Microsofts Hardware Compatibility List
 

On the list it has gefoce 2 mx 100/200 as compatible with windows xp. Besides my self I know of one other person who has problems with geforce 2 mx and Windows xp. With hardware acceleration all the way up it causes sound problems. (computer locks up and sound freezes and just makes a squealing noise) Dont sound compatible to me..

maybe, update the soundcard drivers

nope ive done all that. its almost definately direct x. disableing direct draw and direct x hardware accelerations fixes it
