FAST or NORMAL ?? in SPEARHEAD
I played Spearhead last night and it was an agreement with most of us playing that the game play was too fast, in the close engagements players were jumping around each other like crazy. Someone said the DEMO was on FAST?? and the full version will have a NORMAL speed. Wait a minute! I don't remember this in MOHAA although I played on a server where everone WALKED ( man did that suck). So is this right then? Is the server going to have the option of FAST and or NORMAL and going to have to list it so we know? Crip last night felt like playing UT.

My biggest complaint of AA was that the speed was too slow. And the jump function felt like you were a gimp.
The fast run kicks ass and the jump is much improved. Other than that we have AA with new skins and weapons. Whoop-tee-do. |
I don't mind the fast speed so much. It's the people jumping around like they are on pogo sticks while you are shooting at them that drive me crazy.

you try to run and jump with 50 pounds of gear. |
yea say if you choose a weapon like rifle which u can move fast with, then strafe back and forth while jumping and crouching, craziest looking thing you ever seen at that high speed, i was laughing so much, looks much wierder than leaning!!! all the people complained about leaning now there is something that looks even crazier jumping kneel strafing at high speed!!
i have to play full version b4 i make a decicsion on what speed/settings are best for spearhead, have to give several different setups a chance before i could have an idea of what i like best and what makes for best gameplay... |
I don't really like fast-mode. If I wanted to play RTcW I would, but I like the original style of MoH:AA, the not-so-fast running. Oh well we'll see what happens when the full version comes out. cool:

I was never against leaning. I just hate to see people jumping around like they just drank some Gummy Berry Juice. Now in Spearhead they jump even higher. Let me guess you like to pogo?
|
I've noticed that you can jump higher and further, but I haven't noticed any significant speed changes in the walking/running area.

ya i think its alittle unrealistic

Timing a jump perfect to get over a 6" rock should not be part of game play. EA fixed that thankfully. SH also does not allow the Q3 pogo effect. You can jump once and one time only. You have to either wait or take a step before you can jump again. The fast is fun and keeps the game moving and cuts out some of the dead time of running back to the action. Mostly, I think it is going to be your camping type player that doesnt like the fast setting. If 75% of the maps out there werent designed in such a crappy fashion, it wouldnt matter, but for some reason, people dont like to design squarish maps with dynamic spawns anymore, EA included. Anyway, I like the fast run and I also like that EA lets you filter for these things now. Other than that, its the same game. |
Yep I was one of a few who have also complained about the irregular speed at which player models seemed to move in the Demo... Well in about an hour I'll be buying MOHS, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt till then... Hahah I couldn't believe it.. they fixed the rifle so it would actually KILL with a single shot, only to turn around and make the players go twcie as fast, thus making the rifle once again useless! Grrrr!
As far as all that jumping and zig zagging about, It's done little in the past to save players me! :P Plus the fact if they pull that stunt now, you can just club them with yer rifle! The leaning crap was my pet-peeve! I hated that gay crap when people would bind their lean and strafe keys together. Thank goodness EA fixed that.... OH YEAH!! Sorry to wander off topic a bit here, but just wanted to thank the guys at EA for fixing the Team-Killing problem... Now any knob who team kills too many times gets the boot! Only drawback is the Team-Killers can just re-login... should have put a limit on the number of times a team killer could re-login before being banned (after being booted so many times for team killing) A |
Well, the new TK'er booting system works well, but it also has its disadvantages. It has the potential to kick innocent people -- me included. I was in a server the other day with FF on, and I accidentally killed 2 friendlies with a mortar round. I received the warning that if I TK'ed again, I would be booted. I was being very careful for the next 10 minutes, when I tossed a nade at a group of enemy soldiers, when I noticed a friendly rushing them. The nade went boom, and I got kicked. I reentered and appologized, but it can get quite annoying if you are trying to play fair.

Here is the answer from Gamespot on speed in Spearhead
"These gameplay tweaks include relatively minor things such as no longer being able to move while leaning. However, the most noticeable change that Spearhead makes to Allied Assault's multiplayer component is an increase in overall character movement speed. This may be to compensate for the larger maps (most of them are bigger than the biggest Allied Assault map, and Malta is the biggest and most mazelike). As it happens, Allied Assault's relatively reasonable foot speed helped it seem much more enjoyably realistic, so the speed boost is jarring and unwelcome. You can explicitly set servers to use the old, slower pace, but it'd be better if this were the default setting rather than an option ".

Many MOHAA players are playing it because it is a WAR game, not just another shooter. |
