo:

At the minute i have an sn25p shuttle with an fx60 and 2 gigs of ram. I can't use it because i sold the 8800gts and the new card i got is far too big to fit into it. Bought a new case, (lian li v1000+) waiting on an 850 psu coming and a motherboard i bought off a guy online. Gonna sell off the cpu, mobo and ram as a package deal to get the cash for a core 2 duo 3ghz and a new mobo with ram. Gonna be soon playing again with "gerv" settings soon with this new card. Pretty much as fast as the 8800 ultras, without the retarded price tag. happy: |
DLing now.
You know whats funny, one of the modeling guys asked if i could take pics of myself wearing the Marine Corps daypack and pics of it from all angle for him to model it to make this mod a year ago. So seeing the daypack being worn by some of the models is awesome. |

Well I finally got to play it and I am fairly impressed. The game looks great and offers a different style of gameplay compared to CS. Alot of teamwork is needed. It is similar to America's Army in the respect at the attempt at realism. And just like AA it is very difficult to tell apart enemies from teammates. I was tked several times in the short while I was playing it. There are a few bugs that need to be worked out but for a free game I am definitely impressed.

OK here are some very early impressions:
-The weapons feel very tight. You can move fairly fast while in iron sight mode, which is good IMO. You can also bring up iron sights fast, so you actually do develop a habit of iron sighting as you strafe around a corner -The sounds in this game are awesome. Gunshots in the distance sound far away, as do grenades. Firefight close up sounds loud and satisfying. -The environments during large firefights are very well done. A LOT of dirt gets kicked up from bullets, and at many times it reminds me of the movie Black Hawk Down. -The 3rd person animations are a little weak, but they will be fixing that. The death animations, on the other hand, are some of the best I've ever seen. -The bullet penetration is awesome. There's one particular map with a 2 story wooden frame building. I was an insurgent with an RPK, and saw 6 Marines run in the 2nd floor of the building. I knew they would be near the windows, so I emptied an entire drum on the building. Watching the particles and dust fly off and cover the building was awesome. Even more awesome: I killed all 6 Marines in that building. VERY satisfying. -The structure of the game is confusing. There's no map to look at, so you have no idea where the cap zones are. That is, until your squad commander gives you an order to attack a cap zone. This feature seems frustrating, but I think it was done on purpose to promote team play. You really have to rely on your commander to know what's been capped, and what caps the enemy may be controlling. It forces you to stay in a tight squad for the most part, because if you don't, you probably will not cap at all. I like that. -There's no death messages, except to let you know if any of your teammates die. You don't ever have a confirmation when you kill an enemy, so it makes advancing a little suspenseful as you never really know if that bullet penetrated through that sandbag or not. That's a cool feature. Overall, this game definitely reminds me of America's Army. However, it's a much faster, more hectic version of America's Army. It promotes more team cooperation than AA, and you don't have to empty an entire mag to kill somebody in this game like you do with AA. I'd say this game is a good mix of DoD:S (the cap-cased play), America's Army (approach to realism), and MOHAA CKR-style (bullets go where you want them to; usually 1 shot kills). I think it's certainly a nice fusion of game styles. It's not a great game, but it's a good game, and certainly the best game I've seen for a first release mod that's still a Beta. The issues with the game are already recognized by the mods (like the goofy animations) and they're already working on making the gameplay tighter. I'd recommend trying it out. |
Ive not been able to play the mod but from what ive seen some people are calling it red orchestra in a new setting. eek:

We expect detailed analysis and pics/vids of said game once you lot get it running cool:

Dunno, i always found RO kinda clunky with its controls and the pace was really slow. This is meant to be faster in speed but still some people are saying the gameplays kinda similar. I won't know till later this week. cry: |
I just played another game. It seems this game works best with a max of 24 people. People still don't know what they're doing, as they'll run right through a cap zone and not even realize it (idk how you couldn't, since you get a huge bar across your screen). The game is actually quite satisfying if you can manage to get a squad of guys who are working well together, using each weapon the way it's meant to be used. You can actually feel like working as a team could work; there's just not enough people who are knowledgeable on the game yet.
I really, REALLY like the sounds in this game. I play games with this guy who is a huge audiophile, and even he said these sounds are fantastic. For what may be the first time I've ever experienced in a game, the weapon sounds actually sound as they do if you watch real life videos of battles in the Middle East. The crack of the weapons was done perfectly, and the sound of each weapon changes for many factors: whether you're indoors/outdoors, distance, and so forth. IMO, it takes the sound concept of DOD:S but actually makes it sound right. As for my gripes, the biggest complaint I have is the sprinting. You can't strafe while sprinting, and although that doesn't bother me so much, what does bother me is your mouse sensitivity is reduced dramatically while sprinting. That means if you want to turn at all while sprinting, you're going to have to frantically move your mouse repeatedly across your mouse pad. I guess they were going for the feel that you're wearing equipment, but it just sucks complete balls. Another problem is the fact that your bullets actually hit lower than your iron sights. That means if you're crutched behind cover, chances are you're probably going to hit whatever is in front of you, even though your iron sights are well clearing the obstacle. Fortunately, most of these problems have already been addressed by the devs. They actually said they're already working on new art and animations, because the current ones are over a year old, and they knew this going in, but knew it was time to release the mod anyway. It seems they're being very pro-active in knowing what doesn't work so well. There could be a patch by the end of the week. |
Another thing I really like, especially when compared to Red Orchestra, is the grenades. In RO you can throw grenades 500 meters halfway across a map. In most games, and ESPECIALLY in matches, the winning team will be the one who can launch their grenades the fastest. It eliminates the element of cover and suppression, because if you stay in one spot, you will be killed soon, at least as long as you're playing against me. Insurgency's grenades don't do this. The grenades feel heavy like they should, but you can still throw them far enough to feel effective. You would think this would result in tremendous camping, and at the moment it does (because the players don't know any better), but the bullet penetration will eventually force players to move. Again most players don't realize there is bullet penetration, but I've killed countless people who were hiding behind sandbags, wooden planks, power posts, tin sheeted plates, and even dry walls. This is perfectly fine with me at the moment, since my kill/death ratio looks good, but eventually people will figure it out and stop camping so much.
Really the only thing holding the gameplay back right now is the lack of any real good games. Either both teams have no clue what they're doing, or one team actually knows what they're doing and the other team doesn't and they end cap every round within 3 minutes. You can also move around while you've got your MG bipod out while prone. You can't fire while you're moving, as your guy picks up the rifle, but being able to still maintain some mobility is awesome, and that's the biggest reason why I've never liked using MGs in Red Orchestra or other games up to this point. So far the RPK is my favorite weapon. It's a BEAST. |
Sounds sweet, post pics plz
