Yeah, the M1 Carbine was typically for NCOs/officers and Paratroopers... A much lighter weight weapon and practically no kick when firing it - compared to the Garand anyway.
I'll take the 10 pound Garand, thanks. :-) ------------------ Thank you U.S. WWII combat veterans |
how bout using a shotgun to shoot down the plains hehe

Is it possible...In features it says enemies you'll face include Stukas, thats fine, but will they actually be flying or just rolling round firing aimlessly ? Also, It may be a little unrealistic, but can you man 88 Flaks and things like that or do you just shoot them down with your M1 Carbine http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/wink.gif ...

Isnt it the M1 Garand?
hehe http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/wink.gif Well, that would be cool... ------------------ http://www.3rdInfantry.homestead.com/files/bladesig.jpg |
The M1 Carbine was origianlly designed to replace submachineguns and pistols in arms other then Infantry, and it found itself in the hands of those already mentioned and in the Infantry and Paratroops (The M1A1). Also in November 1944, the M2 Carbine was standerdized. The M2 Carbine was Selective fire (Means Semi-automatic and Fully-Automatic capability).
During World War II, They had the 15 round box magazine. |

Von Paulus: The 30 round Magazine is a Post War devolpment. Common in the Korean war, but not in the Second World War.
|
I'd rather have the garand

Think,
You are on the ground, The plane is in the air, You have a gun made for shooting people, the plane is going 400 mph and is made of aluminum and armour plating, YOU WONT BE SHOOTING DOWN A PLANE WITH ANYTHING LESS THAN A FLAKVIERLING 38!!!! ------------------ Ein Führer! Ein Volk! Ein Vaterland! SS-PzGren |

Think, YOU WONT BE SHOOTING DOWN A PLANE WITH ANYTHING LESS THAN A FLAKVIERLING 38!!!!

Then maybe we'll get to control a flakvierling 38, or a similar anti-aircraft system. Or maybe Allied pilots will assist you in destroying enemy aircraft. |
Didn't the M1 Carbine also have a 30-round bannana clip also ?

A American M16 Halftrack with Quad .50 Cal Brownings would be able to shoot down an aircraft. But I put a little more Trust in Solothurn 20mm Cannons, then American 12.5 by 99mm Brownings..
|
the japanese actually had a mechanism on there rifles , designed to "shoot" at fighters on low running missions and what not, ive heard they worked in some instances
but was a diff. approach, plus there guns were s-h-i-tt-y anyway ( no offense to any of the post wwII japanese gun rifle makers) if any. |
i believe the banana clip was in use with the m1 during WW2, they used it in japan
|
Lucky, Read a Book - Nope. Maybe in 1952.. Not during the Second World War.
|
sure maybe some sixteen star general had a custom 30rnd clip made for his M1. Of course every one was issued with khaki pecker-warmers too...
|
uh, sure, you are going to blast a Stuka out of the sky by shooting a 30-30 round through the canopy...
remember, when pulling out of a dive, the stuka is getting pretty close to 300 mph, kinda hard to make a pinpoint shot. Also, the canopy was made out of 3/4 inch thick, bullet-proof glass, made so that flak/birds/extremely well placed shots, couldn't puncture it. With the bazooka, they were known to be horribly inacurate, especially against quickly moving targets. You're gonna need some sort of vehicle mounted weapon, a FkVrLg 38, A Quad or double browning .50cal, some thing with a little more spray.... |
man, i dont really give two craps about shooting down planes... would be pretty cool and lots of flames though.
but that one dude is right, u guys need to ease off on the people who might not have all the facts or might not be quite correct. for instance, if i were to say... "hitler wore leather shorts in the wintertime!" i would immediatly be pounced upon, for one point they would have to point out ALL the mistakes i made in grammer and spelling... and then of course i would be corrected... first off they werent just leather, but had little cozy pads for your ass... etc etc blah blah you get my point, even though your head might be a WWII book of knowledge, you dont have to try and show everyone up and make them feel like complete dogshit...... give everyone a chance for christ sakes ------------------ ----Savour Since 1982---- |
Lucky - The History Channel is known to show and feature wrong footage for the periods they are talking about.
There where not any 30 Round "Banana" Magazines made or seen during World War II. As I've said, It's a post war devoplment, and It is likly that the History Channel was talking about the M1 and M2 Carbines, and showed one firing full auto with a 30 Round Magazine in action in KOREA. The History Channel is a great channel, but they themselves make errors and mistakes. |
i got from it that after they started making the m1 automatic rifle, that they made it with a 30 round clip, during the war, but im not gonna argue about it anymore,

JezusChr7st - You needn't take it so personally, attitudes and composer are hard to display through plain text and little faces. In my opinion, I think that if someone has a Idea or question, statement etc to post on this forum, Think about what you are really asking.
Von Paulus, you had a question and you asked it like you meant it. That's great. But most of the Replies are like this. Someone else may at first look at this topic heading and think "Dude! That would be hella awesome kick ass if I could shoot down some Nazi airplane with my gun!!" So, they jump in here and kind of throw around whatever they think would just be awesome cool, and sometimes (SOMETIMES) ends up with some silly statement kind of based in fictional reality or whatever you want to call it. I call it just "Historically Inaccurate." I see something like this, and think they are actually serious and throw some facts at them. And they get bent out of shape because I've ruined their concept. Big deal. Lighten up whenever I say something. I'm just pointing out something "More Realistic" or "Historically Accurate." |
Yes well that is all fine and good.... but you must admit that you do take it a tad harsh on some of us lesser ones...
i for instance can tell you for one, that i know very little about WWII compared to most of you, and mind you i fancy i know quite abit.... so it just goes to show the areas of vast knowledge that some of you know... and i agree that some some of the posts are just people ranting on about certain things... in my case i would just skip it and wait for someone to post something worth replying to.. not jumping in to correct there every word. just my 50 cents ------------------ ----Savour Since 1982---- |
And Would you say I just flat out Yelled at Lucky during this Posting? I Wouldnt say so.
|
eh i wouldnt either,
lets make pals waffenampt |
you can shoot down planes. why else would you have a rocket launcher. (other that to hit far away targets and tanks. also i heard at ign on an interview
|
no im frickin serious!!! its just a banana clip, how could they not think of it, anyways i was watching it on the history channel, and they showed video and everything.......... so take it easy waffenampt, gripes,
|
First off, Stukas are dive bombers, so there is a chance, albeit a small one, to knock those fuckers outta the sky with a rifle. It would take an incredibly well placed shot through the cockpit canopie(sp?) that clears the props and such, BUT it still could happen. On another related note, I have read of infantry taking out Kraut planes, and generally making hunburgers out o' the fucking pilots. Granted it was only with low flying planes and aboot twenty guys shooting at him... but still.
------------------ I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me! WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME? |
the only gun from WWII that I can think of having a "banana" style clip would be this:
http://www.lssah.com/images/stg-44.jpg the German MP43/44 or StG44. No American gun had these yet... |
Hang on... I never stated in my original post that I WANTED the player to be able to shoot planes down with an M1, that would be horrendously inaccurate...I simply asked a question (dirscted at 2015) about whether you would be able to man '88's...Though I thought that would be inaccurate as they required around 8 people (correct me Waffen http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif ) to fire, but, now that I think aboutseeing as this game is squad-based this idea isn't too far fetched...Don't hold it against Waffen and Burgen, they can't help it, I mean hell, now that they've established themselves as the "know-alls" at this forum, I'm sure someone else out there will come along and knock them off their perch...I could be mistaken...
- Peace be with you all, Your Friend, Von P ------------------ http://www.iencentral.com/warbirds/n...ns/plane14.gif "The Battle of France is over...the Battle of Britain is about to begin. hunburgers, HUNBURGERS! (in a whimpering pleading voice) Hunburgers! Didn't anyone get it?
------------------ I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me! WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME? |
uhhh.....as i posted earlier.....to the guy who sayed it was hard or highly implosable to shoot daown a plane goin 300+, thats why there were those special sites.....they also worked so there case closed.........damn
