Guitar Hero III
(note: my review is based on expert difficulty, because I'm a beast man)
Bought the game yesterday. Had a BLAST playing it until 3:00 this morning. I woke up today and my hand hurts like Hell. My fingers are sore just like when I first started playing real guitar. For those out there that are Guitar Hero beasts, you won't be disappointed. This game will blow your dick off towards the latter half of the campaign. I never failed a song on the career mode on GHII (except for Jordan, but that's a different story), but I failed about 5 songs multiple times on GHIII. Speaking of failing, just wait until you get to the final boss battle on expert. Being a mediocre guitar and bass player (I can't chicken pick incredibly fast or do arpeggios whilst sweeping or any other leet man guitar techniques), I can say that some of these songs are easier to play on a real guitar. Here's a nice preview of what you can expect on expert on the higher tier songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnPsPM5Jw8A (embedded youtube isn't working right now for some reason, sorry) Overall, the song list is awesome. I remember playing through GHII on expert, and for many of the songs, thinking to myself, "Wow, this song is AIDS. I can't wait to get through with this." I've only felt that way about one song in GHIII, and it was one that took me 7-8 tries to beat and it wasn't even that hard of a song. It probably helps that the song list is better in general, but the note charts just seem more fun to me than in GHII. Many of the songs around the middle tiers in GHII played the same note section over and over and over and over, and it just pissed me off playing it, because they were easy sections, just really tedious. I haven't really experienced many songs like that at all. I haven't gotten a chance to play any of the bonus songs yet but I hear the note charts on those are awesome. To give you a good idea of how much I hated GHII's note chart, the only songs I even enjoy playing on GHII now are Jordan, Six, Thunderhorse, Gemini, Hangar 18, Misirlou, and Institutionalized. I think pretty much all of the other songs have shitty note charts that are boring to play for the most part. That seems to be fixed in GHIII, with many of the low and middle tier songs having interesting and fun sections throughout them so it never really becomes a chore to play any particular song. The only chore is having to beat some of the ridiculous songs at the end, but that's entirely different. SO, go buy the game, kids. Your penis will fall off (and your left hand). |
man I play that shit with my right hand.
|
lefty?
|
nope, I am right handed. I just learned the wrong way. Every time I hold a guitar now it is right hand chords, left hand picking.
|
ZOMG HENDRIXXX WANNABEEEE
LOL, I remember when I first started playing guitar, I thought to myself, "why the Hell would you want to do the harder aspect of guitar playing with your non-dominant hand?" I tried to pick with my left hand just to see what it was like, and I failed miserably. I never tried again. |
i hated GH3
|
shame they only have very few good tracks on any of the games.
guitar hero 2 had the best - iron maiden - the trooper! |
im so done with guitar hero, it gets old.
|
I was playing in best buy with some guys from my school ont he dragonforce song which is essencially the hardest in the game...it's fucked up
funa s hell though but i played on medium cuz well i suck still...but the guys i was playing with were pretty good. im going to buy it when the bundle isn't sold out... |
I really don't see how anyone can possibly play this game on anything higher than Medium.
That Raining Blood vid was absolutely retarded. |

Jotun: Rock the 80's doesnt 'ave it, nor the GHII for the PS2. The X360 version of GHII, however...

my roommate has beaten every song in GH2 on expert INCLUDING "Jordan" but just barely. He's waiting to get some money but then he's going to buy GH3. I'm pretty excited, there are some sweet songs on their. I have to say I'm the most excited for "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

the one solo isnt too bad on hard but expert its a pain in the balls

Pride and Joy was a blast to play on expert. BTW, I went for a run on One earlier and got 92% 5*. Pisses me off I didn't get the FC, but I suppose that is probably impossible for that song unless you have ridiculously fast fingers. I think I got 86% on Solo A (the Jesus mode part) |
True story about playing One. I have a friend who's kind of a quiet guy, really sticks to himself. In HS all he really did was sit in his room and play guitar. He was, and still is, really quite fucking good. Anyways , during the talent show in HS me and him got stuck doing backstage shit for extra credit. During this adventure, some dude bro kid was trying to play some shitty ass Blink182 song and was sucking more ass then a 3 dollar whore. My friend kind of snickered and the dude bro got really pissed and told him to do better. My friend calmly walked over, took the guitar and flipped it around (he's left handed). He sat there and played the whole song of One upside down , including the solo. Was probally the most tits thing I've seen to this day still.

That just proves that Guitar Hero is WAY harder than playing the songs on a real guitar. That section of the solo in "One" is probably the easiest part of the whole solo, as it's just tapping.
Having to trill and pick all those notes in GH is fucked up. I guess I'm just jealous of superior GH skills. I can barely get by on medium. Even then, my wrist cramps up and I feel like slinging that little red SG through the fucking TV. |

Zone, for that section of the solo you don't HAVE to pick the notes. They are hammer ons/pull offs, but I wouldn't recommend trying not to pick the notes, since you'd need remarkable precision in your hammer ons as to not break the chain. I just strum really fast and hopefully move my fingers fast enough to hit the notes.
But you're right, playing that on a real guitar is technically easier, but not as simple. What I mean by that is, on GH, you've just got 5 frets to push on one string basically. on a real guitar, you have so many more possibilities that it takes a LOT more practice IMO. |
woot I didn't even know it was out, gonna pick it up later today when I get unlazy
|
i've been playin git here and there at other peoples houses. i'm good on medium, but i don't have the game so learning the hand movements on hard for the extra note is a bitch. my friend can play raining blood on expert; it's pretty ridiculous how people can take in information and react at such an insane speed.

Ive a cousin that plays this and ive watched him a few times, i don't really get the point of it if playing some of the songs are harder in game than on an actual real guitar. Never actually played it though, just seems like a random button mashing game evolved to sequential button mashing. |
