I've had many arguments with people about this. Most of you don't care, but for those of you who do i'd like to hear what you have to say. For one the KAR is more accurate, it holds a tighter grouping and is more accurate while moving. it also seems to cause more damage (i've had to hit lagged out players twice in the head with the m1 before). And I understand people like the m1 because it shoots faster, but is it alright to sacrifice accuracy and hit points for a faster rate of fire? I don't really think so. Well I just want to know what people think, I use the KAR98 alot and feel at home using it, i'm not like a wonder boy with it or anything, I just feel it's the best of two rifles, and is often over looked.

i usually have to go for the m1 because with KAR i dont have much of a chance against someone with a thompson whos strafing around

I prefer KAR over M1, the KAR is much more accurate and powerful compared to M1, and you can shoot while you are moving without losing too much accuracy.

but, without realism, i won't even consider using rifle unless there are really good cover from teammates.

that's were practice comes in to it. after using the KAR for a while it gets easier to hit those people.

Its different...
I had always prefered the M1 CARBINE...
but also loved the Garand...

Its just his sound, the Garand looks good
and is fast.

But of course I also love the K98,
Im busy usin it in DoD. Its
a great weapon.

its just the small clip and the lazy

I agree with Soviet. The KAR is a good weapon if you know how to use it. Unfortunately, people try to use it like a machine gun - you can't. You have to be patient, hang back a little, and take your time in aiming. If you do it right you'll get good. The KAR's is accurate and powerful, and it's a shame more people aren't using them.

Well anyway I have a special love for the M1 Garand and hope to purchase a working one someday too, but in the game I prefer to use the Mauser. I dont know why but I like the sound it has and it feels good to shoot someone from long range and have them get all mad about bein sniped untill you tell them it was a mauser w/o a scope. I piss my roomates off with that all tha time. I think the unscoped Mauser is better than the scoped version myself. Mabee thats just cuz I have a deep rooted hate for snipers. Ok I would go on more but I gotta go my Micro brew of the month Beers just arrived, Time to get Drunk!!!!!!!!!

i like the kar, have to shoot someone too many times with the m1. However it does seem that very few use rifles in unmodded games (which are the games i play in).

I go for the kar everytime i join axis. I just get more satisfaction killing some one with it than a machinegun.

Moh forces you to lead the targets on, and the hitboxes are so crazy that it makes it harder to kill some one with the rifles .(making them useless)

Plus it takes atleast two shots to the torso to take some one down it seems, so thats another negative for rifles.

I use rifle too!!

since when? It seems to depend on a couple things like if they are moving when you shoot them, and where they were hit. You can catch many players standing still and hit them with one shot in the upper torso and its fatal. Sometimes what appears to be a upper torso shot could just register as a hit in the upper arms.

One thing I think everyone who uses the KAR on a regular basis can agree on is, nothing beats a long distance head shot with it http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes, I do love those "Pop goes the cranium" shots. Especially when they are running, they just kinda slump forward in a slow walk, or get knocked backwards off their feet.

LOL. I had this exact same experience online at the Omaha map. The way I start on that map when I'm axis is I don't shoot at the guys storming the beach other than with the MG42's in the pillboxes. However, the moment I get sniped (not rifled or machine gunned) from the beach I use a Mauser and start firing from the top down onto the beach.

And of course, one time after I was really getting a bunch of kills I had a couple of guys get irate with me for doing so. They called me cheap, a newbie, and all kinds of other stuff. Then I told them I was using a standard rifle without a scope. Of course, they didn't believe me. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

The really funny thing was that these two idiots were sniping from down on the beach themselves!

rifles are useless on normal servers, easily outgunned my mgs but when realism is on well i tend to use m1 alot

Don't see much of a difference, although I do seem to hit more often than miss with the KAR... (of course, since I started using custom crosshairs, I usually don't miss at all unless they move right as I take a shot)

Hey, i play with the KAR and the Garand M1 almst every game i play, but in different situations.
For example, i find the M1 Garand better in assault situations, where its fast firing rate could help ya in close quarters combat.
I usually take the KAR when i;m more of a defender, taking my time to aim the allies, switching to grenades when they get close and then pistol when things get really crowded.
Rifles need more skill than other wepoans. Keep in mind that in the war the majority of soldiers carried rifles.

KAR. I wish more people would use rifles rather than machine guns anyway, but when you want to use a rifle, you can't because everyone else is using machine guns. Oh well.

Agreed! Squads were mostly made up of riflemen. It would make the MP games more challenging.

I love the KAR but it really is wise to go with the M1 for close combat. It's funny though when a shotgunner goes up to you and gets off 5 shots and you're still alive to drive a bullet through his dome. Man I love that http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif
