Enemy at the Gates
 

This is probably old fookin news to many of you. I saw a special about snipers on the History Channel today, and as it turns out the story of Vassili Zaitsev is true. I haven't seen Enemy at the Gates in quite some time, but I always thought it was just Hollywood crap. Its a good movie mind you, but I never imagined it was mostly true. The 2 or 3 day ordeal between Konig and Zaitsev was outlined on the history channel. Pretty amazing stuff. They also said he racked up 242 German kills at Stalingrad alone. Thats even more amazing. I'm not sure how the movie ended, but THC (haha potheads) said Zaitsev was with a reporter/propaganda type who stood up because he thought he saw Konig and was immediately shot. The story then went that he took off one of his gloves and attached it to a piece debris and slowly raised it up. Konig shot the glove quickly as Zaitsev watched for muzzle flash. He didn't see much, but based on instinct he looked too a large steel plate in a section of road. He kept his scope there until the sun was directly on Konig and when Konig moved his rifle a quick flash of light reflected from his scope. Zaitsev fired one round through the steel plate and into Konigs head. Pretty incredible story if you ask me. I've looked around the internet and seen several different versions, all holding the same base. So tell me those of you who are familiar with the movie, is that similar to the ending sequence of the movie? And what have you heard about Zaitsev?

In the movie the reporter dude stands up so Zietsev can see where Koing shoots from. Then something happens and they both come down and are kinda looking for each other and they end up 20 feet apart from each other but Zietsev ahs his rifle raised. Koing then gives up and Zietsev shoots him. Kinda a hollywood ending I guess.

your right i thought it was a kinda cheap hollywood ending
i would have liked it better if they did some great final snipe scene.

pretty simple ending that ties with the movie in someways...........reporter decides to commit suicide by peeking his head out so mister german sniper can shoot him he does this because he believes the girl in the movie tanya is dead and relizes he made things alot worse for the both of them he is under a steel pallet near a road and shoots the political officer but through the smoke and range away he cant see if its zietsev. after what seems like a few hours he decides to come out of the hiding spot to check his kill halfway to the body out of the corner of his eye he spots zietsev and relizes he made a critical mistake, he calmly puts his gun down and, takes off his hat, and allows zietsev to shoot him knowing he has lost the battle..................... eek: M16: thats the gist of it.......

Enemy at the Gates was just too hollywood with a love story in it. They need a better movie about the eastern front.
