Destroyed Village 2 Thread (NO Flaming Please)
okay. here is the new and improved thread for Destroyed Village 2, since the other one got bombarded with flames.
ill update the pics soon, and ill post them here for all of you to see. this one is gonna rock. w00t |
cool, i was stoked to see the thread yesterday, but got sick of all the insulting goin' on so i stopped reading it! I think redo's of old maps is great because it only improves on something that is cool already, keep up the good work, any thoughts for a truly improved algiers?
|
I think that your efforts would be better directed building new and original maps, because thats what this community needs. No matter what you say, using parts of a decompiled map is still "stealing" someone elses work. If you want to build a map based on something, build it from scratch
|
It's not stealing their work. It's just borrowing it to make it better. What's so wrong with that? I'm sure everyone has used something only to realize it could be better (and many of those people changed what they wanted). As long as people like the remakes then I say why not do them.
|
buk :
yeah i've thought about redoing Algiers, but it would be a project that would take many months. that is by far the hardest map to remake. heh surgeon : i can respect your opinion, as you have shared it before on the TMT forums. but as always, im treading on. "stealing" or not, i will continue to remake maps. making them better is not "stealing". jingles : my point exactly. you all must consider that even a simple editing (scripting) of a stock map, such as Stalingrad Unbound, is just as much "stealing" as decompiling them. its obvious the community dosen't mind my working on these maps, so i will continue to do so. thanks. |
I agree more with Surgeon!
As maps need much more time and creativity, it´s not ok to ripp them off -entirely- only to add some new rooms. Changing a script for different FX is therefore not so a problem. I really don´t want to make this thread like the old (bad) thread, but as far as I remember Stalingrad 2 wasn´t a great improvement and you should ask yourself to spend another many hours for the same mistake. I hope you can proof me the opposite Another thing: If you´re starting topics for your projects then please don´t expect only affirmitive postings ;-) So do what you want, but don´t get upset if not 100% of the MOH playing ppl like your work. If you need good comments that urgently for your work then official forums might not be the best place. Greetings Crizz Has someone already closed/deleted the old DV2 thread? Shouldn´t be on aa.com ... |
what i meant by NO Flaming in the subject line was to avoid the same results the last thread had. NO Flaming = keep it topic talk only.
thanks. |
What Mike does is no worse than making scope mods. The game comes with them one way, and you change it through editing the graphic files. He sees a map and edits it. I don't see how that's so different. I mean it's not like he makes up a new name for the map and claims that EA never made it, so what's the problem?
|
You stole the words from my mouth. Editing a simple file, such as a scope, is just as much "stealing" as editing a game map. Anyways, wouldnt you guys like to see a better version of D. Village? i know i would. heh
|
Count me in as well. I'd like a better version...one that comes with a bullet-proof vest would be nice evil: Seriously. As long as someone isn't claiming they made the map from scratch and they aren't selling it and making money, whats the diff? Sometimes the slightest alteration to a map can cause it to be played in an entirely different way...which makes it more enjoyable. I'll be looking for the release fo this one Mike!
|
thanks D.
yeah i am in no way taking credit for the map's design. the only credit i will ever take on maps like these are on the changes i myself made to the map. now, if only EA could send me the .map file. *Thinks out loud* "Yeah right. EA, send a response. lmao!" |
The beta of Stal2 was great. But the full version lagged like a mother. Good luck MPowell.
|
HA!! Why not just ask them for THEIR map making tool set! wink:

As far as I know, they used Radiant to make the maps, just like we do.
|
My 2 cents,
The way I see it you can like his maps or not. If you like it play it, if you don't like it don't play it. I myself like alot of the original maps and enjoy seeing people try to improve on them. Keep on trucking dude and lets play MOH.
