how long will a processor last?

Yo. I have 2 computers. One is running a AMD athlon 2200+ and the other a AMD athlon 2600+. How long will these beasts last before i start getting crappy results with the newest games that have yet to come out?

I would say 2 years maybe a little less.

Ya the 22 will be outdated less than a year id say(really a shame) and the 26 will last you a while longer. I got my 20 cool: and it works good, but I might be upgrading to a Radeon 9700 soon from my GeF4 Ti42. WoRd

yeah....my 2600+ is going with a radeon 9700 and a gig of DDR400....5.1 surround too.

you will love the radeon...its a BEAST.

yeah, it runs VERY smooth....i can't wait for DOOM3

I'm sure...

Those will be outdated tomorrow!!

Give me a break. First, no one has any accurate idea how long those will last. No idea at all...none...

Secondly, it's entirely subjective. You could still play a large majority of todays games on a Dell from 98 with a PII if you are willing to accept low graphics quality. You don't NEED a killer rig now, and I personally think it's remarkably futile to build a computer NOW to handle games LATER. There's a lot of people out there building PCs to handle DOOMIII...seems really dumb to me. Why not wait till the game comes out so you actually know what you'll need...

For that matter, what happens if the company goes under and the game never comes out...uh oh!
