Waffen...Remember at the end of Saving Private Ryan when the P-51 Mustangs showed up to save the day? Well, I don't know about you (Although I'm sure you feel the same way) but this scene really bothered me.
The first thing that got me was the fact that we didn't actually see a bomb fall. Our friend Steven does the same thing in Empire of the Sun. I'd wish Spielberg would change this in his filming. Again..I'd wish those planes were P-47s. These Jugs were being used as ground attack durning the early days of Operation Overlord. Also, it would have just looked cool to see the jug fly. These must be great pilots! Right on the German tank..clean shot. Not very likely. But it could happen so I should let it go. Still, if I had it my way the bomb would fall near the tank (and not on!) and would have probably killed Capt. Miller! The Pilots also choose to bomb while they were parallel to the ground, meaning if their bombs ran long they would have hit their own men. I know it must have been an emergency but would the pilots risk the lives of his fellow troops to take the tank out? Maybe he just didn't have time to make the turn so when he bombs he isn't facing the allied forces. Oh..also Upem or however you spell it gets barked at when he salutes Capt. Miller. German sniper could see this and put a hole in Millers head, funny then why are you wearing a helmet with the shiney Capt. rank on it. Capt. Dye told this to Spielberg but the director wanted to make the movie realistic. I've typed to much...I need some cheese. |
the movie was fine lets leave it at that, I will just watch then
|
I Agree, almost if not entirly. Yes, What was that, that got that Russian T-34/85... Or opps, I mean "Tiger Tank." Bombs hit targets soon after the plane flys over them. And I deffinitly think the a 100lb/500lbs Bombs shock and concusion would kill Hanks instantly. Yeah, You shouldve seen my face when I saw him shooting his Pistol at the oncoming Tiger, and imagining it blowing up, and then thinking "No, thats just stupied why would they do that?" and then They do it! Good God. Movies will never be perfect.. But, My favorite movie about WWII or anything has to be "Man Against Tank." A German WWII training film made in 1943. It is on the Ost front, Everything is real in it including the Real Charges they use to blow up Captured T-34/76's! Outstanding!
Oh, and "Kellys Heros" is second place. You cant find a movie more fun then that! http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif |
SPR is an amazing movie, but it has a lot of historical flaws.
Who were those Germans they were fighting at the end? Remember when they destroy that German recon element...the guy says they are 2nd SS Das Reich. Das Reich? 2nd SS wasn't anywhere near Northern France at the time. And the tactics those germans used attacking the city? Eastern Front SS veterans? I think not. Sending tanks into the city without infantry recon first? Crazy. Anyway, SPR is an amazing movie, like I said, but it does have flaws. ------------------ 34th SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division Landstorm Nederland "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" |
the movie was truly fictional, they just wanted it to be a good movie, not 100% accurate
|
Wolfshook: Yeah, Das Reich took 17 days for their railborne elements to even get close to the Normandie Front, they where down in southern France near Toulouse at the time of the Invasion. And even though not 100% stated in the movie, when Das Reich attacks the False town, It is D-Day plus 4 or something. A more likly Division to slam into is the 21st Panzer divison.. Well.. That's hard to call. Also, the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Gotz von Berlichingen" was in southern France above Das Reich, and it took them till the 10th of june for the first elements to engauge the enemy. Panzer Lehr Lost a great number of there Armor trying to get there during the day under allied Air Power... A Okay movie It was, I liked some of it, some parts where just laughable!
|
I watched Kelly's Heroes yesterday and thought it was damn good..
ODDBALL is one funny mofo.. "There's the bridge.. it's still up !" <Allied plane blows it up seconds after> " ... no it ain't." LOL.. and his "vibes" rofl Of course, the german in the tiger tank was helluva funny too |

quote:
the movie was truly fictional, they just wanted it to be a good movie, not 100% accurate

exactly.
quote:
Good God. Movies will never be perfect

Nothing is perfect and neither is your complete knowledge of WW2. Yes SPR had flaws but who cares, look past them and you'll see a great movie which was as authentic as they could possibly get it. If you want complete authenticity and realism, join the Army. By the way, this should be in General Discussion. |
Drats..it should. I'm always going from board to board that I forget which one I'm in. Anyone...I just like having fun pointing out things like this. Its fun, I know movies aren't gonna be perfect! Again it's fun!
|
Gen Rommel, it's cool, I was actually pointing my responses to Waffenampt. I'm not meaning to sound like an asshole or anything, but really I think when making movies, theres certain things you have to keep in mind, that may limit some aspects of overall realism like budget, time, so on so forth. Nothing a person makes concerning war that hasnt been in combat will ever match up close to anything near what it must be like. Movie producers, game companies, whatever, do the best they can with the resources that are available within reason. Some things have to be left out so others can be put in, vice versa, you get my drift. Sometimes realism has to be sacrifed for a reason.

History Channel should help with the game producing cause theyll have some good facts!!
------------------ Shroom "For the burned cities and villages; for the deaths of our children and our mothers; for the torture and humiliation of our people; I swear revenge upon the enemy… I swear that I would rather die in battle with the enemy then surrender myself my people and my country to the Fascist invaders. Blood for blood! Death for death!" - Russian War Oath |
I know, I don't expect 100% realism, I don't expect the game to be 100% realistic. If it was the game would take four years to complete. But like I said, it's just fun. And this is nothing...you guys should go to Nitpickers.com. They have people there picking the smallest things in movies. I love going there because it gives me a kick to read them. For me it's just another way to enjoy the movie...so I'm going to watch Star Wars...see if that is realistic!

Seriously, if you guys want 100% realism, you shouldn't watch movies. You should watch the History Channel. I watched four hours of it last night. http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I thought WWII in Color was okay. But dissapointing. I wouldve thought I wouldve seen Color footage of the War. Yes, the actual war, the men of the front lines fighting or production lines, world leaders speaches and wartime color training films. They ended up showing about 30 minutes of actual combat footage during all 4 hours. The rest I have seen before and I think they should of titled it "The General Past in color : 1937 to 1945 In Europe, and the Pacific." I think they tried to cram everything, The War, the People, the Feelings, and drama and etc, into 4 Hours of slowly narated dribble. I give it a 3 1/2 our of ten.
|
There isn't much color combat footage to show...
------------------ 34th SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division Landstorm Nederland "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" |
I've copied some Footage I've came across, and Have about 1 and a half hours of German Color Footage, with combat or amazing training movies, even germans fixing a busted Mk IV by replacing a couple wheels, and fixing some turret problems. And I could get the Gi stuff too.
Just about my favorite is the German Fallschirmjager Deutsche Wolkenschow feature, showing them jump out of Italian Tri-motors. It's very cool. http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif |
history channel is awesome, did you see that ww2 in color thing a while back?

Yeah, They messed up. Period.
|
no, they didnt mess up, well you see, the guns they used were replicas of real guns, so they couldnt just make it hold 8 shots instead of 5, there was probably some point in which he reloads that we dont see. think about it guys. or are you all just a bunch of dumbasses.?

From what I know, IMA-USA, a large weapons parts dealer here in the States supplied the weapons for SPR. All of their weapons are the real deal. Also, He is ejecting Full length 30-06 Blanks every time he cycles the bolt. A guy who made the blanks, Named Joe Swanson suppiled I think it was some 100,000 rounds of real sized rounds for the movie. It is a editing mistake. "Dumbass!"
|
I wonder where waff gets his crap, I'll ask him, waff where do you get your crap?
|
Reading Books. And listening to deals I talk to a lot. "Researching" is the Key.
