Taking the kids to the gun range to shoot
As many of you know, I have little collection of firearms and like to practice gun safety with my family.
Well we had a Federal Holiday here in Rhode Island on Monday. So I took my children to the gun range. We are the only state to still honor this WWII holiday in the USA. Many people do not think it's politically correct to honor this day and I believe they have changed the name but I can not remember what they changed it to. Oh well back to my post, I took the kids out to the range today for their second time at actually shooting the firearms with live ammo. The first couple of times was to practice range and gun safety. They have since moved up to do some shooting. This first picture is of my youngest daughter, firing the Henry youth .22. This is a lever action short barrel rifle. This is a very good starter gun. She's still working on her stance. But that will come with practice. This one you should all enjoy, This is my older daughter shooting my favorite firearm, My Thompson. Well, do any of the other members belong to a gun range and take the family? Oh, and why do I take my kids to the gun range. They will be dating in about 7-8 years. so it's better to prepare them now :D The real reason. To teach them how to safly handle a firearm. |
Hehe, you will need to practice... A firearm will come in handy when you have to fight back the teenage boys chasing your daughters. :D I have been to a firing range and hunting a couple times, pretty fun once you get the hang of it.
|
Yeah, I went with my father in about grade 6. That was a lot of fun. We haven't been in 10 or more years. There are so many restriction on guns now that its a real pain to go out.
|
my grampa taught me to shoot when i was 5 now i have to be a better shot than him it was a great experience a grampa and his grandson shooting a firearm the pungent smell of gun powder can you say male bonding?
|
Sorry to hear that Ninty9. I know Canada has some strict gun laws. You can own a shotgun can't you? They can be very fun to shoot.
I have only skeet shot once. And I had a very good time. Very fun, but my shoulder felt like it was going to fall off. I showed both my daughters how well I can shoot. So they can pass that along to these so called boyfriends, when there old enough. |
Was in boyscouts

I am very anti gun, but I have a nephew who is in the NRA. He owns a an semi-automatic AK-47 and several rifles, and pistos. Even though I personally will not allow firearms in my house, I am letting my nephew teach my daughters gun safety. You never know.

Gun safety with an AK-47...Can't you just imagine the possibilities? :o
|

But he did pull out the AK when the first my kids went out with him and fired a clip off. It got my kid attention, they hung on every word he said, and followed his instructions to a T. |

I respect that Low spark, I also respect you wanting to teach your children about gun safety. When My kids do go to the rang. We only shoot when we are alone. This way I can keep an eye on them at all times. mikesnacki, I live in RI we are not allowed to own full auto fire arms  All my firearms are semi auto. You will be happy to know you can own a semi auto Thompson and MP5 ( They call it a H&K SP89 ) Here is a picture of my collection including both firearms you desire mikesnakci, My sp89 has the included HK laser site and makes a very nice home defense weapon. This thing is very accurate. I was hitting a metal reactive target 8" in diameter at over 50 yards with it. constantly. The only problem, an SP89 in good condition will cost you over $4000.00 |
No, the question is if it is legal to buy grenades.
|
I used to go to my aunts gunrange, my uncle was a collector, so I fired his guns, sadly he passed away. And she moved no more free gun range for me :(
|
national forests are good gun ranges  but i guess they don't count as free since you pay to get in. my grandma used to own some property up in the mountains that included a good size meadow, good times.

oh man quiet a collection all my family has is a .357 pistol a 9mm smith and wesson 2 .22 's, a .270 winchester a semi auto shotgun and a something else

|
oh my jesus i want an ak-47, i just love the look
|
Tell your kids to lean back and forth when they shoot. It makes them harder to hit.

In my neighbourhood, like all the cresants around Massey Street, I believe no one knows what a gun looks like outside the tv or a videogame
I have never fired a real gun ( paintball I have and stuff, illegal potatoe guns and so on) Being that my dad won;t teach me shit about guns or the two rifles hanging up on the walls downstairs with me My Dad and his brother/uncle Doug when they were kids when you were allowed to ride snowmobiles anywhere ya want when there were barely any houses.......and his old house was huge too, damn, well they went hunting alot and shit, My guess is he doens't want me knowing how to use a gun or something.....I hope he doesn't expect my big body and huge rippling muscles to keep myself safe (......that just sounds funny to me), well around here it is really peaceful and I haven't known anything of a break in EVER in any house around here So I guess times are easier now around where I am |

Sorry, Rude but I have to say on thing... or mabye two. I like play game like MOH, yes it involves guns. But in real life i've known way to many people that have been killed, accidental, sucides, and murdered with firearms,
So it's difficult for me to understand want to own a gun. My nephew and I have spent many hours discussing our stance on guns and gun control. I would like to believe that my nephew will allways be responsible with his guns and never use them in anger. But there are to many people out there that use guns and do not care what harm they do other. Sorry again, I get this way when hear people saying how cool it would be to have this gun or that gun like they are some kind of toy. |
The only thing I have fired is a B-B gun. I think it would be real fun, just for a 1-timer to fire some WW2 weapons. Maybe when I get older I could look around for some WW2 reenactment divisions. I've heard those are really fun. Haha, Rude, that's pretty cool you let your daughters do that. When I grow up, I probably won't have enough money to buy a gun. By then they will probably be banned totally or something.

I havent used any kind of gun aswell
but I will in the futare since I live in israel and will be forced to join the army after all although thats not a 100% sure since I might not choose to be in battle.. after all that aint no game.. its kill or get killed for real, live moving targets ;) |
Hey Rudedog, nice pics of the kids. I have never taken the kids to a range, but we do shoot targets at my wife's grandfather's cabin every Thanksgiving. It's kind of a family tradition now. They get to shoot a .22 Henry like yours and a .410 double-barrel shotgun. I grew up hunting with my Dad and I want to pass on that tradition to my kids. Problem is, I've got two girls too, and I can't get them interested in hunting. Your doing the right thing teaching them about safety. The best thing that my Dad ever taught me about safety is, even if you have spent hours examining a gun and are 100% sure it is not loaded, NEVER point it at anybody.
Low Spark, I admire your decision to put aside your feelings about guns long enough to teach your children the basics in how to handle them for the sake of safety. I also understand your feelings about guns in light of the folks you know who have been killed with one. I have known one myself. However, I know many more who have been saved by them. For example, a couple of years ago a young guy tried to break into my father's house (he's 75). Even after this, twenty-something year old, kid saw my Dad through the window, he continued to try to bust through the door (and was close to succeeding). It wasn't until my father raised the pistol up from his side that the kid ran away. I have no doubt that my father would not be here today if he had not been armed. For those of you in the US who like guns, fight for your rights or the US will end up like Canada, Australia, and England with gun ownership either completely outlawed or so severe that your gun must be kept at a gun club (some countries have laws for pistols only, but some also outlaw private ownership of shotguns as well). Alot of good that does you when there is a guy in your house. "Oh excuse me, could you stop raping my wife and kids until I have time to run down to the club and back?" (Sorry for the diatribe Rude - I didn't get this fanatical until the incident with my Dad.) And for those of you who fear guns, please remember --- guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. Guns just make bullets go really, really fast. :) Beautiful collection Rude, I'm jealous. A Thompson has always been on the top of my wish list. |
