DMz Dogtag 1.6 Beta

I just released it to the beta testers via email, look for it soon on these folk's servers.

Rudedog

Also I've got it on my mini test server:
TFO DogMeats Test Server
68.43.41.63 (incase it's not showing up try the address)
Warning it'll lag with alot of people sorry it's just my linux test server after all.

It'll be interesting to see how the admins set up their options for force models and skins.
Here's the earlier [url=http://www.alliedassault.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=144268:108bd]thread[/url:108bd] for reference.

It seems like the mod is slowing the server down quite a bit

Re: DogMeat

One thing BB ran into earlier: with a rented server your probably going to be FTPing the files instead of just un-zipping the archive directly to the server. Make sure you create a MOHAA\main\global directory (if it doesn't exist) and copy the dmzdogtag_config.scr file into it after you make your changes. (kdja I think this may be the reason yours isn't working re: your PM)

=[DOA]=BallBuster[/quote:034da]

Slowing it down in what ways? With lots of people on or just in general? One thing to try is disabling the scroller. I set the scroll timings to be fairly conservative but it's still a little extra network usage.

// scroll
// 0 = Default Score Text
// 1 = Normal Scroller : via dmzdogtag_order.scr (default)
// 2 = Pre-Config Scroller 2 Pages
// 3 = Pre-Config Scroller 3 Pages
level.dmzdt_scroll = 0

Feel free to post your config file if you are having problems.

Well for one some people who have cable and have pings from 10 to 50 would lag and there ping would rise to 200 or more. Everyones ping all 18 in a map would have high ping. From what i can tell it works but Ball took it off because it lagged the server down.

Wingman69 09-05-2002 08:23 PM

If u want to send it to me or let me know where i can get it ill play around w/ it on my server.

[DSB]Doggie 09-05-2002 11:54 PM

I Have it set up and will be testing it on 2 seperate servers.

216.237.145.111:12203 [DSB] West ||24/7|| Public TDM Server

And

195.38.85:167:12203 [DSB] UK ||24/7|| Public OBJ Server

At the moment they are set to not allow forced models by players. Please let me know if the settings are working, or if you experience issues so i can report the findings.

This would suck if the tags caused the svr to slow down, but what in the world would that have to do with the gameplay? Odd. . .

DogMeat 09-06-2002 08:58 AM

Wingman: Sorry I've got all the beta servers I need.

Doggie: Working fine, force models is definately being turned off from server side.

BJoe: Mostly because of the extra bandwidth usage associated with sending the updated variables I'm guessing, remember the MoHAA netcode pretty much sucks. It could be dropping gamestate packets when sending the vars out.

All: It looks like the score screen scroller may be causing ping jumps when it activates, if you run into this please turn it off by setting it to zero as shown above. Remember all this extra info will be shown on the DMz Dogtag client portion, without the extra network usage associated with updating the variables continuously.

Also I'm heading up to Rondeu Provincial Park in Canada with the wife to spend the weekend at the cottage, be back sunday night.

Blasneystein 09-06-2002 09:11 AM

DogMeat, glad to hear its in Beta. I'll be honest with you the only thing I am intrested in is the ForceModel override. Any chance that will be a seperate component, and if so, how can we get that?

Thanks.

Due to the nature of how I patch (or hook) into the existing pak files, releasing seperate fixes would not be the best way to go about things. So sorry, no individual patches.

[DSB]Doggie 09-06-2002 08:59 PM

Seems good so far. No issues on the West server.

I'm going to raise the player base over the weekend on the UK server to 36 players to see what it does when really loaded.

However i wont put it on the East server unless XGS fixes their maxrate issues 1st.

Doggie

Crow King 09-06-2002 10:09 PM

Its up on Forlorn Hope as of an hour or so ago, running at 64 players.

padman 09-07-2002 02:37 AM

Hi all

Seems fine to me as well..
Running now on both VS-UK servers, I cant really see any problems so far!
The force models fix is confusing the hell out of people who suddenly find that their glowing skins have vanished from the game LMAO!!

great work!

DogMeat 09-10-2002 06:17 PM

OK, I'm back from enjoying Canada. Looks like everything is going pretty well with the force models, however it seems like DOA had some lag issues with the scroller. Padman reported via email that he's got the scroller running and isn't seeing any lag from it. Anyone else have the scroller turned on?

Taz the Maniac 09-11-2002 05:01 AM

What does this program do ? eek:

Ow i think i know ! Can you send me please ? biggrin:

kdja 09-11-2002 06:38 AM

Can someone post a working CFG file.
I got it working once but I m only testing it in the mornings and when i uploaded it again it didnt work (may not have been the same one )

Have to say when it did work on force models it was without a doubt the sweetest mod i have seen.

Well done Dogmeat it does work just idiots like me fook it up ;p

DogMeat 09-11-2002 06:52 PM

Taz: There are a few things I need to work on for the next beta, things are going well but the mod is not really in a releasable state yet. Right now I've got enough beta testers, however I will most likely open it up for public beta in the near future, so stay tuned to this forum. ;)

kdja: Here's a copy of the default one, edit it as needed for force models. I've left scrolling on since I'm getting reports that it's not causing lag, see the msg above on how to disable it if needed. The filename is dmzdogtag_config.scr, place this is your server's MOHAA\main\global directory.

Will do Dogmeat, just wanted to use it on my next lanparty at the end of this month. biggrin:

DogMeat 09-12-2002 04:56 AM

All Beta Testers: I've noticed a few different configurations, but I'd like to get some more in-depth info.

Please post the config file you are currently using, as well as if your server is Windows or Linux. Also please describe in a sentence or two what your desired setting is I can make sure that's what your config is setup for. (for example: "I want to make sure force models is off and let the player use any skin" or "I make the players use my selected skins.")

Next I will be working on folding in my map fixes directly into the scripting for DMz Dogtag. Basically this means that you'll be able to turn on/off the map fixes via the main config file. This also means that I'll be able to stop using the default map SCR files for implementing the fixes and instead move the nessesary code over to the DMz scripts, which is a "Good Thing"(TM).

Taz: I'm sure a public beta will be out by then, although maybe not "feature complete". biggrin:

Hey dogmeat, is there an update as to the status of this lovely little tool of yours as yet?

DogMeat 09-27-2002 06:06 AM

I'm about ready to release a public beta, I've gotten my map fixes folded into the code and now I'm just adding the config settings for it. This also includes new map fixes as well as spawn kill fixes. I may be adding more features once I talk to Scorpio Midget later on today, such as forced team balance, however this shouldn't delay the beta by much if at all.

KingPhoenix 09-28-2002 09:27 AM

COOL!

I sit here eagerly awaiting hehehehe
