B-2S MOVE TO BRITAIN

American B-2 stealth bombers are to be stationed in Britain and on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia. The move comes in preparation for a possible attack on Iraq. The radar-evading aircraft will be deployed to the Royal Air Force base at Fairford, the British base on Diego Garcia and eventually the Pacific island of Guam. The officer in charge of the fleet confirmed the move, saying it would strengthen the hand of US Central Command boss Gen.Tommy Franks. "We will move this to a forward location so that we can cycle the aircraft as rapidly as necessary," said Col. Doug Raaberg, commander of the Whiteman Air Force, Missouri-based 509th Bomb Wing. It was unclear how many of the US' 21 B-2s would be involved in the forward deployment. They cost $1.35bn each.<<Pocket money cool: Five special climate-controlled shelters, each costing more than £1m, are to be installed at Fairford and Diego Garcia to house the bat-winged bombers The B-2 is the most advanced US long-range strike aircraft, capable of dropping 16 satellite-guided 2,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munition bombs or up to eight 5,000-pound GBU-37 earth-penetrating "bunker buster" bombs. It is capable of flying more than 6,000 miles without needing to refuel while carrying 40,000 pounds of bombs. Under standard Air Force practice, the B-2 clears the way for other US warplanes, including Boeing B-52 and the B-1B bombers which lack the B-2's "stealth" technology. |
Mmm can you feel the power of copy and paste. cool: I just love it when articles like that start slavering off a load of statistics about the subject. Im surprised they never said "An expert tells us that..." and by "expert" they mean the A-Z of modern warplanes.

Copy and Paste is indeed one of mans greatest achievements.
they're also planning on unleashing a rain of flaming battered Mars bars down on iraq. If they somehow survive that terror than just one bite of a bar will quickly clog up their arteries, thicken their blood to toothpaste and make them die a horrible death.. their diet just isn't used to it.. I've got a B2 Bomber sat outside on my lawn right now, you'd think they'd have more room than that angel: |
Just goes to show that the lapdog (blair) still has his tongue firmly up bushes arsehole if he's alowing those flying shit cans into the uk.
"america's b-2 stealth bombers" hmm should they not have "ripped off from a german ww2 design" incorperated into that as standard? biggrin: |

Or does history teach you otherwise? |
Gerard, I've heard of the germans using charcoal as an agent to absorb radar. I remember reading somewhere that there was a "flying wing" design. But, if you honestly think the B2 is a 1941 Kingsford charcoal wing, I believe you are mistaken. So what if it borrows from an earlier design? Is the AK-47 shitty because it borrowed from the German MP44?

Yes, controversy surrounds whether or not the MP44 was stollen from the AK47 or vice versa. In any event, the guns do have undeniable similarity. The mechanics and gas system are much better on the AK47. However, I believe the MP44 was first manufactured in 1942? The AK47 was designed and built shortly AFTER WW2. I don't believe Kalahsnikov stole the MP44 design, but I do think some elements were "borrowed".
PS. You're right, I dunno what a Go-229 is. If its got to do with aircraft I surely have no idea. I'm gonna google it now. |

GO-229 and the B-2. |
who cares if the b-2 is a rip off, it's still an effective bomber.
it's not like germany and america is still fighting. us can take their designs and they can take us designs, uk has us guns and us has uk guns |

Are we to assume that a dodge viper is a rip off from a world war 2 volkswagen beetle because both have 4 wheels and an engine?
