Heading out with the kids to see Transformers

Hopefully there will not be too many people at the movie theater.

My brother Hollyw00d went to the transformers release party/conv in RI (Hasbro is located in my old home state) and said they where having a small sneak peak and it looked amazing.

More info in a couple hours

Zoner 07-03-2007 12:31 PM

Awesome! Saw a"Making of..." special a few nights ago and I was impressed.

I might go this weekend.

tomxtr 07-03-2007 02:04 PM

I was thinking of taking the kids tomorrow. You'll have to let us parents know if it is too violent.

Nyck 07-03-2007 02:14 PM

there will be a ton of people everybody and their fucking brother is going to see that movie in the next 24 hours it seems like

geRV 07-03-2007 02:16 PM

Stil pissed they fucked around with megatron so much. cuss:

ninty 07-03-2007 02:57 PM

holy shit, i was just looking at some trivia for the movie:

"It took approximately 38 hours to render one frame of the CGI animation to portray the Transformers."

Paintballr 07-03-2007 02:59 PM

I saw it last night...it was alright. It was pretty much just eye candy.

Only complaint I really have is with all the CGI, the fight scenes had so much going on it was almost a blur and you couldn't even tell what the hell was going on.

oOo:

Obviously he should have looked at least similar to the megatron\galvatron character. I dunno where the fuck they came up with that design, looks like some kinda purverted sex toy.

That was the toy, the cartoon character looked nothing like that.

OK, this has to be the best movie I've seen in a while. While I was not a big transformers fan growing up (I'd rather watch starblazers because they had a kick ass battleship as their main spacecraft - man I'm dating myself) I did my fair share of watching the series in the early days.

The movie did a great job of intertwining CGI and live action, lots and I mean lots of action with some funny one liners thrown in. My dream 2004+ mustang has now been pushed aside by the new 2008(?) Camaro, in my fav. color canary yellow

As for being too violent there maybe one hint of someone getting stepped on but no blood and guts at all (one guy does get spiked from behind). Lots of bots on bots fighting and plenty of large explosions.

If your a fan of the old cartoons, there is plenty of old hidden gems thrown in here and there. Keeping the same voice actors was well worth it.

Funny, the past 13/14 years I cant stand to watch a movie or TV show twice within the same year or two, but I want to go back and see this movie again.

As for our local theater, they had the movie playing every 1/2 hour and our showing was about 65% full.

Please if anyone sees the movie leave your review, but try and not give anything away... please no spoilers..

rudedog 07-03-2007 05:14 PM

We hung around for the mom and dad tv interviews and the well lets just say, "you can bet there will be a transformers II scene" :)

Which there will be in 2009

evenflow 07-03-2007 05:39 PM

fawth of jewlie

Pyro 07-03-2007 09:33 PM

I wanna see it...so far everyone i know who has seen it says it was wicked...

Cpt. Obvious 07-03-2007 11:01 PM

I just got back from seeing it. The movie stayed true to the cartoon with respect to the cartoon like dialog and one timers. My only complaint is at times it seemed like one giant GM commercial. It felt like in every seen they had to pan by a GM, Chevy, or Pontiac logo.

Bucknub 07-04-2007 12:29 AM

this movie will go down as one of the greatest movies ever created

one of my favourite movies to date.. was so fun to watch. the audio was amazing with all the thumping and clicking, humming and buzzing and shit.

and the transformers were funny as fuck rock:

Airborne Butters 07-04-2007 12:59 AM

....

What the hell was that about?!

Thank God I have the TRUE 80's version on DVD and VHS.

As for now, I'm off to purchase a new Chevy and a 12 pack of Mountain Dew. Oh and if there's time, I'll put some stuff up on E-Bay.

Milla 07-04-2007 01:56 AM

^ huh? I take it a lot of adds?

Honestly, if you're a poser and you want to buy into the hype and commercialism, then go see it. Be sure you pay attention to everything, as you can't tell the diffrence between each robot or their faces. One thing you won't, and can't miss, is the GMC,Mountain Dew, HP,etc.. ads.

