cheating or BEATING THE SYSTEM???
 

yo...i've been playing MOH:AA for about 4 months now and i've had the same opinion on "cheating" the whole 4 months. i see so many people "bitching" about the people that use glitches in the game to their advantage. like going under the map in destroyed village to get kills, or wall clipping. now, in my opinion, this is definately not cheating. its more like beating the system innit? and if you find yourself whining about glitches like people going under the map at destroyed village why dont you just use the system to YOUR advantage and learn how to get under the map and kill the bastards under it. so it is cheating or not? i need your opinions. peace.

Your kind of right, We call them glitches. Buy why stoop as low as them.

If your running a server, use "Dogmeats map fix" to fix all the mistakes EA and 2015 made. That's like saying well everyone is using xyz to cheat and there is no fix. So I'll use xyz to cheat and kill them.

It's a viscous circle, I personally would not want to start.

call it whatever you want, cheating, beating the system, but people going under the maps should be banned. i can cut wallclippers some slack since i'm sure i've done it once or twice without knowing it.

Going under the map and shooting people that cannot see you is cheating - pure and simple. The map-maker (be it EA or the community) did not intend that this should happen - that is why it is called a "glitch".

You will find that certain people will always attempt to exploit these glitches. I consider this cheating as many people will just not know that these exist and as they try to play the map fairly they will find themselves being repeatedly shot.

A rule of thumb that I use is : if you find yourself somewhere where there are no textures then get out of there - if that requires that you kill yourself then do it. If this happens then tell the admin of the server - we pull maps where this occurs. Fortunately most of the more recent maps appear not to have this problem.

Using glitches to your advantadge s not a bad idea but, it's like the Matrix if you've ever seen that.

You can bend the rules to make yourself better than you already are.

In my opinion your high scores don't mean didley squat if you have to use a glitch or a cheat to achieve it. Like they man said the game designers DID NOT put these in the game intentionally so they should not be used.

That's my opinion though.

Depending on your definition, it may or may not be cheating, but either way it is lame, very lame. Stik0r, I understand you sig, I don't know how you could make it more obvious

There is a very fine line between a valid secret spot and a secret spot that gives a cheating level of advantage. This is one of the reasons I evaluate very carefully which spots to block, because many of them simply don't need to be fixed.

Take the church roof in the hunt or the roof in southern france for example: both of these spots require that the player "know the trick" to reaching them. However once up there you can still be seen/shot by other players, in fact once the element of secrecy is removed it's easier for them to be killed.

The other side of the line involves the hidden rooms, missing textures, under the map bugs; all of which I say is cheating. Destroyed Village is a good example of this, once you are under the map you are almost invincible, underground yourself plus can see other players right through the ground and walls. Friggen superman with a sniper rifle. Going down there after them turns into a "King of the Underhill" game on a very unbalanced playing field.

Now the really grey area, fixes such as my crossroads/bridge fix to block off the campers corner. This one is a tough call, since you can still be seen and killed, however to get to it you have to take advantage of a bug in the minefield. The level designer wanted players to die before they got in that spot, and a camper sitting back there has a very unfair advantage in RbDM or Obj modes, less so in TDM or FFA of course.

Sure, this is all just my opinion and not everyone will agree with all my fixes. That's one of the reasons I both provide seperate PK3 files for each fix in my archive and I have the name and version on the maps they effect. With ASE you can easily find out if my mods running, even filter out servers that aren't running it. It's also one of the reasons I've stayed away from other scripted spawn types of mods on the stock maps, even though some people have requested them. Besides I'm saving that kind of creativity for my own maps. biggrin:

God mode is really the only cheat that I can't work with. It essentially negates the reason for the game. The other exploits are advantages, for sure, but there's ways to combat them, generally. You can still rack up other kills, while trying to avoid the exploiter. When I encounter godmoders (usually on a demo server), I openly accuse them. Next step, I change my name to their name+god mode. If that doesn't work, then I leave the server.
