Should this forum close?
I personally see no future for it at the moment because Rudedog is a busy man and has slowly turned into a BadScript character (no disrespect)
|
if it were to close we should have a place that all of us can go once in a while to catch up. there are some good people on this forum.
|
we lost alot of people when we went into groundforce1.com and we lost even more when we went into fpsgameforums. this place would be hella active still if it just stayed aa.com from the beginning, in regards to both members of offtopic and the idiots who still play the game and its mods. the idea of a general fps forums in the form of gf1 and fpsforum is too flawed as its too vague.
we have a facebook group and there is 92bengals for the option to laugh at comatose. its too hard to start again from the bottom at another forumlike this has, 5 years its been for me. i love this place as its not that biggest amount of users it feels like a family seeing you bitches grow up. question is when do we admit defeat? |
Yes, the forums really had no point to it from about 2004 when hacks for mohaa were rampant and people slowly but surely stopped playing the game (thanks EA for the support btw, you twats). As elstatec said domain name changes didn't help matters.
When the site became fps games forum there was a counterstrike source server and things looked pretty rosey but that all got knocked on the head pretty soon after. Not sure of the reason but money was probably a factor. Really its been on life support since then, ive not posted in a good while seeing as the place has been a ghost town for maybe the last 6 or so months, it got little sparks of busy threads with airborne and crysis but that soon faded. Really whats the point of posting much anymore when threads get 1 or 2 responses? (most of which seem to be blitz either talking absolute bollocks just for the sake of posting, or posting song lyics into a thread for no reason). The sites not gonna be what it was and really thats all there is to it. 2001-2003 were the glory years for this site, after that it was a steady decline into what it currently is, that being a forum with no real purpose. |
Stop bitching about the forums. If you don't like it, close yourself and disappear. Sorry to sound harsh but i'm tired of hearing it. [strike]BS[/strike] RUDE will decide to pull the plug or not. It's his time and money. Perhaps it can get a lift if a new game or something along those lines come out.

im going to buy the forum and turn it into a a porn site.
|
why shut it down?
this shit is memories. Hello Gerv |

Somehow i doubt goatporn would attract many new subscribers, though buttocks would pay for membership for a site like that. How about a spam porn site, just lines and lines of posts all with blitz's name on them. Be like dangling crack in front of an addict. |

Well I wouldn't be opposed to it staying open of course, that depends on Rude's wallet. I have far too many memories in the database I'd like to look back to someday, heh. I realise we've shifted domains in the past but perhaps a more radical approach is needed. Earlier I only just noticed that the site's forum index has been snipped down dramatically. How about we all choose a game thats on the horizon? We'd obviously keep the offtopic going strong but all contribute to finding and posting information about a particular game or genre. Is there any games anyone here thinks has the potential to base this forum/site on? A game thats obviously not out yet? Post em up guys. |
consoles run the world now
outside of starcraft 2...there is no games that deserve mentioning when compared to the consoles. |
we could go ahead and choose a game randomly, but will anyone be dedicated to it? does anyone have time to run a game website? write articles, reviews, get the latest news? i certainly don't..
we should just advertise as an offtopic forum.. maybe have some sort of front page where we can write funny articles and post funny pictures and show our penises |
I can perhaps get people to want to come and post here
but hey...why would ya want people whoa ssociate with me to come here? I know a whackload of online peeps...some are a little messed up...but most would contribute well...but i don'tknow if I could get them here...they already have a community...which ahs like 50 people online at most moments. |
i think the only game that we had the chance to go and focus on was medal of honor airborne, but EA cocked that up with their shitty support for online.
and i dont see any big potential fps games coming out soon either on pc or consoles so we are screwed in that aspect. migth aswell just ressurrect aa.com and start playing mohaa again. edit; actually there is left 4 dead out in september, and that should be a pretty intense game and very community based with itsa maps and mods. could call the place rightfordead.com http://www.zombiereportingcenter.com...ad_450x360.jpg |
but was also thinking, communities are more likely to exist if they start from the beginning.
no ones going to join a new community if there are already 40 users with 5000+ posts that have been here since 2002. its flawed anyway we try |

its because everyone grew up and found out about money, jobs and pussy. Everyone evolved from twatty douche teen to, balls wound tight 20 somethings who have college work, jobs(except for gerv) and art trying to get laid.
it is what it is |

In that case, I think allowing mature content on here may bring a lot more. Not sick stuff...ah I dunno, I'm out of ideas |
Hey guys sorry about my tardiness.
The site is here for all of you, BS passed it on to me or I asked BS to pass it on so I could keep it alive for all of you. No ones going to hurt my feelings if they want the site gone, everything will be backed up and saved. Everyone knows where and or how to get in touch with me. As for the site, other then the vB license and theme (one or two I forgot) it does not cost me anything to host.- and some of you donated to help cover part of that cost. It's on the same server as my personal site and FPSadmin, so as long as FPSadmin is around and the sponsors help cover that cost these forums will be here. Just for the facts, other then news I don't post much in the forums over there (FPSadmin) either. - just don't have the time. I had high hopes for the site but like Gerv mentioned EA helped drive that idea into the ground rather quickly. BS still has not transfered the AA.com domain to me, even after I paid for an additional year for him but I know he had some issues with the domain company. Other then Porn, sorry guys. it's your call. Then there is the archive idea, close the site but keep it open for anyone to search it. |
By all means if anyone needs me or there is a site emergency, the mods have my contact info
or PM me here or at FPSadmin.com You can also email me and my IM contact info should be in my profile (granted I'm not on IM that much). Email is rudedog -=at=- gmail doott com jim -=at=- landi ddoott net sorry but I get enough spam LOL. |

Well consoles do have their place but as far as online play goes, fps in general, the next big graphical advance and new tech in general the pc is untouchable. Ive played on both live and the ps3 online service and both have rather obvious glaring flaws that could easily have been fixed by how looking at how the pc does online, apparently that was too hard for sony or ms though (nintendo dont really count as their online is a pretty weak attempt and not one of the driving forces behind the console). |
Starting up a TF2 site back in June would have been successful, but there's too many huge boards for that game now.
Battlefield Heroes could very well evolve into a successful board. I see that videos for that game are getting a lot of hits on gametrailers.com. More view than any other PC game right now. |

you have to realise gerv that not everyone has unlimited funds like you to buy the latest pc setup for these future graphical advance. online services wise you will not like either of the 360 or ps3 because you dont like to interact, you dont like to talk via headset. this is a standard with say the 360 which makes it a great multiplayer experience. i agree its the wrong idea for a forum though. |
Quote:
Nothing to do with interaction, the truth of the matter is the majority of xbox live games you're playing peer to peer, which means rarely do you get a dedicated server and you're relying on someone elses connection being upto the task of hosting multiple people, with a pc the vast majority of games are hosted on dedicated servers so the problem of "is it up to it" is solved. Secondly some live games have a "server" browser but no ping meter, which means you can connect to a game hosted by someone in the uk and have it be a lag fest, then have to disconnect and find another server. Why aren't browsers with pingmeters visible before joining the game a standard "must have" for live enabled games? Some have it some don't, and some have it while reporting wrong on how good the server latency is, think id rather connect once than have to fuck around connecting and disconnecting to find out if a server is "decent" or not. The only reason i dont interact with a headset on live is mainly due to the fact the majority of players seem to do nothing but bitch when theyre playing, you get the odd game where its actualy fun to talk but from what ive expereinced most games turn into a bunch of angsty squeaky teenagers shouting "pwned" time and time again. In other words welcome to pc online circa 1999, just seems to be some new "original" fad to some of the console kids who obviously seem to think those words have never been uttered in a sentence before. Fortunately it seems to have made the pc online better, it seems most of the tards have shifted over to console gaming. Oh yeah and please explain to me this "unlimited funds" bs? I save a bit of money, buy a card then when i want to upgrade sell it for a good price so i only have to add a small amount to get a new card, you honestly think im forking out £400 each time i want to buy a new card? Its called buying and selling before a component goes down in price too much. |
the majority of people playing online on ps3 and 360 dont care or just ignore about the lack of dedicated servers, only someone as whiney as yourself would give a big enough crap to cry about it. as the same is for the headset thing, it works on xbox live and i have a hella good time interacting with friends and randoms whilst playing anything from call of duty to shouting random japanese phrases at some japs on katamari. whilst you may think every person on xbox live is a whiney bitch have a look in the mirror sometime as last time i checked you were the biggest whine bag around.
and hardware wise, who actually wants to waste time buying and selling hardware on a monthly basis to push those extra few pixels and frames per second by shifting and buying new graphics cards, ram, cpu, os, when i would rather buy a piece of hardware that will last for a long time and focus on buying games. |
you all love the c0k

LoL you're a fucking idiot, you can never counter an argument with points you just fall back on your retarded little insults that are so stale they've lost all meaning. Come back when you evolve from a knuckle dragging mouth breathing arsehole to someone who has a brain that half functions properly. :goodjob: |
revamp the forum. more of a casual message board rather than a game forum. game sections, music sections, cinema sections, female section (not for women stupid, for us to objectify women), etc. that would be kind of neat.
|
I like that idea, but one concern I would have with it is it would divide the members up between forums. We don't have the regular membership to sustain multiple sections. We can hardly sustain one offtopic section as it is.
I think we obviously all know we need to draw in new members or bring back old members. If we think a general forum will do that then i'm all for that. I think anti's idea is the best suggested so far. |