My advice, is to keep Transformers true and buy the 1986 Animated movie. It's like 10-15 bucks at Wal-Mart and holds true to the original story line and awesomeness that was Transformers. Shitty, but cool at time 80's Metal hair band music , Megatrons bad ass voice with awesome sayings, GREAT battle scenes and of course Orsen Wells gothic, almost scary at times final performance. Was also chock full of great actors.

This so called shit storm that is Micheal Bay's abortion of a fetus, is nothing more then Hasbro's attempt at launching a new line of toys and GMC's ploy to parasite hitchike onto those coat tails.

It feels like someone took one of my fond child hood memories and shit on it, after shitting on it, they laughed at me, pissed into it's mouth then formed a new GMC vehicle.

rudedog 07-04-2007 07:09 AM

While I enjoyed the move, Airborne Butters does have a point. There is a lot of product placement ads in this movie.

However I'm a little more forgiving then he is. The only exception to the all GM lineup, was the black ford police car, however I think that was more of a dig between the old Chevy vs Ford wars. The Ford had so many add-ons you really could'nt tell it was a Ford (late model mustang)

geRV 07-04-2007 11:39 AM

The original cartoon movie from 86 was also considered to be a feature length toy commercial mainly bcause they killed off so many established characters and brought in new ones.

Jotun 07-04-2007 05:50 PM

i can see where people might think the movie was corny or cliche, but i really really enjoyed it. i never go see movies in the theatres but i was really happy i went to see this, and i would go again. definitely entertaining.

Madmartagen 07-04-2007 06:24 PM

saw it this morning andi thought it was pretty good and i didnt really want to see it in the first place. i didnt notice the commercialism in it execpt for a GM logo every now and then, but its no big deal as you can cleary tell what type of make the car is.

Only real complaint i had was the voices werent able to be played by the original cast. Frank Weller is still big in the voice acting business, but its impossible to get Starscream voiced since the actor had died. It was cool hearing Optimus Prime/Peter Cullen though.

I'll see it again, it was good.

Wasnt a late model, it was like an 07 GT500 Stang. Movie rocked, forget the 80's version of transformers when you go to see it, you'll be all bent out of shape like butters. Take it as a new movie and enjoy the action, comedy, and awesomess. Actually thinking about seeing it again.

Also, if you dont like the movie simply because it has blatent advertising, boo hoo. If the whole movie is ruined because you saw a GM logo as the camera panned by on something like a convoy shot, pull the stick out of your ass and just enjoy the shot.

m00nraker 07-04-2007 11:59 PM

doesnt late model mean its relatively new?

Milla 07-05-2007 12:03 AM

yes

Zoner 07-05-2007 08:43 AM

Here's my initial take on this movie (even though I haven't seen it yet)...

People who weren't huge Transformers geeks as kids = love the movie

People who were huge Transformers geeks as kids = hate the movie

People who were huge Transformers geeks as kids and are still huge Transformers geeks = virgins

ninty 07-06-2007 09:50 AM

Saw it last night. It was wicked.

geRV 07-07-2007 10:34 AM

Snagged a version to see how it was, movie was pretty good. I was expecting the robots to look weird walking and jumping around but they were animated really well and it looked very natural.

Was a weird movie to watch, after watching the cartoon series and the cartoon movie its strange to not see the transformers be the main focus of attention on screen. Obviously it was based around the humans a bit more to avoid more and more cgi needing to be used which would have exploded the budget.

Weird thing was i thought Megatron sounded the most human out of all the robots, Optimus as usual sounded a bit too preachy like he was constantly on a soapbox.

The movie never answered the question that everyone asks, where the fuck does primes trailer go to when he transforms...in the cartoon it randomly appears when he goes to truck mode and disengages and disappears when he goes to robot mode. biggrin:

With the way the movie ended it'll be interesting to see how they make a sequel. eek:

Gonna go see it when it hits theatres here the online version was shitty at best. annoy:
